GENERAL INFORMATION
Explanation of symbols
The following symbols are used in this manual:
This symbol is used to indicate safety instructions and warnings.
!
These contain important information for the safe use of the unit. Failure to observe this information may result in a risk of damage or injury. Therefore, please observe this information with particular care.
Identifies an action to be performed.
u
Identifies useful tips and information for the operation of the
t
system.
A bullet before the text identifies an enumeration.
•
Text in quotation marks identifies a screen menu option.
“
For your safety!
The use of the navigation system by no means relieves the driver of
!
his/her responsibilities. Always observe the applicable traffic regulations
and take the current traffic conditions into consideration. You always
have priority over the information provided by the navigation system if
the actual traffic situation and the information from the navigation
system conflict.
!
The system does not take the relative safety of the suggested routes
into consideration. Road blocks, building sites, height or weight
restrictions, traffic or weather conditions or other influences which
affect the route safety or travel time are not taken into consideration
for the suggested routes. Use your own discretion in order to decide on
the suitability of the suggested routes. Use the “Alternative Route”
function to receive better routing suggestions, or simply follow your
preferred route and the automatic routing recalculation will plan the
route for the remainder of your journey.
!
In the interests of road safety, only perform inputs to the navigation
system and the phone prior to commencing your journey or when the
vehicle is stationary.
4
Page 5
GENERAL INFORMATION
The current statutory speed limit on the road always takes priority over
!
the values stored on the data CD/DVD. It is impossible to provide an
assurance that the speed values of the navigation system will always
match those of the current traffic regulations in every situation.
In certain areas one-way streets, turn off and entry restrictions (e.g. to
!
pedestrian zones) have not been surveyed. In areas such as these the
navigation system will issue a warning. Pay particular attention to
one-way streets, turn off and entry restrictions.
Please make certain that all persons using your multimedia system have
!
access to this manual, and that they read the instructions and suggestions
for the use of the system prior to using it.
If your screen is installed on a flexible support, adjust it so that you can
!
see the screen contents quickly and easily, and reflections and dazzle or
glare are avoided. Find a suitable spot to stop the vehicle prior to
performing adjustments.
If your monitor is installed on a fixed support, check that your dealer
!
has installed it in accordance with the above recommendations. The
screen must not be installed in a position where it obstructs the view of
any items necessary for the safe operation of the vehicle (e.g. road,
mirrors, instruments, surroundings). In addition, the monitor may not
be installed within deployment range of the airbag.
!
Only look at the monitor if it is safe to do so. Find a suitable place to
stop should you need to look at the screen for a longer period of time.
!
Always store the remote control in a safe place.
!
The values displayed on the system’s “Trip computer” giving the current
speed, driving time and the elapsed distance, are calculated values.
Accuracy cannot always be guaranteed. In the case of speed, the vehicle
speedometer must always be given priority.
!
Do not rely exclusively on the navigation system when attempting to
locate an emergency service (police, fire service, etc.). It cannot be
guaranteed that all available emergency services in your vicinity are
stored in the database. Use your own discretion and abilities to secure
help in such situations.
!
Making a phone call while driving can greatly reduce your level of
awareness and distract you from the traffic situation. In order to avoid
endangering the occupants and other road users, the driver should not
make phone calls while driving. Observe the local regulations relating
to making phone calls in the vehicle.
5
Page 6
GENERAL INFORMATION
Switch off the telephone at petrol stations, chemical plants, fuel depots
!
or similar facilities, or leave it switched off.
Operation of the telephone can cause malfunction of medical
!
equipment in the vicinity of the GSM antenna, such as pacemakers or
hearing aids.
Do not touch the GSM antenna during a call.
!
Important – the correct system software!
As of spring 2004 software version MO 5595 will be available for your navigation system. This version must be loaded onto your system if you wish to use the map CD/DVD 2004/2. If your system does not show the correct version, please contact your dealer or the C-IQ Service Centre (00800 99 33 33 33). To find out which version of the software is installed on your system proceed as follows:
Select “System config.” under “Settings”, and press the OK key.
u
Now select “Configuration”, and press the OK key. Now select the
u
“SW Number:” option. It must be 0950 or higher.
Maintenance and care
Do not use cleaning fluid, alcohol or other solvents. A damp cloth is best suited.
Functions of your navigation system
By buying this Multimedia System you have purchased a high-performance instrument which has been designed to assist drivers in daily traffic. Simply enter the destination prior to setting off, activate “Guidance” and you are ready to go. The navigation system will provide driving instructions in audible and visual form. With the mobile phone connected, you increase the safety and ease with which calls can be made from within the vehicle. The system is simple to use, because of the small number of operating elements and its clear menu structure.
Range of functions
Some of the functions described in this manual are only to be used in conjunction with optional accessories. It may also be that use cannot be made of certain functions in some countries because the data has not been surveyed. Due to the large range of functions a conscious decision was taken not to allow all the settings to be used in any combination in the interests of ensuring ease of use and functionality.
6
Page 7
GENERAL INFORMATION
System expansion
In conjunction with a TMC expansion, the system will show the current traffic situation along your route, and will guide you around road obstructions if desired. Numerous system expansions are available to upgrade to an information and entertainment system.
Distance indications
On main roads, the distances to exits indicated by the system deviate from those on road signs. The road signs on main roads refer to the start of the exit, while the navigation system always indicates the distance to the end of the slip road. This is the point where the driving lanes fork (separate).
Operating restrictions (country-specific)
If a symbol depicting a crossed out hand appears in the bottom status line it means that only limited operating options are available whilst driving. Whether or not this function is activated will depend upon the prevailing national regulations.
GPS reception
The system has been designed to remain operational even when there is poor GPS reception. However, positional accuracy may be impaired.
Start-up characteristics
If the vehicle has been parked for some time, the satellites will have continued on their orbits. As a result, once the ignition has been switched on, it may take several minutes before a sufficient number of satellites are being received and the system can start analysing their signals. Adequate reception (three-dimensional position) is indicated by the black satellite symbol on the display. The satellite symbol remains red if GPS reception is inadequate.
During the start-up process, the navigation system may report the message: “Please proceed to the planned route”. The system assumes that the vehicle is located off a stored road. If other roads exist in this area, the navigation system may issue incorrect messages. The system assumes that the vehicle is located on a different road.
Automatic route re-calculation
If you do not follow the instructions of the system, the system will automatically plan a new route.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Areas with limited road information
In some areas, not all road information may be available on the map DVD/CD. Thus, for example, turn-off prohibitions, information on the direction of travel in a one-way street or prohibited entry into a pedestrian zone may be missing. The navigation system will display a warning if you drive into such an area.
Information concerning the functions of the navigation system can be
t
found on the internet at www.vdodayton.de.
Switching on / off
The multimedia system is switched on and off along with the ignition. If the system was not switched to stand-by prior to switching off, a title screen will be displayed. This is followed by information on how to operate the system. Confirm this by pressing the OK key. After a few seconds, the system will be functional.
Remote control
If you wish to use the remote control outside the cradle, batteries will be required and these will have to be replaced if the system no longer responds when the buttons are pressed or if the battery symbol appears in the status line. Please remember that the remote control must not be exposed to direct sunlight if batteries have been inserted. The system can always be used whenever the remote control is inside its wired cradle; for this no batteries are required.
Some buttons and keys have two functions, which are activated respectively either by pressing them briefly for less than a second or by pressing and holding them down for more than a second.
Depending on the scope of supply, various remote controls might be used. Full functionality can only be ensured if the correct remote control is activated. To do this, select “Remote control” under “Settings” and activate the desired remote control by pressing the OK key.

You can purchase country maps for navigation and/or travel info products (e.g. hotel and restaurant guides) at a flat rate and in advance for use on a daily basis, but without having to specify the actual days concerned. This means that you can always have the correct data at your fingertips for making short trips abroad or taking a weekend trip. With the “prepaid” service the information must be activated on the calendar day on which it is to be used. Once you have purchased your prepaid days from the C-IQ Service (www.C-IQ.net or 00800 99 33 33 33) they can be activated in the navigation system in the normal manner by means of an access code. Please ensure that the corresponding map CD/DVD has been inserted. For more detailed information concerning this option contact the C-IQ Service.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Activate the Traffic Info option if you wish to be automatically routed around road obstructions (see also section TMC traffic information and Dynamic route in this chapter). If traffic information is not activated, the system will suggest detours. The driver must confirm these manually.
The route criteria can also be changed in the “Navigation” menu under
t
“Route criteria”.
Dynamic route
With the integration of the TMC traffic information (see also chapter TMC traffic information) you have the option of specifying criteria for the system which influence the automatic detour of road obstructions. Settings in the “Dynamic route” menu can only be made if the “Traffic Info” option under “Route criteria” has been activated.
•
Re-routing level defines whether or not the system will plan a detour.
Numerous factors are integrated into the decision process. These
include, for example, the conditions on the alternate route, such as the
road category or the number of townships to be driven through. The
probability of high traffic density on the alternate route also plays a
part. Five levels are available. The lowest level means that, depending
on the conditions, the original route with the stationary traffic can
often be given preference. If the highest level is selected, an alternate
route is always planned.
•
Traffic horizon: the maximum distance that will be considered for a
detour suggestion around road obstructions.
•
Entire delay: takes into account the maximum delay the driver will
accept before he is willing to receive a detour suggestion.
•
Automatic mode: will automatically route you around stationary traffic.
There will be no further prompting of the driver.

Speed warning
In this menu, speed limit and vehicle speed warning can be adjusted.
With regard to the speed limit, the system will access data stored on the map CD/DVD. You can set a warning limit of up to 50 km/h above the speed limit that is stored in the system. Depending on the value set, relevant warnings will appear in the status line. For these warnings to appear, you have to have the speed limit displayed in one of the status bars (see under Screen configuration in this chapter).
The current status can be seen from the colour of the symbol for the speed limit depending on the values set.
•
If the symbol is black and does not display a value, there is either no
data available on the CD/DVD or there is no speed limit on this road.
•
If the symbol and the value appear in black, you are driving below the
current speed limit.
•
If the symbol is yellow you are driving above the permitted speed but
still below the set tolerance value.
•
A red symbol means that you are exceeding both the permitted speed
and the tolerance value you have set.
21
Page 22

Guidance in non-digitised areas
If the specified destination is not located on a digitised road, the directions will take you to the position (linear distance) closest to the destination. The display shows the note “The destination is outside the digitised map area”. In all display modes, rather than being provided as directions, guidance takes the form of an arrow which points to the destination.
Guidance in partly digitised areas
In rural areas and in small townships not all the streets may be stored on the map DVD/CD. Whenever you leave a digitised road, the guidance screen changes. The system automatically switches from the guidance or the split screen display to the map display.
Instead of the usual guidance information, an arrow which points in the direction of the destination is now shown at the top right. The distance (linear distance) to the destination is shown underneath. This can also occur in areas with complete digitisation, as not all parking areas are digitised, for example.
Audible messages
As soon as guidance is activated, acoustic routing information is provided in addition to the symbols on the guidance screens. You didn’t hear the information?
u Press the { or VOICE button on the remote control. The last
direction is repeated and/or updated driving directions are provided.
If the symbol l is shown in the status line, the audible information is
switched off. It can be switched on again using the “Settings” menu or also by pressing button + or - on the remote control.
Plan Alternative Route
During guidance it is possible for the navigation system to plan an alternative route to cover a distance which you can select. Use this function, e.g. if you wish to avoid stationary traffic, or if you do not agree with the current routing. The alternative route will be calculated for the specified distance from the vehicle’s current location.
u
Press the ALT-R button. The system now displays the ”Distance” for which the alternative route is to be planned. This can be set from 1 to 50 km.

TMC traffic information
Your Navigation System processes TMC traffic information, provided a TMC expansion, e.g. the MT 5010, is connected, and the TMC data is supported in this region by the map DVD/CD. This is generally the case if TMC traffic information is broadcast in a country (meaning that it can therefore also be received) and you have a current map DVD/CD.
You have the option of adapting the TMC service to your own requirements. Details can be found in the chapter Settings under dynamic route, route criteria and traffic inform. Urgent traffic reports, however, cannot be switched off. If an expansion is connected, and TMC can be received, the TMC status is shown in the status line of the screen.
“TMC” = green TMC information is available. Alternatively
the name of the provider may be displayed.
“TMC” = black No TMC database on the CD/DVD for the region
or data not active for navigation (see C-IQ).
”T” = red Traffic information for the planned route is
available.
“T” = green Less than 50km to the road obstruction
on the planned route. Deviation is possible.
“T“ = orange Accepted or bypassed traffic jams on the
original route.
“TMC” = red TMC reception distorted/no TMC transmitter
selected.

Pay TMC
In some countries or regions extended TMC information might be available for an additional charge. These Pay TMC services are supported by your navigation system and are activated via the C-IQ service (www.C-IQ.net or 00800 99 33 33 33). You can see from the station list in the Info menu whether a Pay TMC station is available in your current region. Pay TMC stations are generally identified by a coin. If you have activated a Pay TMC service and this station is temporarily unavailable, in the case of the TMC receiver MT 5010 the system automatically switches to an available free station until reception is restored.
In the map display
If traffic information is available, the system will show the positions of accidents or stationary traffic on the map. If the obstruction is relevant, it is displayed with a red border. Otherwise it has a grey or orange border, and may show an arrow in the direction of the obstruction.
J
For small map scales, the traffic information is displayed in summary. For larger scales, they are displayed in detail. Road obstructions of a certain length are displayed on smaller scales along with an indication of their direction and length. Traffic density (slow and queuing traffic, or stationary traffic) and the length of the obstruction are displayed by means of arrows.

CI 3000
If a Communication Interface Module (e.g. CI 3000) is connected to the navigation system as an extension, you can use different standard hands-free units and current mobile phones with the system. Selected functions of your mobile phone are then available to you in a well laid-out and convenient manner via the monitor of your navigation system.
If a compatible hands-free unit is connected to the Communication Interface Module and if the cradle contains a suitable mobile phone with SIM card and the PIN code has been entered, the Telephone option will appear in the Start menu. The main functions of your phone are available in this menu.
CIX 3000 Blue
Alternatively you can add the CIX 3000 Blue extension module to the CIX
3000. The CIX 3000 Blue is a Bluetooth hands-free unit. It replaces the commercial hands-free unit and mobile phone unit cradle and allows you to communicate while driving without the need for cables thanks to the Bluetooth data transmission standard. You will require a compatible Bluetooth mobile phone for this application.
At www.vdodayton.com or www.C-IQ.net and by dialling the C-IQ Service Centre on 00800 99 33 33 33 you will find current compatibility lists for all supported mobile phones and hands-free units.
The Bluetooth connection requires pairing or linking of your mobile phone with the CIX 3000 Blue. You can also carry out the “pairing process” without the navigation system. For further information please see the CIX 3000 Blue operating instructions.
The mobile phone can only be operated directly from the phone once the ignition has been switched off. To operate it via the monitor and remote control, the ignition must be switched on.
50
Page 51
TELEPHONE
Please note that the MO 5595 system software continues to support the MG 3000 phone connection, but with limited functionality compared to the CI 3000. For an overview of functions please read the operating instructions for the MO 5594 software.
Linking of mobile phone with CIX 3000 Blue
In order to be able to operate the mobile phone with the CIX 3000 Blue Hands-free terminal it must be registered with the CIX 3000 Blue. This process need only be carried out once for each phone.
If there is no system-linked mobile phone within range, the “Bluetooth” option will automatically appear in the Start menu of the navigation system. u
press the OK button.
The screen will display the message “Pairing started”. Now also
u
start the search for Bluetooth devices on your phone. This function is manufacturer-specific. The navigation system will now need some time to register the mobile phone.
u
If the process has been successful, the device name of your mobile phone will appear on the screen. Confirm by pressing the OK button.
u
The “Telephone” option appears in the Start menu.
t
If registration has been unsuccessful the fault could lie with the
firmware of your mobile phone. Please check the firmware. You can get
the current lists of suitable firmware at vdodayton.com, www.C-IQ.net
and by dialling the C-IQ Service Centre on 00800 99 33 33 33.
Driver software for the CI 3000
The CI 3000 is compatible with selected hands-free units and mobile phones. For some of these, the required driver software is preinstalled (see CI 3000 product label). It is possible to update the CI 3000, for example in order to use a new mobile phone.
The updating of the driver software can be performed automatically or manually. Should a new mobile phone be inserted that is unknown to the CI 3000 the navigation system will automatically start downloading the suitable driver software. If you would like to use several or a variety of mobile phones, for example, with a universal hands-free unit or via the CIX 3000 Blue, this process can also be carried out manually.
