OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
TO ATTACH TO POWER SOURCE
Align cutouts in the StrabismoScope base with lugs on power source, push in slightly and turn 90°. The StrabismoScope is now ready to use. To remove, reverse this procedure.
Press down on red button of handle while turning the black dial to the end to increase light intensity.

CLEANING AND LAMP REPLACEMENT
CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
All external surfaces of the StrabismoScope can be cleaned by using a damp alcohol wipe. To clean the glass, use either an alcohol wipe, or a glass cleaner such as Windex. Do not use abrasive materials on the glass surfaces.
CAUTION:
The StrabismoScope cannot be sterilized by gas or steam autoclave, or by soaking in disinfecting solutions. To insure proper operation, all service (with the exception of lamp replacement and cleaning) should be performed by Welch Allyn.

LAMP REPLACEMENT

Be sure lamp is cool before removing. If the instrument has been in use, it should sit for five minutes before changing the lamp.

To change the lamp, remove the StrabismoScope from its power source. Remove the lamp from the base of the instrument by prying out with fingernail, nail file, or other instrument.
Taking care not to touch the glass surface, replace lamp by inserting lamp into base of instrument so that the lamp “key” drops into either slot. (Push lamp in until firmly sealed.)
Replacement lamp is a Welch Allyn No. 03000 Halogen Lamp.

Instructions for use of the StrabismoScope Unidirectional Occluder
Before You Start
• Dim the room lights slightly.
• Direct the patient’s attention to an accommodative target (small toy or wall chart).
• The patient side of the instrument (white) should be positioned close to the patient’s eye.
I. Turn the StrabismoScope on and place
it over the Right Eye. Watch both the uncovered and covered eyes.
The Right Eye The Left Eye (covered) moves. does not move.
Remove StrabismoScope. Watch both eyes.
Eyes return to initial position, then
Right Eye Dominant Strabismus.
Eyes do not return to initial position, then

IF:
Neither eye is moving.
Proceed to Section II.
IF:
A Phoria Exists.
Proceed to Section II.
IF:
Both eyes move.
A Tropia Exists.
IF:
OR
Alternate Strabismus. Proceed to Section II.
II. Turn the StrabismoScope on and place
it over the Left Eye. Watch both the uncovered and covered eyes.
The Right Eye The Left Eye does not move. (covered) moves.
Remove StrabismoScope. Watch both eyes.
Eyes return to initial position, then
Left Eye Dominant Strabismus.
Eyes do not return to initial position, then
IF a phoria is diagnosed, referral to a specialist is indicated if the phoria is large or vertical and the patient is experiencing headaches or vision problems. Many patients have small phorias and these may be no cause for concern, if other symptoms are not present. IF a tropia is diagnosed, the patient should be referred to a specialist for a thorough evaluation.
IF:
Neither eye is moving.
No Stabismus.
IF:
A Phoria Exists.
Proceed to Section III.
IF:
Both eyes move.
A Tropia Exists.
IF:
OR
Alternate Strabismus.
Proceed to Section IV.

III. Confirming Phoria If Diagnosed
(or Suspected):
1. Cover one eye with the StrabismoScope turned on. Watch for the covered eye to move.
2. Remove the StrabismoScope. Watch for the eye to return to its initial position. Repeat over the other eye.
IV. Confirming Tropia If Diagnosed
(or Suspected):
1. Cover the dominant eye with the StrabismoScope turned on. Both eyes should move.
2. Remove the StrabismoScope. a. Eyes will return to original position
(if dominant eye was covered)
b. Eyes will remain in the same
position (if alternate strabismus is present)
HELPFUL HINTS
1. Be aware of small or “flick” movements of the eye. Small amounts of strabismus are sometimes difficult to see, but these too, often lead to amblyopia. Movements can being either a horizontal or vertical direction.
2. Children’s attention spans tend to be brief. Vary the toys and targets that are used.
3. If possible, perform this test with the patient focusing at both near and distant targets.

Aligner les découpes de la base du StrabismoScope sur les ergots de la source d’alimentation. Appuyer légèrement et tourner de 90°. Le StrabismoScope est désormais prêt à l’emploi. Pour le retirer, procéder inversement.
Appuyer sur le bouton rouge du manche tout en tournant le cadran noir à fond pour augmenter l’intensité lumineuse.

NETTOY AGE ET REMPLACE­MENT DE LA LAMPE
NETTOYAGE RECOMMANDE
Toutes les surfaces externes du StrabismoScope peuvent se nettoyer à l’aide d’un tampon humecté d’alcool. Pour nettoyer le verre, utiliser un tampon d’alcool ou un nettoyant pour vitres tel que du Windex. Ne pas utiliser de matériaux abrasifs sur les surfaces en verre.
ATTENTION :
Le StrabismoScope ne peut pas être stérilisé au gaz, à l’autoclave à la vapeur ou par trempage dans des solutions désinfectantes. Pour garantir un fonctionnement correct, confier toutes les réparations à Welch Allyn (à l’exception du remplacement de la lampe et du nettoyage).
REMPLACEMENT DE LA LAMPE
S’assurer que la lampe est froide avant de la retirer. Si l’instrument a été utilisé, le laisser reposer cinq minutes avant de changer la lampe.

Pour changer la lampe, retirer le StrabismoScope de sa source d’alimentation. Retirer la lampe de la base de l’instrument en appliquant un mouvement de levier à l’aide d’un ongle, d’une lime à ongles ou d’un autre instrument.
En veillant à ne pas toucher la surface en verre, remplacer la lampe en l’insérant dans la base de l’instrument de manière à ce que l’ergot de la lampe rentre dans l’une ou l’autre fente. (Enfoncer la lampe jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit solidement fixée.)
La lampe de rechange est une lampe à halogène Welch Allyn nº 03000.
Pour une performance garantie, utiliser uniquement des lampes Welch Allyn authentiques.
