Electrical Inf ormation Warning - Electrical Safety Informa tion 1. The power receptacle f or the machine must meet the requirements stated on the data plate
on the rear of the machine. If you are not sure that your electrical supply meets the
requirements, please consult your local power company or an electrician for advice.
2. The socket outlet shal l be installed near the equipment and s hall be easily accessible.
3. Use the power cable that is supplied with your machine. Do not use an extension cord or
remove or modify the pow er cord plug.
4. Plug the power cable directly into a correctly grounded electrical outlet. If you are not sure
whether or not an outlet is correctly grounded, consult an electrician.
5. Do not use an adapter to connect any Xerox
®
equipment to an electrical outlet that lacks a
ground connection terminal.
6. Do not place this equipment where people might step or trip on the power cable.
7. Do not place objects on the power cable.
8. Do not override or disable electrical or mechanical interlock devices.
9. Do not push objects into slots or openings on the machine. Electrical shock or fire may re sult.

WARNING: This equipment must be connected to a protecti ve earth circuit
This equipment is supplied with a plug that has a protectiv e earth pin. This plug will only fit into
an earth ed elect rical ou tlet. Th is is a s afety feature. If you are unab le to in sert the plug int o the
outlet, contact your electrician to replace the outlet.
Disconnect Device The power cable is the disconnect device f or this equipment. It is attached to the side of the
machine as a plug-in device. T o remove all electrical power f rom the equipment, disconnect the
power cable(s) from the electric al outlet.
Emergency Pow er Off If any of the fo llowing conditions occur, turn off the machine immediately and disconnect the
power cable(s) from the electric al outlet(s).
• The equipment emits unusual odors or makes unusual noises.
• The power cable is damaged or fr ayed.
• A wall panel circuit break e r, fuse, or other sa fet y device has been tripped.
• Liquid is spilled into the machine.
• The machine is exposed to water.
• Any part of the machine is damaged.
Maintenance Inf ormation 1. Any operator product maintenance procedures will be described in the user document ation
supplied with the product.
2. Do not carry out any maintenance on this product which is not described in the customer
documentation.
3. Do not use aerosol cleaners. The use of cleaners that are not approved may cause poor
performance of the equipment , and could cause a dangerous condition.
4. Use supplies and cleaning materials only as directed in this manual.

interf ace . The file contains layouts f or various ISO and U.S. paper sizes. The TWAIN scanning
chapter contains instructions on using these sheets while scanning.

• File separation sheets —automaticall y separate a st ack of paper into two or more separate
files, when scanning using the TWAIN interf ace.

• Patc h c od e s he et s —use with an application that supports det ection of patch code data
when using the TWAIN interf ace. The patch code page layouts hav e been specifically
designed for your scanner. The f ile contains Patch 2, 3 and T layouts for A4 and U.S. L etter size
pages.
Make sure you print the c orrect page size f or the paper in your printer. Also, make sure the
application you are using is not set to automatically scale the pag e to fit on the paper in your
printer.

1. Input Tr ay—Holds the documents in the Automatic Document Feeder f or scanning.
2. Pap er G ui de s —Slide to adjust to docume nt width.
3. Paper Guide Sw itch—Move the switch to change the input tray paper guides from
synchronized adjustment to individual adjustment.
4. ADF Cover R elease—Pull to open the Automatic Document Feeder.
5. Manual feed selector swit ch—Adjusts the rollers and input tray from continuous automatic
document feeding to manual document f eeding.
6. Exit tray —Where the documents are exited out of the scanner. Flip up an exit stopper to
keep documents in the exit tray. Exit extension pulls out to support various document lengths.

7. Control panel —Scanner hardware controls.
– Powe r sw it ch —T urns the scanner’s power on or off.
– Status light — The status light indicates the current state of the scanner.
– LCD screen —Shows the current scan settings.
– Function buttons —Selects the scan setting for the One T ouch buttons. Press left/right to
select groups and up/down to select jobs.
When Group 9 is selected, scrolling to Group 10 will display Scanner Inf ormation such as
firmware and software ver sions.
While viewing the Scanner Information, pressing the right cursor button again will allow
you to launch the User Utility by pressing OK.
– Skip button—After a double feed or f olded corner is detected and scanning has been
paused, pressing this button will cause the document to be scanned and released bef ore
the job continues.
– Error light —After an error is detected, the light will be activated.
– Start/Stop button —Press to start sc anning. Pressing the button while scanning is in
progress stops the scan. Pressing the button while a double feed or f olded corner has
been detected and paused will cause the document to be ejected without being scanned
and cancel the job.

3. Scanner Setup Unpack the Scanner Use care when unpacking, moving and assembling the scanner. F ollow these instructions to
prevent injury and damage to the scanner.
1. Remove the scanner f rom the shipping box, verify all parts listed on page 2-1 are in the box.
We recommend that you keep the original packing materials in case you need them later.
2. Always have at least two people carry the scanner, lifting the scanner up f rom underneath.
3. Use a desk or table that can support the weight of the scanner. Do not place the scanner on a
cloth covered surf ace.

4. Place the scanner on a level surface near the computer.
Keep at least 10 inches of space on every side of the scanner f or the input and exit tray
extensions, performing maint enance, and to have sufficient air flow f or ventilation.
5. Remove all ship ping tape from the top and side of the scanner.

Install the Separation roller 1. Pull on the scanner cover release and lift the lid to open the scanner.
2. Flip open the double f eed prevention roller cover.
3. Align the plastic gear end on the right side of the roller with the gears in the roller
compartment. Make sure the flat side of the roller tip is aligned prope rly with the slot in the
scanner.
Carefully insert the gear end into the scanner and angle the roller down into the left side of
the compartment.

4. Press gently on the metal bar on the left side to lock the roller in place with the black t ab in the
compartment.
5. Press gently on the compartment cover to lock in the scanner. Make sure this cover is f ully
closed as it may break and cause damage to the scanner if it is not properly in place.
6. Close the scanner when you are finished.

4. Installation Please make sure of the f ollowing before you begin installation:
• If you are prompted to reboot during ins tallation, please select “No”. Fi nish installing the rest
of the software, then close all open windows and reboot your computer.
• The information in this guide may cover software not provided with the scanner you
purchased. Please disregard any information about the software not appl icable to your
scanner.
• If your computer has AntiVirus or An tiSpyware software running, you may encounter alerts or
messages during installation asking you to allow the inst a llation to proceed. Although the
message s will di ffer based on t he softwa re your c omputer is runni ng, in ea ch case yo u shoul d
allow the installation to proceed if that option is available. Alternativ ely, you can turn off the
AntiVirus or AntiSpyware software before installing your scanner, but if you do, make sure to
turn it back on again when installation is finished.
• If your computer is running Windows 7 or later, you may see the Windows User Account
Control screen asking you to conf irm system changes. Click the Y es button to allow the
installation to proceed.

Install the Software and Connect the Scanner 1. Start Microsoft Windows and make sure that no other applications are runnin g.
2. Insert the installation disc into your computer’s D VD-ROM drive.
The disc automatically starts.
3. The Select Language window opens. Click the drop-down menu arrow and select the
language to use. Click OK.
The disc’s Main menu window opens.
Note: If the disc does not start, check the f ol lowing:
– Make sure the disc drives door is completely shut.
– Make sure the disc was inserted in t he drive in the proper direction (label side up).

– Open the Windows options for your computer’s disc drives.
– Double-click the icon for your D VD-ROM drive.
– The Installation menu for the disc should now open.
If the menu does not open:
– From the list of files on the di sc, double-click the file named setup.exe.
