he RL-H3CS instrument has many unique features. For basic operation, rough level the instrument and press power switch. It
ill self-level, then emit a rotating laser beam to cr eate a level reference plane. The laser provides controls that allow the beam
lane to be tilted up to 5 degrees for single slope applications.

Laser Safety
This product uses a visible laser beam, and is manufactured and sold in accordance with “Performance Standards for Light-Emittin g Products”
(FDA/BRH 21 CFR 1040) or “Radiation Safety of Laser Products, Equipment Classification, Requ irements and User’s Guide” (IEC Publication
60825-1) provided on the safety standa rds f o r la s er p roducts.
As per the said standard, this pr oduct is classified as a “Class ll Laser Pr oduct” or “Class 2 Laser Product”.
This is a simple product to operate and does not require training from a laser safety officer.
In case of any failure, do not disassemble the instrument. Contact TOP CON or your TOPCON dealer.
STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
Always clean the instrument after use.
Use a clean cloth moistened with neutral detergent or water.
Never use an abrasive cleaner, ether, thinner benzene, or other solvents.

up or carrying the tripod.
• Do not allow skin or clothing to come into contact with acid from the batteries, if this
does occur then wash off with copious amounts of water and seek medical advice.
• Do not place instrument on unstable platform, surface or tripod.
If using tripod, make sure instrument is securely attached.
• Risk of injury by falling down a tripod and an in strument.
Always check that the screws of tripod are tightened.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Remove the bat tery cover by tu rning b atter y cover knob to “OPEN” side.

Remove the batteries by pulling out the slide plate.

Install the new batteries referring to the illustration on the battery
cover.*1, *2, *3

*1 Replace all 4 batteries with new ones at the same time. Do not mix used and new batteries,
and do not mix different types of batteries together.
*2 Use alkaline dry cells. (Dry cells for movement confirmation are packed in shipment.)
Nickel hydrogen dry cells and nickel cadmium dry cells can be used too, but the operating time
is different from the time of alkaline dry cells.
*3 Generally, performances of dry cell deteriorate temporarily in low tem p erature, bu t recover in
normal temper at ure.
*4 It is important to use a coin or other tool to make sure cover is firmly closed to seal out water.

On-Grade precision switch
Two on-grade precision options are available, normal precision and high precision. By pressing this switch, the precision options are switched alternately. Confirm the precision
choice by the indicator. (Normal precision is the default setting each time the sensor is turned on. See LS-70B Indicator diagram below.)
Power switch
The power switch turns ON or OFF by pressing. If the power
switch is turned ON, all signs will be displayed on the indicator for a second with a beep sound.
Buzzer speaker
Buzzer sound switch
Volume of the sensor buzzer can be alternately switched to
LOW/LOUD/OFF by pressing the switch.
Auto shut off function
The power will be turned off auto matically i f no laser beam
is detected for approximately 30 minutes. (To turn on the
laser sensor, press the power switch again.)

HOW TO OPERATE
1 Set the i nstrum ent to th e tripod or smo oth su rface.

Make sure instrument is roughly level.
3
Press power switch (ON).
Aligning Direction of Slope
When u sing the l aser to set the slop e, the laser
must be proper l y ali g ne d so the slo pe axis of the
laser beam is parallel to the desired direction o f
slope.
The sight on to p of th e instrum ent is calibrate d to
the slope axis of the laser beam. Follow the
steps below to align the laser t o the desire d
directi on of slope:

Establish a target line parallel to desired
direction of slope.
2
Set up the laser over t his line (drop a plumb
bob fr om th e t ri pod mounti ng screw) .
3
Rough al i g n t he instrument to the direction of
slope . Make sur e i t is p roperly oriented for th e
slope to b e s et.
4 Using the sight, position the ins tru ment so the
sight is centered o n the target. (see illustration at right)
CHECKS AND ADJUSTMENTS
Checking and adjusting calibration

Horizontal calibration of t he laser beam can be checked by the user.

Set up a tripod approx. 50m (160ft) from a wall. Mount the instrument on t he
tripod, facing the X1 side toward the wall.

Turn the instrument on and allow auto-leveling t o complete.

Put the laser sensor in fine d etectio n mode by pressing the On -Grade precision switch.

By using t he laser s e ns o r, mark the center posit i on of laser b eam on the wall.

Turn of f the instrumen t.
Loosen the tri pod screw, rotate the instrum ent 180 de grees and re- s ecure i t
on the t ripod. The X2 side of the in strume nt faces t oward t he wall.
When rotating the in s trumen t, avoi d c hanging the hei ght.

Tur n the uni t on again and allow a uto-leveling to complet e.

The blinking speed of the lamp provides a visual indication of the bea m moveme nt speed.
