To use ‘Caller ID’ (display caller), this service has to be activated on your phone line. Normally you
need a separate subscription from your telephone company to activate this function. If you don’t have
the Caller ID function on your phone line, the incoming telephone numbers will NOT be shown on the

For installation, do the following:
1Plug one end of the adaptor into the outlet and the other end into the adaptor jack on the bottom
of the base.
2Connect one end of the telephone cord with the wall phone jack and the other end to the bottom

The Butler E751 has a menu system which is easy to use. Each menu leads to a list of options.
The function of the 2 keys below the display (Menu-and Esc key) change depending on the

To enter the menu or to confirm the current selection, press this key.
To rotate through the menu options
To go back in the menu selection or backdelete during number or name entry.
2Using the telephone
2.1Switching the handset on/off
1Press and hold the on/off key until the display turns on. The handset will
search the base.
2Press and hold the on/off key for 5 seconds. The display will go off.
2.2Changing the menu language

reconnect to the external caller on line.

2.7Make a 3-way conference call
The conference call feature allows one external call to be shared with two handsets.
During an external call:
1Press the INT key.
2Enter the number of the internal handset (1 to 5), the external caller is put
on hold.
3When the other handset picks up, press and hold the INT-key to establish
the conference call.
If the internal correspondent does not pick-up, press the on-hook key to
reconnect to the external caller on line.

2.8Speaker volume during call
1During a conversation, press the up or down key to change the volume
accordingly.
2.9Microphone mute
It is possible to mute the microphone during a conversation.
1Press the mute key. You can talk freely without being heard by the calling
party. “MUTE ON” is displayed.
2Press the mute key again to return to normal mode.
2.10Using the alphanumerical keypad
With your telephone, you can also enter alphanumeric characters. This is useful for entering a name
into the phonebook, giving a name to the handset, ...
To select a letter, press the corresponding key as many times as necessary. For example, to select
an ‘A’, press ‘2’ once. To select a ‘B’, press ‘2’ twice and so on. To select ‘A’ and then ‘B’
consecutively, press ‘2’ once, wait a few seconds, then press ‘2’ twice.
Press ‘1’ to select a space.
Press Esc-key to delete a character or press and hold the Esc-key to delete all
characters.
3Redial list
You can redial the last 5 number called. When the name of the dialled number is stored in the
phonebook the name will be shown in the redial list.
To call a number from the redial list see “2.4 Making an external telephone call” - “Call from the
redial list”.
To store a number from the redial list into the phonebook see “4.4 Copy a redial entry to the
phonebook”.
3.1Delete a redial number or all redial numbers from the redial list
1Press the redial key.
2Select the desired number.
3Press menu.
4Select “DELETE” to delete the current entry and confirm.
OR
5Select “DELETE ALL” for all entries and confirm.
6Confirm again to delete.
4Phonebook
Each handset can store up to 20 telephone numbers and names. Names can be up to 12 characters
long and numbers up to 24 digits.
To enter alphanumerical characters, refer to the section “2.10 Using the alphanumerical keypad”.

Caller Identification
5Caller Identification
This service only works when you have a caller ID/Clip subscription.
Please contact your telephone company.
When you receive an external call, the telephone number of the caller appears on the handset
display. The telephone can receive calls in both FSK and DTMF. You can also see his or her name
if it is transmitted by the network. If the name is programmed in the phonebook, the name in the
phonebook is displayed!
The caller identity is replaced by the call duration after 15 seconds in
communication.
The telephone can store 20 calls in a call list (received and missed calls) that can be reviewed later.
This function is only available if your are subscribed to the caller ID information.
When the memory is full, the new calls automatically replace the oldest calls in the memory.
New or missed calls are shown on the display by “NEW CALLS” and by a blinking
- icon.
To consult the list of calls:
1Press the call log key.
If there are no calls in the list “NO NUMBER” will appear.
2Scroll through the calls. The callers names will be shown if the name is send
by the network or is stored in the phonebook. If you are at the end of the list
you will hear a double beep tone.
When the -icon is shown, the call is not reviewed in the call log yet.
3Press the menu key to add this entry to the phonebook if it’s not already
stored. Press OK when “COPY TO PB” is shown on the display.
Enter or modify the name and press OK.
Enter or modify the telephone number and press OK.
Select the melody (1-10) which will be heard when this number is calling.
Press OK, the entry will be stored in the phonebook.
4Press the off-hook key to call back a correspondent, when his telephone
number or name is displayed.
View the details of the call list entry:
1When you are in the call list press the menu key.
2Select “VIEW” and press OK.
3Press OK repeatedly to see more information.
You can delete each entry separately:
1Scroll to the call you want to delete and press the menu key.
2Select “DELETE” and press OK.
3Press OK again to confirm.
To delete all entries at ones:

6.1Adjusting the ring volume
Handset ring volume internal/external calls
The handset ring volume for internal or external calls cannot be set separately. You can choose from
1 to 5 and off.
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.
2Select “HS SETTINGS” and confirm.
3Select “HANDSET TONE” and confirm.
4Select “RING VOLUME” to change the internal & external volume and
confirm.
5Select a volume (1-5 or “OFF”).
6Confirm or return to the previous menu.
6.2Silent mode
You can turn the handset ringer off, so that you won’t be disturbed, by a single key press:
1Press and hold the ringer off key for 3 seconds. The ringer will be off and
will appear on the screen.
2Press and hold the ringer off key again to turn it back on.

6.3Choosing the ring melody
Each handset can ring with a different melody. The handsets can ring with a different melody
according to whether the call is internal or external. You can choose from 10 different ringer
melodies:
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.
2Select “HS SETTINGS” and confirm.
3Select “HANDSET TONE” and confirm.
4Select “INT/RING” to change the internal melody or “EXT/RING” to
change the external melody and confirm.
5Select a melody (1 to 10).

6.4Automatic answer
When there is a incoming call and the handset is on the base, the phone automatically takes the line
when lifted.
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.

4Select “ON” to activate or “OFF” to deactivate and confirm.
6.5Keypad lock
The keypad can be locked so that no settings can be changed or no telephone number can be dialed.
“KEYS LOCKED” will appear on the screen when keypad is locked.

You can change the default handset name (10 characters) that appears on the display in standby:

6.9Select the handset display
You can choose between the time or the handset name on the idle display of the handset:

6.10Alarm settings
You can use the handset to set an alarm clock. When an alarm is set, the -icon appears on the
screen. During alarm the -icon and “ALARM ON” will on the screen during 60 seconds. You
can press any key to disable the alarm.

Set the alarm time
You can still press any key to turn the alarm off when the keypad is locked.
The alarm volume is the same as the ring volume, when the ring volume is set off,
the alarm will ring at volume 1.
During a call when alarm goes active, you will hear a warning tone through the ear
piece, you can still turn it off by pressing any key.
During paging or ringing, no alarm tone will be hearable.

If you have new messages in your voice mail box, blinks on the display. You can program your
access number so you can get your message at the touch of the ‘1’ button.
To set up your voice access number:

4Enter your access number (up to 24 digits) and confirm.

You can locate a missing handset by pressing the page key on the base station. All the handsets
registered to the base will produce the paging tone and “PAGING” is displayed. You can stop the
paging by pressing any key on the handset or by pressing the page-key again on the base.
7Base settings
7.1Base ring volume
To change the base ring volume:
Press the base volume keys to increase or to decrease.
The volume can be set from 0 to 5.
7.2Set the flash time
Press the flash key R (key 14 - picture 1D Handset) to use certain services on your external line such
as “call waiting” (if your phone company offers this feature); or to transfer calls if you use a
telephone exchange (PABX). The flash key R is a brief interruption of the line. You can set the flash
time to 100ms, 300ms or 600ms (“SHORT”,” MEDIUM” and “LONG”):
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.
2Select “ADVANCED SET” and confirm.
3Select “RECALL TIME” and confirm.
4Select “SHORT”, “MEDIUM” or “LONG” and confirm.
7.3Setting the system PIN code
Certain functions are only available to users who know the PIN code.
By default the PIN code is 0000. To change the PIN code:

7.4First ring tone
You can turn of the first ring tone as followed:

7.5Setting the dialling mode
There are two different dialling modes that can be used when making calls:
•DTMF = dual tone multiple frequency, or tone dialling (today's modern dialling mode)
•Pulse dialling (in older devices)

Managing multiple handsets
Modern devices are equipped with both functions which can be changed depending on the
application. DTMF is required for programming or control functions, for example, if the device is
operated on a PBX. If pulse dialling is used, malfunctions can occur on PBXs during normal
operation because the system interprets the pulse dialling signals incorrectly.

8Managing multiple handsets
8.1Adding a new handset
Only needed when you have deregistered a handset or when you bought a new one.
You can register new handsets on the base if these handsets support the DECT GAP protocol. The
base can support a maximum of 5 handsets. If you already have 5 handsets, and you wish to add
another one or change one handset, you must first delete a handset, then associate the new handset.
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.
2Select “ADVANCED SET” and confirm.
3Select “REGISTER” and confirm.
4Enter the 4-digit system PIN and confirm.
5Press and hold the paging-key on the base for 5 seconds.

DECT GAP Profile only guarantees that basic calling-functions will work
correctly between different brands/types. There’s a possibility that certain services
(like CLIP) will not work correctly.
8.2Delete a handset
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.
2Select “ADVANCED SET” and confirm.
3Select “UNREGISTER” and confirm.
4Enter the 4-digit system PIN and confirm.
5Select the handset you want to remove and confirm.
9Reset the phone
It is possible to return the phone to the original default configuration. This is the configuration which
was installed when you first received the telephone. After the reset all your personal settings and
call list entreis will be deleted, but your phonebook remains.
To return to default settings:
1Enter the menu by pressing the menu key.
2Select “ADVANCED SET” and confirm.
3Select “RESET” and confirm.
4Confirm again.

Answering machine
10Answering machine
The Butler E751 has a built-in digital answering machine with a recording capacity of 15 min. This
answering machine can be controlled by the base and by the handset. The answering machine can
be operated remotely and features the possibility of recording two outgoing messages (Message 1
and Message 2).
All messages and settings are stored on flash-memory and will not be erased when
the adapter is unplugged. Only the day/time settings will be erased.

Most settings can also be done on the base but some settings are controlled by the handset.
Setting the base speaker volume
To change the volume during playback of incoming or outgoing messages:
Press the base volume keys during playback to increase or to decrease.
The volume can be set from 0 to 5. If the volume is set to the lowest position there will be no
audible output during call screening and during remote interrogation, but there will be a level 1
output for other operation.
Turning answering machine on/off
If the answering machine is on, the 7-segment counter (21) on the base will light up continuously
(or blink when there are new messages) and the machine will automatically pick up the line after
a number of rings (see “ Setting number of rings (Answer delay)”). On the handset the -icon
will be show (or blink when there are new messages).
If the answering machine is off, the answering on/off LED (21) on the base will not lit and the
-icon will not been shown on the handset display.
To turn the answering on/off from the base.
1Press the on/off key on the base to switch on the answering machine.
2A voice confirms the setting and playback the active outgoing message.
3Press the on/off key again to switch off the answering machine.
To turn the answering on/off from the handset:
1Enter the menu.
2Select “ANSW MACHINE” and confirm.
3Select “ANSW, ON/OFF” and confirm.
4Select “ON” or “OFF” and confirm.
Even if the answering machine is off, the machine will automatically pick up after
10 rings in order to enable remote activation (see “10.3 Remote operation”).
Setting number of rings
The number of rings after which the answering machine will answer calls can be set from 3 to 9
and “Economy”. The standard setting is 5 rings. In “Toll saver” mode, the machine will answer
after 6 rings if there are no new messages, and after 2 rings if there are new messages. If there are
no new messages and you call your machine to check your messages remotely (see “10.3 Remote
operation”), you can hang up after the 2nd ring. You do not need to pay connection fees and you
know that you don’t have any new messages.

(Answer delay)
To set the number of ring by the handset:
1Enter the menu.
2Select “ANSW MACHINE” and confirm.

4Select “RING DELAY” and confirm.
5Set the number of rings and confirm.
Memory full
If the memory is full, the answering message counter on the base (21) will show “”. If the
answering machine is turned on and a call comes in, the machine will automatically play outgoing
message 2 (answering machine function without recorded caller message).
When listening to the messages, the internal voice will say that the memory is full before playing
back the messages. Erase some or all the messages to have free memory again.
Allowing to control your answering machine remotely
If you want to access your answering machine remotely (see “10.3 Remote operation”) you have to
turn this function on.
By default this is turned off..
1Enter the menu.
2Select “ANSW MACHINE” and confirm.
3Select “SETTINGS” and confirm.
4Select “REMOTE ACC,” and confirm.

Recording and selecting an outgoing message
Two outgoing messages of 1 minutes can be recorded (OGM1 and OGM2).
• Outgoing message 1 for the answering function and the possibility for callers to leave a message.
• Outgoing message 2 for the answering function without allowing callers to leave a messages on
the machine (answer only).
If no outgoing message is recorded, a pre-recorded outgoing message will be used.
To set the language of the pre-recorded message see above.
1Enter the menu.
2Select “ANSW MACHINE” and confirm.
3Select “RECORD OGM” and confirm.
4Select “ANSW,&RECORD” or “ANSWER ONLY” and confirm.
• Select “PLAY” to play and hear the outgoing message.

To set the answering mode by the handset:

Call screening On or OFF
While the answering machine takes a message, you can monitor the caller’s voice on the base
speaker. You can also monitor from the handset speaker if you turn this feature on (see also “ Call
screening on base and handset” below):
1Enter the menu.
2Select “ANSW MACHINE” and confirm.
3Select “SETTINGS” and confirm.
4Select “SCREENING” and confirm.
5Select “ON” or “OFF” and confirm
10.2 Operation
If a call is received and the answering machine is turned ON, the answering machine will
automatically answer the call after the set number of rings.
• If answer and recording has been selected, the message will be played, a beep will be heard and
the caller can leave a message (max. 3 minutes).
• If outgoing message 2 has been selected, after the beep, the line will automatically be disconnected. The caller doesn’t have the possibility to leave a message.
If, during recording, nothing is said for 8 seconds, the line will be automatically
disconnected.
Due to noise on your telephone line, it’s possible that the device will not disconnect
automatically, but record up to max. 3 minutes. The recording will be interrupted as
soon as you take the line. If the unit continuous recording, press on the base.
Call screening on base and handset
This function is convenient if you only want to answer certain calls. During incoming call it is
possible to screen the call over the base and handset and hear who is calling. On the base, if the
speaker volume is not set to minimum, you can hear the outgoing message and the caller who is
leaving a message. For the handset:
1When “RECORDING” appears press OK, you can hear the caller by the
handset.
2Press the on-hook key to stop the screening.
Playback of incoming messages
On the base:
3Press the playback key to play all the messages and memos.

During playback, you can:
• Press the skip back key once to go to the beginning of the current message.
• Press the skip back key twice to go to the previous message.
Answering machine
On the handset:.
• Press the stop key to stop the playback.
• Press the delete key to erase the current message.
• Press the play/pause key to interrupt the playback. Press the play/pause key
again to restart playback.
• Press the skip forward key to go to the next message.

10.3 Remote operation
The answering machine can be operated remotely using a touch-tone phone (DTMF tone selection
system). The remote control is menu operated.
To enter the remote operation
1Call your machine.
The answering machine picks up the line after set ring delay or when it’s
turned OFF after 10 rings.

3Slowly dial the PIN code (default = ‘0000’).
, press the ‘#’ key long.
4If the PIN code is correct and the unit has new messages, it will start to
pronounce the amount of new messages and also play them. When all
messages are played, the unit will go into command mode and you will hear
beeps.
•If the unit doesn’t have any new messages it will go also in command
mode.

13 Topcom Warranty
13.1Warranty period
The Topcom units have a 24-month warranty period. The warranty period starts on the day the new
unit is purchased. There is no warranty on standard or rechargeable batteries (AA/AAA type).
Consumables or defects causing a negligible effect on operation or value of the equipment are not
covered.
The warranty has to be proven by presentation of the original or copy of the purchase receipt, on
which the date of purchase and the unit-model are indicated.
13.2Warranty exclusions
Damage or defects caused by incorrect treatment or operation and damage resulting from use of
non-original parts or accessories are not covered by the warranty.
The warranty does not cover damage caused by outside factors, such as lightning, water and fire,
nor any damage caused during transportation. No warranty can be claimed if the serial number on
the units has been changed, removed or rendered illegible.
Any warranty claims will be invalid if the unit has been repaired, altered or modified by the buyer.
This appliance may only be used with rechargeable batteries. If you want to replace the originally
included batteries, please check whether the batteries you use are suitable and rechargeable.
Alkaline batteries may under NO circumstances be used in the handsets. If you use Alkaline
batteries and place the handset on the basis, the batteries will heat up and may explode. Any damage
which may be caused cannot be recovered from the manufacturer and the damage thus caused to the
appliance is not covered by the warranty conditions. Any repairs will be charged to you.

household garbage but bring the product to a collection point for the recycling of

1.7Durch das Menü navigieren
Das Butler E751 verfügt über ein leicht zu bedienendes Menüsystem. Jedes Menü besteht aus einer
Reihe von Optionen.
Je nach Betriebsmodus haben die 2 Tasten unterhalb des Displays (Menü- und Esc-Taste)
andere Funktionen:
Drücken Sie diese Taste, um ins Menü zu gelangen oder um die derzeitige
Auswahl zu bestätigen.

2.1Mobilteil ein- und ausschalten
1Drücken Sie die Ein-/Aus-Taste, bis das Display erscheint. Das Mobilteil
sucht die Basisstation.
2Halten Sie die Ein-/Aus-Taste 5 Sekunden lang gedrückt. Die
Anzeige erlischt.
2.2Menüsprache ändern
1Drücken Sie die Menütaste, um ins Menü zu gelangen .
2Wählen Sie „MOBILT EINST (HS SETTINGS)“ aus und bestätigen Sie.

Drücken Sie die *-Taste, um alle Mobilteile zu rufen.
3Drücken Sie die Auflegen-Taste, oder stellen Sie das Mobilteil in die
Basisstation, um das Gespräch zu beenden.
2.6Interne Anrufweiterleitung
Ein externes Gespräch an ein anderes Mobilteil weiterleiten.
1Drücken Sie die INT-Taste.
2Geben Sie die interne Nummer des gewünschten Mobilteils ein (1 bis 5); der
externe Anruf wird gehalten.
3Wird das Gespräch am anderen Mobilteil angenommen, drücken Sie die
Auflegen-Taste, um aufzulegen und das Gespräch weiterzuleiten.
Nimmt der interne Teilnehmer den Anruf nicht an, drücken Sie die INT-Taste
erneut, um den externen Anruf zurückzuholen.
4Drücken Sie die Auflegen-Taste oder stellen Sie das Mobilteil in die
Basisstation, um das Gespräch zu beenden.

Wahlwiederholungsliste
2.7Konferenzschaltung mit 3 Teilnehmern
Die Funktion Konferenzschaltung ermöglicht ein Gespräch zwischen einem externen
Gesprächspartner und zwei Mobilteilen.
Während eines externen Gesprächs:
1Drücken Sie die INT-Taste.
2Geben Sie die interne Nummer des gewünschten Mobilteils ein (1 bis 5);
der externe Anruf wird gehalten.
3Wird das Gespräch am anderen Mobilteil angenommen, halten Sie die
INT-Taste gedrückt, um die Konferenzschaltung herzustellen.
Nimmt der interne Gesprächspartner den Anruf nicht an, drücken Sie die
Gespräch-annehmen Taste on-hook, um den externen Anruf zurückzuholen.
2.8Lautstärke während eines Anrufs einstellen
1Drücken Sie während eines Gesprächs die Nach-oben- oder Nach-unten-
Taste, um die Lautstärke entsprechend einzustellen.
2.9Mikrofon stummschalten
Sie können das Mikrofon während eines Gesprächs stummschalten.
1Drücken Sie die Stummschalttaste. Nun können Sie sprechen, ohne von
Ihrem Gesprächspartner am Telefon gehört zu werden. „STUMM EIN (MUTE ON)“ wird angezeigt.
2Drücken Sie die Stummschalttaste erneut, um das Mikrofon wieder
zu aktivieren.
2.10Die alphanumerischen Tasten verwenden
Sie können mit Ihrem Telefon auch alphanumerische Zeichen eingeben. Dies ist nützlich für die
Eingabe von Namen in das Telefonbuch, zum Benennen des Mobilteils,…
Zur Auswahl eines Buchstabens drücken Sie die entsprechende Taste so oft wie nötig. Drücken Sie
z. B. für den Buchstaben „A“ die Taste „2“ einmal. Für den Buchstaben „B“ drücken Sie die Taste
„2“ zweimal usw. Um die Buchstaben „A“ und „B“ hintereinander einzugeben, drücken Sie die
Taste „2“ einmal, warten dann, bis der Cursor zur nächsten Stelle springt, und drücken dann die
Taste „2“ zweimal.
Drücken Sie die Taste „1“, um eine Leerstelle einzufügen.
Um ein Zeichen zu löschen, drücken Sie die Esc-Taste; wenn Sie die
Esc-Taste gedrückt halten, werden alle Zeichen gelöscht.
3Wahlwiederholungsliste
Sie können die letzten 5 gewählten Nummern erneut wählen. Ist der Name zu der gewählten
Nummer im Telefonbuch gespeichert, wird der Name in der Wahlwiederholungsliste angezeigt.
Um eine Nummer aus der Wahlwiederholungsliste zu wählen, siehe “2.4 Einen externen Anruf
tätigen” - “Eine Nummer aus der Wahlwiederholungsliste wählen”.
Um eine Nummer aus der Wahlwiederholungsliste im Telefonbuch zu speichern,
