INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the VTech® Manny’s Construction Laptop!
You break it, we fix it! Handy Manny has the best repair shop in town, but he needs your help to finish all the repairs today. Pat is there to hit the nails, Felipe can turn the screws and you can also use the number buttons and letter buttons to help. If you press the bilingual button, you can learn some basic Spanish too! Don’t forget to use Stretch to select your answer on the screen. We’ve got a job to do, let’s go!

Unlock the packaging locks:
Rotate the packaging lock 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Pull out the packaging lock.
GETTING STARTED
BATTERY INSTALLATION
1. Make sure the unit is turnedMake sure the unit is turned OFF.
2. Locate the battery cover on the bottom of the unit.
3. Open the battery cover.
4. In s tall 3 ne w “A A” (A M-3/LR6) batteries into the compartment as illustrated. (The use of new alkaline batteries is recommended for maximum performance.)
5. Replace the battery cover.
BATTERY NOTICE
• Install batteries correctly observing the polarity (+, -) signs to avoid leakage.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix batteries of different types: alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium).

• Remove the batteries from the equipment when the unit will not be used for an extended period of time
• Always remove exhausted batteries from the equipment.
• Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
• Do not attempt to recharge ordinary batteries.
• The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
• Only batteries of the same and equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.

1. ON/OFF BUTTON
To turn the unit ON, press the ON/OFF
BUTTON.
2. VOLUME BUTTON
Press the VOLUME BUTTON to decrease or increase the volume.
3. BILINGUAL BUTTON
Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to learn
Spanish.

4. ACTIVITY BUTTON
Press the ACTIVITY BUTTON to exit
an activity and go back to the activity selection menu.

5. SCREW KEYS
Use Felipe to turn the SCREW KEYS to learn
colors and shapes, and fix the objects in the Repair Job game. The turning animation will be shown on screen at the same time.
6. NAIL BUTTONS
Use Pat to hit the NAIL BUTTONS to learn
colors and shapes, and fix the objects in the Repair Job game. The hitting animation will be shown on screen at the same time.
7. NUMBER BUTTONS
Press the NUMBER BUTTONS to learn and
answer questions in related activities.
8. LETTER BUTTONS
Press the LETTER BUTTONS to learn and
answer questions in related activities.
9. REPEAT BUTTON
Press the REPEAT BUTTON to hear an
instruction or question repeated.
10. CURSOR MOUSE (STRETCH)
Move the CURSOR MOUSE to make a
selection on the screen. Press the ENTER BUTTON to confirm an answer. The mouse can be moved in four directions.

11. AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF
To preserve battery life, the VTech® Manny’s Construction
Laptop will automatically turn off after several minutes of inactivity. The unit can be turned on again by pressing the ON/OFF BUTTON.
TO BEGIN PLAY
1. To begin play, press the ON/OFF BUTTON.
2. You will see a short animation before being asked to choose an activit in the selected mode. Use the CURSOR MOUSE to scroll through the activities on the screen. These will scroll automatically if there is no input. To select an activity, press the ENTER BUTTON when your chosen activity is shown on the screen.
ACTIVITIES
1. Exploring
Press the buttons to hear numbers, letters, colors and shapes identified.
Press the NUMBER BUTTONS again to hear each number spoken in Spanish. Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear some useful Spanish phrases.
2. Repair Job
We’ve got a job to do! Help Manny fix the objects that have been
broken by using the tools to either hit the nails or turn the screws according to the instructions. Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear the Spanish translation of the number used in each instruction.
3. Counting
Watch carefully and count when the tools are working, then fill in
the correct number on the screen. Press the NUMBER BUTTONS to answer. Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear the Spanish
translation of the number that has been counted.

4. Fix the Letter
Help fix the broken letter shown on the screen by pressing the matching
letter button. Press the LETTER BUTTONS to answer and press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear the Spanish translation of the letter
that needs to be fixed.
5. Jump-In
Help collect the hammers as they fall down and avoid getting any
apples in the toolbox. Move the CURSOR MOUSE left and right to play. In this game, you can press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear some useful Spanish phrases.
6. Stretch’s Numbers
Fill in the missing number to complete the number sequence. Press
the NUMBER BUTTONS to answer and press the BILINGUAL
BUTTON to hear the Spanish translation of the missing number.
7. Fix the Picture
Find the missing half to complete the picture. Move the CURSOR
MOUSE to select your answer and press the ENTER BUTTON to
confirm. Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to learn the Spanish words for a variety of objects.
8. Repair List
Help Manny find the items on the repair list. Press the LETTER
BUTTONS to find the corresponding objects. Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear the Spanish translation of the items that need to be
found.
9. Safety
Watch carefully to decide if the action shown on screen is safe to do,
or not. If the action is safe, use the CURSOR MOUSE to select the answer option “Yes” on the screen. If not, use the CURSOR MOUSE

to select the answer option “No”. In this game, press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear some useful Spanish phrases.
10. Quiz
Manny is playing a quiz game with the tools. To help the tools
find the correct answer, press the NUMBER BUTTONS, LETTER BUTTONS, NAIL BUTTONS or SCREW BUTTONS to answer. Press the BILINGUAL BUTTON to hear the Spanish translation of
the numbers, letters and objects.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.
2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from any direct heat source.
3. Remove the batteries when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time.
4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If for some reason the program/activity stops working or malfunctions, please follow these steps:
1. Please turn the unit OFF.
2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries.
4. Turn the unit ON. The unit should now be ready to play again.
5. If the product still does not work, replace with a new set of batteries.
