Selection Procedure

Note: For specific dimensional and weight information, refer to the unit s ubmittals. The

dimensions and weights in this ma nual are appro ximate. Trane has a policy of continuous
product and product data improvement and reserves the right to change design and
specifications without notice.

1. Size the air-handling unit based on airflow through the cooling coil (see Table 1). The unique
fin design of T rane coils enables cooling coil selections at velocities in excess of 625 fpm with
no moisture carryover. The coil moisture carryover curves from tested data are built into the
T rane Official Product Selection System (the T OPSS™ program). Use this system to select coils.

2. Choose the coil section (see Table 2). Unit size, coil type, and coil rows determine the minimum
coil section size required.

3. Select a filter type and check face velocities (see Table 3). The maximum recommended face
velocity for pleated media, permanent, bag, and 12-inch cartridge filters is 625 fpm; for
throwaway and HE PA filters, it is 500 fpm.

Note: If selecting an outdoor unit with an inlet hood, verify airflow limitations using Table 4.

4. Design the basic air-handling system.

5. Estimate system static pressure requirements and select a fan (see Table 5 and Table 6).

6. Total the overall air-handling unit dimensions and weights using Table 7 and Table 8.

7. Select a control system. Factory-mounted, -wired, and -tested end devices, starters, VFDs, and
direct-digital, interoperable controllers are available to minimize construction cycles and job­site coordination.

8. Contact your local Trane sales office to order an air-handling system or to ask questions.

Service Clearance Recommendations

A minimum clearance of the section width pl us 1 2 inches on the access door side of the gas heat
section is recommended for routine maintenance. This clearance provides enough room to replace
the heat exchanger in the event of failure. The section side panels must be removed to access the
heat exchanger. Refer to Figure 1 for service clearance recommendations for the air handler.
