About This Remote Commander

This Remote Commander can operate any of the following video components. If you’re using this Commander with a Sony brand TV and a Sony brand VHS VCR, you won’t need to preset the Commander before you start using it. However, you will need to set up the Commander if it cannot operate even a Sony brand component and you have a cable box. Each component is assigned a different button on the Commander:

If You Do Not Have Sony Components...

You’ll need to follow the instructions in this manual to preset the Remote Commander with the correct code numbers for each of your components.

Step 1: Entering the Code Number

Press the POWER button while pressing the

2 Press the button of the component that you

want to set up.

3 Refer to “Component Code Numbers” and find

the two-digit code number for your component. If more than one code number is listed, use the

number that’s listed first to complete the steps that follow.

For example, if you’re setting up a Philips VCR, you would use code number 13.

4 Enter the component’s code number.

For example, if you’re entering the code for a Philips VCR, you would press and release 1, then press and release 3.

Works” to finish setting up.

If you press a wrong button in step 4

Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works

Power on the component you want to set up

using the component's power switch.

2 Aim the Remote Commander at the component

and press the POWER button. The component should power off.

3 When the component powers off, check that the

Commander is operating the other functions of your component, such as channel and volume control.

If the Commander Doesn’t Seem to Be Working...

•First, try repeating these setup procedures using the other codes listed for your component.

•If – after trying all the codes listed for your component – you still cannot get the Commander to work properly, try the search method described under “Searching for the Correct Code”.

•If you still cannot get the Commander to work properly, see “Troubleshooting”.

If the Commander Seems to Be Working Properly...

•You’re finished setting up the Commander for this component.

•If you’re setting up more than one component (or a TV/VCR combination), you’ll need to complete these procedures for each component you plan to use with the Commander.

•Use the label (supplied) to write down the code numbers of your components. Then affix the label to the back of the Commander.

Searching for the Correct Code

If you’ve tried all the code numbers listed for your component and you still cannot get the Commander to work, try these steps.

1 Using the component’s original remote control

(or the power switch on the component itself), power on/off the component. Turn the power of the TV or cable box on and the VCR off.

2 Press the POWER button while pressing the

SLEEP button.

3 Press the button of the component on the

Commander that you want to set up.

4 Press and release the CH + button. Then press

and release the POWER button.

5 Repeat step 4 until your component powers on/

off. Pressing CH + and POWER repeatedly will try every available code until the correct one is found. Be patient as you do this; it may take 40 or 50 tries until the correct code number is located.

6 When the power of the TV or cable box goes off

or the power of the VCR comes on, press and release the ENT (Enter) button to store the code number in the Commander’s memory.

7 Check that the Commander is operating the

other functions of your component. Press the channel and volume control buttons. If it seems to be working properly, you’re done setting up the Commander.

If you still cannot get the Commander to work properly, see “Troubleshooting”.

Notes on Using the Remote Commander

•Using this Commander will not increase the functions of your TV, VCR or cable box. The functions of the Commander are limited to the functions of the components themselves. For example, if your TV does not have a Recall function, the RECALL button on this Commander will not function with your TV.

•If your cable box can control volume, be sure to set its volume switch to a medium position. If the volume on the cable box is turned down completely, you will not be able to adjust your TV’s volume with the Commander.

Replacing the Lithium Battery

If the Remote Commander does not operate properly, the lithium battery may be worn out. Replace the lithium battery with a Sony CR2032 lithium battery.

Note

If you take time to insert the lithium battery or press the buttons when replacing the lithium battery, the code numbers that you entered will be erased.

Notes on lithium battery

•Keep the lithium battery out of the reach of children. Should the battery be swallowed, immediately consult a doctor.

•Wipe the battery with a dry cloth to assure a good contact.

•Be sure to install the battery with the correct polarity.

•Do not hold the battery with metallic tweezers as doing so may cause a short-circuit.

•Use of other batteries than the CR2032 may cause a risk of fire or explosion.

Battery may explode if mistreated. Do not recharge, disassemble or dispose of in fire.

Troubleshooting

If you’re having problems setting up or using the Remote Commander:

•When setting up the Commander, carefully go through the procedures described under “Setting Up the Commander”. If the code that’s listed first for your component doesn’t work, try all the codes listed for your component – in the order in which they’re listed. If all the codes fail to work (or if your component is not listed in this manual), try using the procedures under “Searching for the Correct Code”.

•When setting up the component, if you press the wrong button, press and the POWER button while pressing the SLEEP button. Then enter the correct code number again.

•Check that you’re aiming the Commander directly at the component, and that there are no obstructions between the Commander and the component.

•Make sure the battery you’re using is not worn out, and that it is inserted correctly. Note that whenever you remove the battery – to replace it, for example – the preset codes are erased from memory and must be reset.

•Check that the component has infrared remote capability. For example, if your component didn’t come with a remote, it probably isn’t capable of being controlled by a Remote Commander.

A propos de la télécommande

La télécommande sert à faire fonctionner les appareils vidéo suivants. Si vous utilisez la télécommande avec un téléviseur ou magnétoscope VHS Sony, vous n’avez pas besoin de prérégler la télécommande avant de l’utiliser. Vous devrez toutefois la régler si elle ne parvient pas à faire fonctionner un appareil Sony et si vous avez un décodeur. A chaque appareil correspond une touche de la télécommande.

3 Si l’appareil s’éteint, vérifiez que la

télécommande active les autres fonctions de l’appareil, en particulier le sélecteur de chaîne et le réglage de volume.

Si la télécommande ne semble pas fonctionner...

•Essayez d’abord les autres codes de la liste indiqués pour votre appareil.

•Si, après avoir essayé tous les codes indiqués pour votre appareil, la télécommande ne fonctionne toujours pas correctement, essayez la méthode de recherche décrite dans “Recherche du code correct”.

•Si vous ne parvenez toujours pas à faire fonctionner l’appareil avec la télécommande, reportez-vous à “En cas de problèmes”.

Si la télécommande semble fonctionner...

•Le préréglage est terminé pour cet appareil.

•Si vous préréglez plus d’un appareil (ou un combiné téléviseur/magnétoscope), vous devez effectuer ces opérations pour chaque appareil que vous voulez utiliser avec la télécommande.

•Utilisez l’étiquette fournie pour inscrire les codes de vos appareils. Collez ensuite l’étiquette derrière la télécommande.

Recherche du code correct

Si vous avez essayé tous les codes indiqués pour votre appareil et que la télécommande ne fonctionne toujours pas, effectuez les opérations suivantes.

1 Utilisez la télécommande de l’appareil (ou

l’interrupteur d’alimentation de l’appareil) que vous voulez prérégler pour le mettre sous et hors tension. Allumez le téléviseur ou le décodeur et éteignez le magnétoscope.

2 Appuyez sur la touche POWER tout en tenant la

touche SLEEP enfoncée.

3 Appuyez sur la touche de la télécommande

correspondant à l’appareil que vous voulez prérégler.

4 Appuyez brièvement sur la touche CH+, puis

sur la touche POWER.

5 Répétez l’étape 4 jusqu’à ce que votre appareil

se mette sous et hors tension. En appuyant de façon répétée sur CH+ et POWER, vous pouvez essayer tous les codes disponibles jusqu’à ce que vous trouviez le bon. Soyez patient, car vous devrez peut-être faire 50 essais avant de trouver le bon code.

6 Quand le téléviseur ou décodeur se met hors

tension, ou que le magnétoscope se met sous tension, appuyez brièvement sur la touche ENT (validation) pour enregistrer le code dans la mémoire de la télécommande.

7 Vérifiez si la télécommande permet d’utiliser les

autres fonctions de l’appareil. Appuyez sur le sélecteur de chaîne et les touches de volume. Si la télécommande semble fonctionner correctement, le préréglage est terminé.

Si la télécommande ne fonctionne toujours pas normalement, voir “En cas de problèmes”.

Utilisation de la télécommande

Remarque: Dans certains cas, il est possible de mettre le décodeur sous et hors tension par la touche CH+ ou CH- de la télécommande.

Remarques sur l’utilisation de la télécommande

•L’utilisation de la télécommande n’augmente pas les fonctions du téléviseur, magnétoscope ou décodeur. Les fonctions de la télécommande sont limitées à celles des appareils. Par exemple, si un téléviseur n’a pas de fonction de rappel de la dernière chaîne, la touche RECALL de la télévision n’aura aucun effet sur votre téléviseur.

•Si votre décodeur peut contrôler le volume, veillez à le régler sur la position médiane. Si le volume du décodeur est complètement réduit, vous ne pourrez pas ajuster le volume du téléviseur avec la télécommande.

Remplacement de la pile au lithium

Remarques sur la pile au lithium

•Rangez la pile au lithium hors de portée des enfants. En cas d’ingestion, consultez immédiatement un médecin.

•Essuyez la pile avec un chiffon sec pour assurer un bon contact.

•Veillez à installer la pile dans le bon sens.

•Ne pas tenir la pile avec une pince métallique, car vous risquez de la court-circuitez.

•L”utilisation d’autres piles que la CR2032 peut causer un incendie ou une explosion.

La pile peut exploser en cas de mauvaise manipulation. Ne pas la recharger, ouvrir ou jeter au feu.

En cas de problèmes

Si vous ne parvenez pas à prérégler votre appareil ou à utiliser la télécommande:

•Quand vous préréglez la télécommande, effectuez soigneusement toutes les opérations décrites dans “Préréglage de la télécommande”. Si le premier code de la liste, correspondant à votre appareil, ne fonctionne pas, essayez tous les codes indiqués pour votre appareil - dans l’ordre dans lequel ils sont indiqués. Si aucun de ces codes ne fonctionne (ou si votre appareil n’est pas indiqué dans le mode d’emploi), essayez d’effectuer les opérations décrites dans “Recherche du code correct”.

•Pendant le préréglage de la télécommande, si vous appuyez sur une mauvaise touche, appuyez sur la touche POWER tout en tenant la touche SLEEP enfoncée. Entrez ensuite le code correct.

•Vérifiez si vous dirigez bien la télécommande vers l’appareil et s’il n’y a aucun obstacle entre la télécommande et l’appareil.

•Assurez-vous que la pile de la télécommande n’est pas usée ou qu’elle n’est pas mal insérée. Notez que lorsque vous enlevez la pile pour la remplacer, par exemple, les codes préréglés sont effacés et doivent être reprogrammés.

•Vérifiez si votre appareil peut bien être commandé par une télécommande infrarouge. Par exemple, si votre appareil n’avait pas de télécommande lors de l’achat, il ne peut probablement pas être piloté par une télécommande.
