!! Important !!
Before installing your Clip 160, please contact your
telephone provider to obtain the CLIP subscription
(display caller).
Without this subscription, the clip function
does not work !
1 Installation
• Open the battery cover underneath the unit and insert
4 AAA batteries or, if you use an adaptor, connect one
end of the adaptor cable to the electric socket and the
other end to the back of the Clip 160 (1).
• Plug one end of the phone cable into the telephone line
wall socket and the other end into the back of the
Clip 160 “LINE” (2).
• Connect one end of the supplied phone cable to the
telephone and the other end to the back of the Clip 160
“PHONE” (3).
Note: The wordings ‘LINE’, ‘PHONE’ and the adaptor information
are mentioned on the bottom of the Clip 160.

• P ress the Call Back button to confirm. The Clip 160
p roceeds to the next menu : ‘Area code and Area Prefix
S e t t i n g ’ .

3 Set the language
The Clip 160 has 4 languages. Take the following steps to
select the desired language :
• P ress and hold the Up button for 5 seconds.
• P ress the Up button again to select the desired language.
4 Area code and Area Prefix setting
4.1 Area Code setting
You can program an area code of 5 digits. When a phone
number comes in, starting with this area code, the area
code will not be displayed.
• Press the Up button to select the first digit
• Press the Down button to move the cursor to the next
digit
• Confirm the correct settings by pressing the Call Back
button
• The unit will go to the next menu “Area Prefix setting”
Note : By pressing the Delete button you can erase the Area code .

4.2 Area Prefix setting
You can program a prefix code the same way as described
in the Area code setting. When a phone number comes in
with the first digits different from the Area code, the Area
prefix will be added in front of the incoming telephone
number.
Below you can find an example of what happens to the
Area code and Area prefix in different situations:

After confirming the correct Area Prefix setting, by
pressing the Call back button, the unit goes to the next
menu “Date and time settings”.

6 Display indications
a) OUT OF AREA = The incoming call has been sent
through by a telephone provider that does not offer
the Caller-ID service. (incl. long distance and
international calls).
b) PRIVATE = The caller’s number can not be displayed
because he has restricted his number/name from being
sent to the receiving part y. It’s a private number.
c) NEW = The number of new calls is shown on the
display.
d) TOTAL = The total number of calls is shown on the
d i s p l a y.
e) PICK UP HANDSET = When you want to recall a
number, the Caller-ID indicates that you have to pick
up the handset or have to activate the handsfree
function.
f) ERROR = An error has occurred in receiving the data
information.
g) TOP OF LIST = The beginning of the list.
h) END OF LIST = The end of the list, there are no more
c a l l s .
i) Rpt = Number of the same calls that came in. Only
the last call will be saved.
j) “*” = You have unread messages in your mailbox.
7 Caller-ID List
When the Clip 160 is being used for the first time or after
replacing the batteries, the following is shown on the
d i s p l a y :

The Caller-ID list maintains the data of the last 90 incoming calls. Press the Up button to show the previous (older)
calls on the display. After the oldest call “TOP OF LIST”
appears on the display. Press the Down button and the
display shows the next (more recent) call. After the most
recent call, the display shows “END OF LIST”.
8 To enter names in the Caller-ID List
It is possible to add a name to each received call in the
Caller-ID List. This makes it possible to use the list afterwards as a phone book to look up numbers. By adding a
name to a number, this name will also be shown on the
display when you receive another call from the same
number. The device automatically returns to standby
mode, when, during programming, no buttons are being
pressed for 30 seconds.
Take the following steps to enter a name:
1 P ress the Up and Down buttons to go to the desired call.
2 Press and hold the Call Back button for 3 sec. to enter
the menu. The cursor appears on the third line of the
display.
3 Press the Up and Down buttons to select the correct
letter. To advance faster, keep the buttons pressed for
2 seconds.
4 Press the Delete button to erase letters if a mistake
has been made while entering the name.
5 Use the Call Back button to move the cursor into the
right direction.
6 Repeat steps 3 to 5 to enter the other letters of the
name.
7 After having entered the name, press and hold the
Call Back button for 2 seconds to confirm.

9 Erasing data
If the list already contains 90 numbers and a new call
comes in, the oldest call will be erased automatically and
the new call will be stored in the memory. When you have
added a name to a call, this call will not be erased when
the memory is full.
When the memory is full only the oldest calls without a
name will be erased.
N o t e : A named call can only be erased as described below.
a) To erase one stored number
• Press the Up or Down buttons to select the number you
want to erase.
• Press the Delete button twice. The displayed number
will be erased.
b) To erase the entire list
• Press and hold the Delete button for 5 sec., the entire
list is erased, except for the calls that have been given a
name.
10 Caller-ID dial
• P ress the Up or Down buttons to select the number you wish
to dial.
• P ress the Call Back button; the displayed number will be
dialled out automatically.
• Pick up the handset when the message “PICK UP HANDSET”
appears on the display.

11 How to replace an empty battery
When the battery is almost empty, the battery icon appears
on the display. As soon as you see this icon, make sure you
replace the battery within the next two weeks or the
m e m o ry will get lost when the battery is completely empty.
S c roll through all the new messages before replacing the
batteries. All the saved data will be pre s e rved if you re p l a c e
the batteries within 1 minute. The device has to be in
standby mode. As soon as the batteries are replaced, pre s s
the Call Back button and the Clip 160 becomes operative.

The equipment has been approved to 98/482/EG
(TBR 21) for pan-European single terminal connection to
the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). However,
due to differences between the individual PSTNs provided
in different countries the approval does not, of itself, give
an unconditional assurance of successful operation on
every PSTN network termination point. Should you have
problems, contact your dealer.
This list will indicate the networks with which the equipment is designed to work and any notified networks with
which the equipment may have interworking difficulties.

1 Instalación
• Abra el compartimento de baterías que se encuentra en
la parte inferior de la unidad e inserte 4 baterías tipo AAA,
o bien, si usted utiliza un adaptador, conecte uno de los
e x t remos del cable del adaptador a la toma eléctrica y el
o t ro extremo en la parte trasera del Clip 160 (1).
• Conecte uno de los extremos del cable telefónico en la
toma de línea telefónica de pared y el otro extremo en la
clavija “LINE” situada en la parte trasera del Clip 160 (2).
• Conecte uno de los extremos del cable suministrado con
el teléfono al teléfono y el otro extremo en la clavija
“PHONE” situada en la parte trasera del Clip 160 (3).
Nota: Las palabras ‘LINE’, ‘PHONE’ y la información sobre el
adaptador se mencionan en la parte inferior del Clip 160.
