1. Preparation
Congratulations on your purchase of the Sophos Firewall Manager (SFM) device.
This Quick Start Guide describes in short steps how to assemble the SFM device
and explains how to open the web-based Admin Console on the device from your
administration client PC. The Admin Console allows you to configure every aspect of
the security system.
What does the box include
Registration and License Activation
Browse to the MySophos portal at www.sophos.com/mysophos, create an account
and register your SFM device.. You can then apply additional support subscriptions
which you have purchased for your device.

2. Mount and connect the device
Connect the SFM device to the network and administration PC.
1. Connect your administration PC to Ethernet Port 1 of the SFM device
by using the RJ45 Ethernet cable supplied with your device.
2. Connect Port 2 of the SFM device via a hub or switch to your internal network
(LAN) from where all of your firewall devices are accessible to the SFM.
The SFM devices are shipped with the following default settings:

Mount the device to the rack
Please follow the rack mounting instructions as described in the SFM Operating
Instructions.*

3. Power it on
Connect the device to the power socket and turn it on
Connect the device to the power socket using the power cable(s) from the scope of
supply. Turn the SFM device on. The power switch is on the back side of the housing
next to the power supply plug.
4. Configure the device
Use your browser to make the initial connection to the Admin Console GUI
You will need to configure your administration PC with the necessary LAN properties
as shown on the left to access the Admin Console. The location of the menu for these
settings depends on the operating system of your client
Example: With Windows 7, the menu can be found under Start >> Control Panel >>
Network and Sharing Center
Start the browser and enter the management IP address of the SFM device:
http://172.16.16.16
Logon to the SFM Admin Console using default username ‘admin’ and password ‘admin’.
For initial configuration of the SFM device, you should first change the interface(s) IP
address(es), default gateway, DNS settings and Date/Time Zone to match your local
network settings.
