Antes de comenzar a tocar

Inserting Batteries

Remove the battery compartment
cover on the bottom of the instrument
and insert six 1.5V SUM-2, “C” size,
or equivalent alkaline batteries (sold
separately), making sure that the
polarities are placed as directed inside
the compartment. Replace the cover,
ensuring that it locks securely in place.

Optional power adaptors

Household current: Power Adaptor
PA-1 or PA-4 is available for household
current. No other adaptor is usable, so
when you purchase a power adaptor
please ensure that it is model PA-1
or PA-4.
Car Battery: Car Battery Adaptor CA-1
plugs into a car cigarette lighter socket.

For An Even Bigger Sound

Although you’ll be happy with the
sound from the built-in speaker, you
can get an even more satisfying sound
if you connect the PortaSound to
a bigger speaker. Try using your stereo
system (see page 12).

Einlegen der Batterien

Nehmen Sie den Batteriefachdeckel an
der Unterseite des Instrumentes ab und
legen Sie sechs l,5-V->l//:ff//-BabyzeIlen
(nicht mitgeliefert) unter Beachtung der
im Batteriefach angegebenen Polarität ein.
Danach schließen Sie den Deckel wieder.

Als Sonderzubehör erhältliche
Adapter

Für Netzbetrieb: Verwenden Sie stets
nur den im Handel erhältlichen Netz
adapter PA-1 oder PA-4.

Betrieb an Autobatterie: Hierzu ist der
Batterieadapter CA-1 erforderlich. Er
kann direkt an die Zigarettenanzünder
buchse des Wagens angeschlossen werden.

So klingt das Instrument noch besser...

Der eingebaute hochqualitative Laut
sprecher garantiert bereits eine erstklassige
Klangreproduktion. Für ein noch
überwältigenderes Klangerlebnis kann ein
größerer Außenlautsprecher oder eine
Stereo-Anlage angeschlossen werden,

(Siehe hierzu auch Seite 12).

Mise en place des piles

Enlevez le couvercle du logement des
piles, situé sur le socle de l’appareil
et insérez six piles SUM-2 de 1,5V,
de format C, ou des piles alcalines
équivalentes (non fournies), en ayant
soin de respecter les polarités indi
quées dans ie logement. Replacez le
couvercle en s’assurant qu’il se
verrouille bien en place.

Adaptateurs d’alimentation
disponibles en option

Courant secteur: Adaptateur d’ali
mentation secteur PA-1 ou PA-4.Comme

il est impossible d’utiliser un autre type
d’adaptateur, assurez-vous que c’est
bien un PA-1 ou PA-4 que vous achetez.

Batterie de voiture: Branchez la fiche

The PSS-160 is programmed with
a demonstration music piece,
“Camptown Races”. To hear this
music, do the following.

1. Switch On

Slide the POWER switch © to the

“ON” position. The power-on light will
illuminate.

• If you forget to turn off the power
when you’ve finished using the

keyboard, a switch-off alarm warns

you after about two minutes,
thus preventing battery wastage.

You can choose any of ten voices by
sliding TONE SELECT ® in the
ORCHESTRA section. Adjust the
voiume using the MASTER VOLUME

Pick the rhythm that best suits the
music you’re going to play and slide
RHYTHM SELECT® to the appro
priate position.

2. Start the rhythm

After selecting a rhythm, press the
START/STOP selector®.

• Use the SYNCHRO START selector
@ if you want the rhythm to begin

from the moment you first press
a key. The 14 keys (up to Fit2)
beginning at the left of the keyboard
will activate the rhythm sounds.

lets you adjust the rhythm volume
in relation to the melody volume.

You can add a one-bar fill-in effect any
time you like while a rhythm is playing
by pressing the FILL IN selector.

an automatic accompaniment feature.

1. Press the ON/OFF selector in

the AUTO BASS CHORD section

The ON light will then illuminate.

Auto Bass Chord key section can
then be used for playing chords with
only one finger.

You’ll get a lot of fun out of your
PortaSound with the Melody Memory
feature, which functions like a mini
recording studio.

1. Recording your melody

To record a melody, first press the

RECORD/STOP selector @ in the
MELODY MEMORY section. The
Tempo lamp and Melody Memory
indication lamp will simultaneously
flash in time with the tempo. Adjust
the tempo as you wish, then play the
music. When you’ve finished, press
the RECORD/STOP selector again.

taken concerning the following.

1. When you use AC power or a car
battery, be sure to use the optional
PortaSound adaptors. Before use,
read the adaptor instructions
carefully.

2. The optional car battery adaptor

is only for use with a negative
ground 12V battery. Ensure that

this is the case before connecting

the adaptor.

3. Connections made between the
PortaSound and any other device
should be made with both units
turned off.

4. Do not set the MASTER VOLUME
at MAX when you connect the
PortaSound to a stereo system.
Use the stereo system’s volume
control to adjust the sound level.

5. Avoid placing the instrument in
excessively humid areas.

6. Do not subject the unit to physical
shock, and avoid placing an^hing
heavy on it.

7. The PortaSound should not be
placed in direct sunlight for a
