INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the VTech® My First Words.
My First Words is an interactive toy that’s full of fun! Little ones will be introduced to first words in a fun and engaging way. With 2 modes of play, your child will learn animals, shapes, colors, sounds and more as they push the buttons and move the manipulative features. Simple questions encourage interaction and learning while the flashing star and fun phrases reward and entertain. Cheerful melodies and cute song add to the enjoyment as little ones play and learn with their favorite bear!

WARNING: All packing materials, such as tape, plastic sheets, wire ties
and tags are not part of this toy, and should be discarded for your child’s safety.
BATTERY INSTALLATION
1. Make sure the unit is turned OFF.
2. Locate the battery cover at the back of the unit. Use a screwdriver or coin to loosen the screw.
3. Install 2 new ’AA’ (UM3/LR6) batteries following the diagram inside the battery box.
4. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure.
BATTERY NOTICE
The use of new alkaline batteries is recommended for maximum performance.
Install batteries correctly observing the polarity (+, -) signs to avoid leakage.
Battery Installation
Do not mix old and new batteries.
Do not mix batteries of different types: alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium).
Remove the batteries from the equipment when the unit will not be used for an extended period of time.

Always remove exhausted batteries from the equipment.
Off
Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
Do not attempt to recharge ordinary batteries.
The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
Only batteries of the same and equivalent type as recommended are to be used.

To turn the unit ON, slide the OFF/
LEARNING MODE/ MUSIC MODE SWITCH to the LEARNING MODE

ACTIVITIES
1. Slide the OFF/LEARNING MODE/ MUSIC MODE SWITCH to choose
a mode of play. You will hear fun sounds, a song, melodies and phrases depending on the selected mode. The light will flash with the sounds.
2. Slide the DAY/ NIGHT SLIDER to hear day or night identified followed by fun phrases and sound effects in LEARNING MODE or a short tune in MUSIC MODE. The light will flash with the sounds.
3. Press the SHAPE BUTTONS to learn shapes, colors, animals and their sounds in LEARNING MODE. In MUSIC MODE you will hear the animals sounds and cheerful melodies. The light will flash with the sounds.
4. In LEARNING MODE, press Kanga & Roo, twist Winnie the Pooh or push Tigger down to hear the characters and their objects identified, fun phrases and

related sounds. The light will flash with the sounds.

In MUSIC MODE, press Kanga & Roo,
twist Winnie the Pooh or push Tigger down to hear a variety of melodies or a song. Move any of the manipulative features or press any of the buttons while a melody is playing to jam in the related sound effect. The light will flash with the sounds.
5. In LEARNING MODE, if there is no input for 10 seconds, a random question related to the characters will be asked. If there is no input for another 10 seconds, a random question related to the animals will be asked. If answered correctly, a rewarding phrase will be given. In MUSIC MODE, if there is no input for 10 seconds you will hear a fun phrase. If there is no input for another 10 seconds you will hear a short tune. In either mode, if there is no input for a further 10 seconds, Winnie the Pooh will say “Good-bye” and the unit will enter sleep mode. The unit can be turned on again by pressing any button or by moving any of the manipulative features. The light will flash with the sounds.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.
2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from any direct heat source.
3. Remove the batteries when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time.
4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If for some reason the program/activity stops working or malfunctions, please follow these steps:
1. Please turn the unit off.
2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries.
4. Turn the unit on. The unit should now be ready to play again.
5. If the product still does not work, replace with a new set of batteries.
