Inserting Batteries

Remove the battery compartment cover
on the bottom of the instrument and
insert six 1.5V SUM-2 (AM-2), R-14(RL-

14), "C" size or equivalent batteries (sold
separately), making sure that the
polarities are place as directed on the side
of the compartment. Replace the cover,
ensuring that it locks securely in place.

Attention:

Before starting to play, please remove the
protective film covering the LED indication
panel.

using your stereo system.

Einlegen der Batterien

Entfernen Sie den Batteriefachdeckel am
Boden des Instruments, und legen Sie
sechs Batterien (nicht mitgeliefert) des
Typs 1,5 V R-14 (LR-14) Größe "C" oder
gleichwertige Batterien ein. Achten Sie
dabei auf die korrekte Ausrichtung der
Plus- und Minuspole wie im Inneren des
Batteriefachs angezeigt. Setzen Sie dann
den Batteriefachdeckel so wieder an, daß
dieser sicher einrastet.

Achtung:

Entfernen Sie vor dem Spielen den
Schutzfilm auf dem LED-Anzeigefeld.

Optionaler Netzadapter

Haushaltsstrom: Der Netzadapter PA­3/PA-4/PA-40 dient für den Heimbetrieb

des Instruments. Andere Adaptertypen
sind nicht verwendbar. Achten Sie deshalb
beim Kauf eines Netzadapters unbedingt
darauf, daß es sich um das richtige Modell
handelt.

Für noch größere Klangfülle

Obwohl Sie der Klang aus dem
eingebauten Lautsprecher wahrscheinlich
vollauf zufriedenstellt, läßt sich die
Klangfülle durch den Anschluß eines
größeren Lautsprechers an das VSS-200
noch zusätzlich steigern. Versuchen Sie es
einmal mit Ihrer Stereoanlage.

Mise en place des piles

Adaptateurs d’alimentation disponibles en option

Courant secteur: L’adaptateur
d’alimentation PA-3/PA-4/PA-40 est
disponible pour faire fonctionner l’appareil
sur le courant secteur. Comme aucun
autre adaptateur n’est utilisable avec le
VSS-200, s’assurer, lors de l’achat de
l’adaptateur, que le modèle correspond à
ceux mentionnés ci-dessus.

Obtention d’un son encore plus puissant

Bien que le son en provenance des haut­parleurs incorporés soit plus que
satisfaisant, il est possible d’obtenir un son
plus puissant si l’on raccorde le
PortaSound à un système d’enceintes
acoustiques de grande taille. Essayer
d’utiliser les enceintes acoustiques d’une
cha%ne stéréo.

Adaptadores de alimentación
opcionales

Corriente de la red: Para la corriente de la
red está disponible el adaptador de
alimentación PA3/PA4/PA40. No es
posible emplear otro adaptador, por lo
tanto, cuando adquiera uno, cerciórese de
que sea el modelo correcto.

Para conseguir un sonido todavía
más potente

Aunque estará satisfecho con el sonido
procedente de los altavoces incorporados,
podrá obtener un sonido todavía más
satisfactorio si conecte el SHS-200 a
altavoces mayores. Pruebe a emplear su
sistema estéreo.

The VSS-200 is programmed with
demonstration music. To hear this music,
do the following.

1. Switch On

Slide the POWER switch Qto the "ON"
position.

2. Adjust The Volume

Slide the VOLUME control (D about three­quarters of the way toward MAX. to set
the volume level.

SINGLE FINGER AUTO BASS CHORD

This easy auto-accompaniment feature
lets you produce chord accompaniment
without actually having to play chords. A
single finger lets you create any major
chord, while two or three fingers are used
to create minor, seventh, and minor­seventh chords — but you don't need to
use the actual chord fingerings.

1. Select the desired accompaniment
style.

If you want the VSS-200 to produce only
a rhythm pattern and bass line for
accompaniment—letting you play the
chords yourself—begin by pressing the
AUTO BASS selector ©, then the
START/STOP selector 0. You play the
chords, and the VSS-200 will accompany
you will an ideal bass line and rhythm
pattern. In this mode, you can play up to
five notes simultaneously on the VSS-200
keyboard. Any voice can be selected for
playing chords.

The VOICE SAMPLER lets you take a
"sample" of just about any sound you
wish with the VSS-2(X)'S microphone.
Capture the sound of natural instruments,
or anything from people's voices to animal
sounds, motor vehicles and so on, then
use that sample as a sound source for
your keyboard performance. You can also
process the sampled sound with the
VOICE EDIT functions, which work like a
synthesizer.

Three Sampling Methods:
MICROPHONE, SAMPLE-IN AND
FROM VOICE BANK

• Use the MICROPHONE which is
located on the top of the instrument

and can be easily released from its

mounting, when you want to sample

the sound of something in your

immediate vicinity, like a person's

voice, the twittering of a bird or the
bark of a dog, the tapping of a finger
against a pane of glass—whatever you

like.

• Use the FROM VOICE BANK method to

process any of the VSS-200's 100
voices.

• Use the SAMPLE-IN method when you

want to sample the sound of a
person's voice from you television set
or radio, or the sound of music from a
record or tape player, etc. With this
method, you will need the optional
connecting cable. Plug the connecting
cable into the SAMPLE-IN jack on the

To Sample A Sound

After choosing the sound you want to

press the SAMPLE selector (§). The

VSS-200 will subsequently sound a

"beep", then sample the desired
sound. After the sound is sampled, the
VSS-200 will play it back automatically
for confirmation and "SP" will be
shown on the LED indicator for 2
seconds approx. During this time, no
voice will sound when the keys are
pressed {the same applies for
subsequently described sampling

methods).

• Press the OVER WRITE selector @
after a sound has been sampled and
you can obtain a "sound on sound"
effect by adding another sample to the

voice you already sampled.

• Press the FROM VOICE BANK selector

@ to sample voice from the VSS-200's
preset voices and the keyboard can
then process the voices.When you
press this selector the voice which had
been selected will sample
automatically after a "beep” sound.
And then the sampled voice will be
sound automatically for confirmation
and "SP" will be shown on the LED

indicator.

Sampling time and key assignment

Sampling time is about 1.9 seconds and
the sampled voice will be assigned to Cd
key. Thus applies to all sampling methods
except FROM VOICE BANK sampling.

• Si l’on appuie sur le sélecteur OVER

WRITE (^ lorsque l’échantillonnage est
terminé, on obtient un effet de sons
“superposés”, car on vient d’ajouter un
autre échantillon de la voix qui vient
d’être échantillonnée.

• Pour prélever un échantillon parmi les

voix du VSS-200, appuyer sur le
sélecteur FROM VOICE BANK (g) et
traîter les voix par le clavier. Lorsqu’on
appuie sur ce sélecteur, la voix
sélectionnée est automatiquement

3. After pressing SAMPLE and/or OVER WRITE,

the condition of the instrument will be "waiting for

sampling". At this time the instrument will not function
normally.

Your protaSound will remain in excellent
playing condition if care is taken
concerning the following.

1. When you use AC power or a car
battery, be sure to use the optional PA­3/PA-4/PA-40, adaptors.
Before use, read the adaptor

instructions carefully.

2. Connections made between the VSS­200 and any other device should be

made with both units turned off.

3. Do not set the VOLUME at MAX when
you connect the VSS-200 to a stereo
system. Use the stereo system's
volume control to adjust the sound
level.

4. Avoid placing the instrument in
excessively humid areas.

5. Do not subject the unit to physical
shock, and avoid placing anything
heavy on it.

6. Do not place the instrument near any
heating appliance, or leave it inside a
car in direct sunlight for any length of
time. Direct sunshine can raise the
interior temperature of a car with
closed doors and windows to as high
as SOX {176°F). Temperatures in
excess of 60°C (140°F) can cause
physical and or electrical damage not
covered by warranty.

7. Use a dry or damp cloth for cleaning.
