WARNING Before setup, inspect all equipment for any signs of damage, cracks, improper mechanical
function, exposed wires or bent connectors. Replace any damaged equipment.
WARNING Do not install the Mobile Acuity LT System within 1000 feet of another Acuity System that
has the same wireless network name (ESSID). The network name is on the label of the system transport
case. If two systems with the same network name are located in close proximity, wireless monitors could
connect to either system, resulting in possible confusion about patient monitoring and patient care.
WARNING Position access points at least two feet away from where people are frequently located.
Close installation could result in exposure to levels of radio frequency energy that are higher than
recommended by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
WARNING Do not attempt to operate the Mobile Acuity LT Central Monitoring System or Micropaq or
Propaq monitors without consulting the Directions For Use for those devices.
WARNING Do not mute or turn off the Mobile Acuity LT System laptop computer speakers. Reducing
the volume could result in failure to notice life threatening audible alarms on the system.
Caution
Caution For uninterrupted network communication, connect the wireless controller to an
uninterruptible power supply (UPS). A UPS lessens the risk of network exposure to electrical power
disturbances. Network power disturbances can cause patient monitors to disconnect from the Mobile
Acuity LT System.
Notes
If a wireless patient monitor operates outside of its wireless communication area, the monitor
aggressively searches for connection with the central station and depletes its battery life at a faster rate.
If it searches for an extended period of time (typically more than four hours), it can display a system fault
error that necessitates turning the monitor off and on again.
Use only patient monitors that include on their back labels. Patient monitors without this
symbol are incompatible with this Mobile Acuity LT System wireless network, and they will not connect
to this system.
Place extra Micropaq monitor batteries in the Micropaq monitor battery charger so that they are ready for
use when needed. Full charge occurs within four hours at room temperature. Recharge Micropaq monitor
batteries at least annually to ensure that they are at least partially charged.
Use a reliable AC power source to help prevent interruption in patient monitoring.

Waveform Window for each patient monitor.
c. Click the ID icon in the Enter or Confirm
Patient ID Waveform Window.
• Propaq LT monitor power adapter and
cradle
• Propaq CS monitor power adapters
b. Wait five minutes. On the front and left side
of each AP, confirm that the first three LED
lights are on continuously.
c. Confirm that the Mobile Acuity LT System
display shows a window similar to the
following, and verify that a Check Wireless
message is not displayed.

Troubleshooting
If the following suggestions do not solve a
problem, please contact the Welch Allyn
Technical Support department.
SymptomPossible Cause and Suggested Response
There is no
display on the
Mobile Acuity
LT System
screen.
A Check
Wireless
message
appears on
the Mobile
Acuity LT
System
screen.
OR
Patient
monitors
drop out in
particular
locations in
the facility.
Proceed through these steps, as necessary.
1. Check power connections to the laptop
computer.
2. Ensure that the laptop computer power
switch is in the on position.
3. Shut down and restart the entire system.
For instructions, see “5. Shut down and
remove power”.
• There are wireless connectivity problems.
Proceed through these steps, as necessary.
1. Ensure that the wireless controller is
connected to AC power.
2. Ensure that the AP data cables are firmly
connected to access points and the
wireless controller.
3. Ensure that the AP antennae are
oriented vertically.
4. On the front and left side of each AP,
confirm that the first three LED lights are
on continuously.
5. Turn off and on again the wireless
controller.
• Particular obstructions can block wireless
communication, or a patient monitor can be
beyond the range of an AP.
Typical obstructions include large metal
objects, such as cabinets, vehicles or
metal-reinforced walls, or large
concentrations of water (such as water
storage containers).
1. Mount the APs in a higher location so
that they have an unobstructed
“line-of-sight” path to each patient
monitor.
2. Move patient monitors closer to access
points.
SymptomPossible Cause and Suggested Response
A patient
monitor does
not connect
to the Mobile
Acuity LT
System.
Proceed through these steps, as necessary.
1. Check the monitor’s back
label for this symbol, which
indicates that the patient
monitor contains the proper
radio card. If a patient monitor
does not include this symbol, it is
incompatible with this Mobile Acuity LT
System wireless network.
2. If a Propaq LT monitor does not display the
wireless connection icon (either or ),
the monitor might be configured so that
the wireless connection is disabled (the
radio card is off). Refer to the Propaq LT Monitor Directions For Use for information
about enabling it.
3. Ensure that each patient monitor is within
40 feet of an access point. If the monitor is
not communicating with an access point,
appears on the monitor.
4. Proceed through the steps in the prior row
of this table to ensure that the access
points are functional.
5. The patient monitor might not be
configured with the wireless network
name (ESSID) for the Mobile Acuity LT
System.
a. On the laptop computer, find the label
indicating the network name for the
Mobile Acuity LT System (similar to
“com8.protocol”).
b. Check the patient monitor network
name, and confirm that it matches the
laptop computer network name.
Change it if necessary. For instructions,
see “Identify or change a monitor’s
network name (ESSID)”.
c. Retest wireless communication with
the patient monitor.
6. If any nearby Acuity System has the same
wireless network name (ESSID), the
patient monitor might be connected to the
other system.
a. If you suspect that another nearby
Acuity System has the same network
name, immediately notify the system
administrator about the problem. The
Mobile Acuity LT System must be moved to a different location where
there is no conflict in monitoring.
b. Notify staff members. Make appropriate
changes in patient care for discontinued
monitoring.
c. Follow appropriate procedures to shut
down your Mobile Acuity LT System and
remove power. For instructions, see “5.
Shut down and remove power”.
For more information about troubleshooting a
patient monitor, refer to the monitor Directions
for Use.

Identify or change a monitor’s
Note
network name (ESSID)
Identify or change a Micropaq monitor
network name
This section describes how to identify or change
the extended service set identifier (ESSID) for
each type of wireless patient monitor that can
connect to an Acuity System wireless local area
network (WLAN).
This information is useful if you want to do
these things:
•Set up a Mobile Acuity LT System network.
•Move a patient monitor from one Acuity
System network to another.
•Add a patient monitor to an Acuity System
network.
•Especially among networked Acuity
Systems, verify a monitor’s ESSID.
An Acuity System’s network name appears on a
label in these places:
•For a Mobile Acuity LT System: on the
system case
•For an Acuity System: on the CPU
Changing a monitor’s network name causes the
monitor to restart, erase all patient data and
restore the monitor settings to default settings.
WARNING Do not attempt to change a
monitor’s network name unless you are a
qualified biomedical service engineer or
technician.
Confirm that the network name that you select
matches the network name of the appropriate
Acuity System. When you select a new ESSID,
the patient monitor seeks a connection with any
nearby Acuity System network with that same
ESSID.
If you select a wrong network name, patient
alarms and data for any patient connected to the
monitor would occur at an unexpected Acuity
Central Station.
