The people person
“ The EOS 5DS captures an incredible
level of detail and delivers the large
files my clients want. The results are
incredible – I’m seeing things I’ve not
seen before.”
The way the EOS 5DS handles skin is remarkable. I recently photographed
a model with a lot of freckles, and it was pretty amazing how the camera
captured so much detail. To get this level of image resolution previously
I’d have had to use cameras that are far larger and slower. Now I can shoot
with this superb image quality but still focus quickly and shoot at 5fps.
When I’m photographing someone who’s spinning and making complex
movements, I know I can get the image I want.
In fashion we encounter regular textures and repeating patterns in
clothing and materials, and we need to be aware that moiré patterns
can appear and spoil the image. For this reason the EOS 5DS is the ideal
choice for me, since it has a low-pass filter in front of its sensor. I’ve shot
many different types of clothing and not seen any artifacts yet – the set
up works very well for me.

The story teller
“ My EOS 5D Mark III gives me
unparalleled versatility. I can be
creative in whatever conditions I
find myself in. I know it will never
let me down.”
On my travels the EOS 5D Mark III is the camera I see most often in
photographers’ bags. It’s ubiquitous, and for good reason: the fidelity of
the images files is brilliant and you can shoot in so many different types of
environment. Plus you have the ability to capture Full HD video, of course.
It’s great at high ISO settings; I shoot comfortably up to ISO 6400, and
I know people who go even further than that. You see images from EOS
5D Mark III used at huge sizes in exhibitions, and the image quality really
holds together – even when it’s shot at such high ISO sensitivities.
I visit over 20 countries every year, and the EOS 5D Mark III always comes
with me. It’s never let me down. Its construction and weather sealing make
it so reliable, and a long battery life is a bonus too. It’s not heavy,
it’s affordable and it always does the job. It ticks all the boxes for me.

The landscaper
“ The sheer amount of detail in files from
the EOS 5DS R is staggering – it has to
be seen to be believed. For the right
subjects, this is a game changer.”
I’ve used EOS 5D cameras for years. It’s comforting when you pick up
the EOS 5DS R that the controls are all where you’d want them to be
and the camera handles exactly as you’d expect. It’s when you get home
and look at the files that you see the difference: the level of detail is
absolutely incredible.
In Iceland recently I was shooting right through the EF lens range. Here we
have an incredibly high-resolution camera that can use focal lengths from
8mm to 800mm. And the low-pass cancellation filter is a bonus for me
too – it gives me that extra little bit of detail which I love. The risk of moiré
patterns is not really there when shooting landscapes, since the regular
repeating patterns that cause this are usually man made.

THE CANON
EOS 5D SERIES
Whatever you shoot,
10th Anniversary
of the EOS 5D
In August 2005 the EOS 5D brought full-frame
photography within the reach of enthusiast
photographers, and became one of the most popular
cameras of all time. The EOS 5D Mark II continued the
tradition in 2008, adding Full HD video recording to
the camera’s capabilities and changing the way the
video industry worked forever.
The EOS 5D Mark III built on these foundations.
Released in 2012 it took high performance
shooting to new heights, with ISO 25,600
sensitivity and continuous capture at 6fps.
And now in 2015, the 50.6-megapixel EOS 5DS
and EOS 5DS R extend the 5D series’s popular
design to those with more specialist needs in
portrait, fashion and landscape photography.
there’s an EOS 5D for you.
Capture more detail at 50.6-megapixel resolution.
The EOS 5DS is a great choice for those wanting
larger files but who need a low-pass filter to guard
against unwanted artifacts.
A highly capable tool for those shooting portraiture,
fashion or architectural photography.
Superb all-round performance, whatever the
conditions. Shoot 22.3-megapixel images up to
ISO 25,600 and at 6fps.
Ideal for photographers shooting a variety of
subject matter, or for those specialising in reportage
and/or wedding photography.
A specialist camera for those wanting the finest
level of resolution. The EOS 5DS R features a
50.6-megapixel sensor with the effect of the lowpass filter, seen in the EOS 5DS and EOS 5D Mark III,
cancelled. This boosts the resolution of fine details,
but some moiré patterns may be seen in parts of the
picture featuring man-made repeating textures.
For this reason the EOS 5DS R is best suited to
landscape work or photography in the studio,
where conditions can be carefully controlled to
avoid such artifacts.
