your Breville Conical Burr Grinder™
Before first use
Before first use, remove any promotional stickers or packaging material attached to your Grinder.
1. Remove the Bean Hopper, Bean Hopper
Lid and Grinds Container and wash in warm soapy water with a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Before each use, ensure Grinding Chamber and Grinds Container are clean and empty.
2. Remove the Burr Grinder inside the
Grinding Chamber by gripping the small inner black plastic frame and pulling out the top ring.
3. Using a soft cloth, wipe off any excess
protecting oil from the Burr Grinder and place it back into the Grinding Chamber.
4. Place the Bean Hopper into the Grinding
Chamber so the ‘ALIGN’ arrow on the Bean Hopper aligns with the ‘ALIGN’ arrow on top left-hand side of the Grinder. Turn the Bean Hopper clockwise to lock into position.
5. Measure the desired quantity of whole
coffee beans or spices directly into the Bean Hopper and cover with the Bean Hopper Lid.
6. Plug the Grinder into a 110/120V
power outlet.
7. To select the desired fineness of grind,
rotate the Bean Hopper and align the white marker on the front panel of the Grinder with one of the following settings:
COARSE – French Press MEDIUM – Percolator/Drip Filter FINE – Espresso
(Dual Wall Filters)
EXTRA FINE – Espresso
(Single Wall Filters)
See Coffee Chart on page 10 for additional coffee setting recommendations.
NOTE: In order to remove any excess protecting oils from the Burr Grinder, it is necessary to grind
1.75 oz (50g) of coffee beans on the Extra Fine (Espresso) setting. Discard this initial ground coffee.
NOTE: Adjust the fineness of the grind only when the grinder is in operation or when there are no beans in the hopper.
8. Rotate the Timer Selector Dial to select
the desired grinding time.
9. Press the ‘START’ button on the front of
the Grinder to begin grinding. The Coffee Grinder will begin grinding the coffee directly into the Grinds Container and will stop automatically when grinding is complete. To stop the grinding cycle at any time, push the ‘START’ button again. If the ‘START’ button is pressed again, the grinder will start from the beginning of the timed cycle.
10. Remove the plug from the power outlet.
11. Gently tap the side of the Grinder, above
the Grinds Container, so that any grinds remaining in the grinding chute are released into the Grinds Container.
12. Remove the Bean Hopper, Bean Hopper
Lid and Grinds Container and wash in warm soapy water with a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
13. Wipe the Grinding Chamber with a soft
dry cloth and replace the Bean Hopper, Bean Hopper Lid and Grinds Container back into position.
14. Rewind the power cord into the
cord storage area located under the Grinder base.

HINTS & TIPS
• Fresh grinds are the key to making coffee
with more flavor and body.
• Coffee flavor and strength is a personal
preference. Vary the type of coffee beans, amount of coffee and fineness of grind to achieve the flavor you prefer.
• Grinding times will vary depending on
amount and grind fineness.
• To ensure optimal grinding performance,
allow Coffee Grinder to cool for at least 2 minutes between uses.
• Use freshly roasted coffee beans,
preferably with a ‘roasted on’ date.
• Store coffee beans in a dark, cool and
dry place. Vacuum seal if possible.
• Buy coffee beans in small batches
to reduce the storage time and store no more than one week’s supply at any time.
• Only grind the amount of coffee you will
use for preparing coffee within the next hour. Ground coffee looses its aroma and flavor very fast and attracts other odors. For best results, grind beans immediately before brewing.

• Do not store beans in the Bean Hopper
for a prolonged period.
• When storing the Grinder, run the grinder
with an empty hopper to clear the Grind Outlet of any beans.
• Run grinder for 2 seconds before each
use for maximum freshness.
• Clean the Bean Hopper and Conical
Burrs regularly.
• The Conical Burr Grinder will not grind
food that is sticky or extremely hard ie. chocolate, cheese, whole nutmeg, candied fruits, etc.
• The Conical Burr Grinder will not make
pastes of any fruits, seeds or herbs ie. curry pastes, nut batters.
• For French Press: Please follow the
instructions of your French Press coffee maker (after pouring water over the ground coffee, stir thoroughly to prevent the ground coffee from clogging).
• Dark, oily beans: Grind dark oily beans
one or two settings coarser than medium or light brown beans. On the finest settings, it is possible that oil residue from dark, oily beans can clog the Grind Outlet.
• Clogging and Overflow: If your grinder
cannot process the water through the grounds, overflow or clogging might occur. Choose a coarser grind size setting.
ESPRESSO GRIND
• When using espresso pump machines
and automatic coffee centers - if your coffee or espresso brews too fast, try a finer grind size setting. If your coffee or espresso brews too slow, try a coarser grind size setting.
• When the grind is too fine (feels powdery
like flour and tends to clump together when compressed), there is no space between the grinds for water to pass through. Not only can this block the Dual Wall Filter, but the espresso will be over-extracted, dark and bitter.
• When the grind is too coarse (feels
like granulated sugar), water will pass through the grinds too quickly, resulting in espresso that is under-extracted and lacking flavor.
• The perfect espresso grind will produce
a layer of caramel colored crema that floats on top of the espresso following extraction. The grind should feels like fine sand. When rubbed between your fingertips it will slightly stain them while keeping its granular consistency.
WHEN THE COFFEE GRINDER
!
IS SWITCHED OFF, PARTIALLY GROUND COFFEE BEANS REMAIN BETWEEN THE GRINDING BURRS.
THE GRIND ADJUSTMENT IN THE FINE DIRECTION SHOULD ALWAYS BE MADE WITH THE COFFEE GRINDER IN OPERATION.
