Internet Fax
Internet fax converts scanned document images to e-mail format and transmits the data
over the Internet. E-mail can be received by another Internet Fax or a PC. Instead of
entering the telephone number of the destination you wish to send to you input the
relevant E-mail address.
Compliance with “ITU-T T. 37. Full Mode” you are able to receive the delivery confirmation
from the receiving fax. The delivery confirmation has the spec of the fax such as paper
size, resolution, and compression method. This data will be automatically registered in the
address book and will be used next time the fax is sent.

DSm415 Product Information Guide
Wireless LAN Interface (Option) IEEE802.11b
With this interface the DSm415 can be connected to wireless network environment The
optional interface is installed and enables users to communicate to PCs that have wireless
interface cards.
Note: Ethernet (100Base-TX/10Base-T) and Wireless LAN cannot be used at the same
time. It must be manually selected to use either of them.
Data transmission speedAuto (11Mbps, 5.5Mbps, 2M bps, 1Mbps)
Manually selectable to 11Mbps/ 5.5Mbps/ 2Mbps/ 1Mbps fixed
ProtocolTCP/IP
FrequencyFrom 2,400 MHz to 2,497MHz
ChannelUS model … 1-11 ch.
EU model … 1-13 ch
Type of connections (*1)Ad hoc mode, Infrastructure mode
Distance between devices11 Mbps: 140 m, 5.5 Mbps: 200 m, 2 Mbps: 270 m,
1 Mbps: 400 m
The above is the max distance when using in the open air, and these
depend on office environment.
WEP (Encryption) Setting (*2)64 bit (10 digits) /128 bit (26 digits)
(*1) Type of connections
Ad hoc Mode
Infrastructure Mode
Please refer to the following for the details.
(*2) WEP: Wired Equivalent Privacy
WEP is an encryption method that protects wireless data communication. Both devices
that send and receive data through wireless communication need to have the same WEP
Key when communicating to the other device.
Type of connections
(1) Ad hoc mode communicates between each wireless client
NOTE: Adhoc mode connection does NOT support the communication with Novell
NetWare Server because NetWare does not support wireless LAN interface.
NOTE: 2 types of Ad hoc mode are selectable, one is “Ad hoc mode” and the other is
“802.11b ad hoc mode”. The former mode uses only channel setting and the latter uses
channel setting and SSID (SSID stands for Service Set ID, and only the devices, which
has same SSID can communicate each other through wireless network.

Supported application through Wireless LAN Interface
The Wireless LAN interface provides same functions as NIB’s, and can be used for
printing and scanning.
IEEE 1394 Interface (Option)
Two function (type of connection) are available, “SCSI print” and “IP over 1394”.
