Kit of measuring lines TL-1
Item-No. 12 05 32
These operating instructions are an integral part of this product. They also contain
important instructions on commissioning and handling. Please also take them into consideration when passing the product on to third parties.
This product requires basic knowledge in the handling of measuring equipment.
Usage for the intended purpose:
Connection to and operation with measuring instruments of overvoltage category 2 (CAT II)
up to 1000 VDC/VACrms with 4mm safety input sockets.
During current measurement, the measured current must not exceed 10A.
Voltage measurements of 1000 VDC/VACrms may only be performed for max. 10s at intervals
of 10 minutes.
Description of the adjustment controls
1. Luminous range (light guides made of plastic)
2. Lighting push-button
3. Battery compartment cover
4. Insulating sleeve for the measuring line connector
5. Measuring line connector (red for "+" and black for "-")
Comply with the max. input quantities.
Safety provisions
• Any damage caused by non-compliance with the operating instructions rule out your warranty claim! We shall not be held liable for consequential damage resulting from such non-compliance.
We shall not be held liable for material or personal damage resulting from improper handling or non-compliance with the safety provisions. In such cases, any warranty claims are
ruled out.
• The measuring lines have been designed and tested according to EN 61010-2-31, and left
our factory in perfectly safe technical condition. To maintain this condition and to ensure safe
operation, the user must comply with the safety provisions and warning instructions
("Attention!" and "Note!") contained in these Operating Instructions. The following symbols
must be observed:
= Read the Operating Instructions
CAT II = Overvoltage category II
= Safety Class II (= double isulation)
• The measuring lines may only be used for measurements in current circuits which are protected by 10A. The measuring lines must not be used in installations of overvoltage category
III according to IEC 664. The measuring lines are not protected against arc explosion (IEC
1010-2-031, section 13.101). The measuring lines TL-1 may be used up to max. 1000 VDC/
ACrms (=root mean square value) in overvoltage category II (CAT II).
• Measuring instruments and accessories must be kept away from children
• Check your measuring lines for damage before commencing measurement.
• To avoid electric shocks, make sure that during the measurement the test prods and the terminals to be measured (measuring points) are not touched, not even indirectly.
Do not operate the measuring device in rooms or under adverse ambient conditions which
involve (or might involve) inflammable gases, vapours or dust. For your own safety, it is
essential to prevent the measuring lines from getting damp or wet.
• If safe operation cannot be expected any longer, the device must be put out of operation and
secured against unauthorized operation.
• It is essential to observe the safety provisions of the measuring instrument in question.
Function, application, battery replacement
By pushing a button, a light in the red test prod is turned on. To this effect, the test prod comprises the push-button, an LED, two button cells ensuring supply, and the appropriate wiring.
The following must be taken into consideration for battery replacement:
- Disconnect (both) the test prods from the measuring circuit
- Switch off the measuring instrument
The battery compartment cover is placed on the side of the push-button
- Slide this cover in the direction of the arrow
- Now the battery compartment is exposed
- The two button cells are placed vertically in the battery compartment
- Take account of correct polarity - even when removing the exhausted batteries.
- Replace the two button cells by well-charged batteries of the same type (AG 3)
- Now close the battery compartment carefully
Do not perform measurements while the battery compartment is open.
Attention! Danger of fatalities!
Do not leave discharged batteries in the battery compartment, as even leakage-proof batteries might corrode; thus chemicals might be released which
are harmful to health or might damage the battery compartment.
Discharged batteries must be considered as toxic waste and thus have to be
disposed of in an environmentally responsible fashion. Specific collectors
are provided to this effect at special retailers or in recycling centres.
To save the two button cells, make sure that the lighting button is only actuated under adverse
lighting conditions (shadow), and only briefly.
Disposal
Please dispose the device, when it is no longer in use, according to the current
statutory requirements.
Disposal of flat batteries/rechargeable batteries.
As the end user, you are required by law (Battery Ordinance) to return
all used batteries/rechargeable batteries; disposal of them in the
household waste is prohibited.
Contaminated batteries/rechargeable batteries are labelled with these
symbols to indicate that disposal in domestic waste is forbidden. The
symbols for dangerous heavy metal constituents are: Cd = cadmium,
Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. You can return used batteries/rechargeable
batteries free of charge to any collecting point of your local authority,
to our stores or to any other store where batteries/rechargeable batteries are sold.
You thus fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
Technical data
Working temperature ....................: -10°C to +50°C
Relative humidity ..........................: max. 80 %, non-condensing
Battery type ..................................: 2 x button cell AG 3 = LR41
Besides occasional battery replacement, the measuring line kit does not
require any maintenance, as it does not comprise exchangeable parts. It
must never be opened for repair! If the device is opened nevertheless, this
rules out all warranty claims.
