Playing a CD in a car

You can play a CD in a car, using your Discman on car battery. You can also use it on house current, rechargeable battery and dry batteries (see "Power sources" on the reverse side.)

Notes on display
• When you press Wl (when RESUMÍ set to OFF), the total number of track the CD and the total playing time api for about 2 seconds.
• During play, the track number and th elapsed playing time of the current tr appear.
• During pause, the elapsed playing tii flashes in the display.
• Between tracks, the time to the bcgini of the next track will appear with the indication.
Uluminatlon of the display and the buttons on the main unit
When using the unit on the AC power adaptor or car battery, the display and buttons are illuminated during play so you can check the display and the locat of the buttons easily. The display and the buttons are also illuminated for about one minute in lh< following cases:
• When you connccl the AC pt>wer adaptor or car battery cord
• When you open the lid of the unit
• When you stop play by pres-sing ■
• When the CD fihishes playing.
If you want to turn off ffw illumirtation right away, press ■.
Note on Illumination
When using the' unit on the AC power adaptor, illumination of the display ano the buttons may become dim during AN operation, etc., but this is rwt a malfunction of the unit.
Notes on handling CDs
• To keep the CD clean, handle it by its edge. Do not touch the surface.
• Do not stick paper or tape onto the Cl
• Do not expose the CD to direct sunligl or heat sources such as hot air ducts i not leave the CD in a car parki^l unde direcl sunlight.

To cancel resume play, set RESUME to OFF
Motes
• Even if RESUME is act to CM, playing starts from the beginning when you open the Ud.
• The resume point may be inaccurate by about 30 seconds.
To turn off tha baap
You can turn off the beep that sounds as yot. operate your Discman.
Disconnect the power source (AC power adaptor, rechaigeeUe battery or alkaline batteries). While you press aiKl hold down ■ conrtect the power source again. To make th< beep sound agaiiv, disconrtect the power source, aitd then connect it without pressing
Connecting to other stereo equipment
You can listen to the CD duough other stereo
equipment ot record a CD on a caiaette tap>e. Refer to the matniction manual of dw other equipment for details. Before making coiu>ecti<ms, turn off each piece of equipment.

• Playing may stop when the Discman gets a strong shock even %vith the ESP function on.
• You may hear a noise or sound skip when: — listening to a dirty or scratched CD. — listening to an audio test CD or, — the Discman receives continuous shock.
• Sound may drop tor a while if you press ESP during play.
To lock tho bifttons
You can lock your Oiacman against any accidental operations.
Slide HOLD in dte direction of the arrow. The buttons are locked. When you press any button, "Hof d" appears in dw display.
To unlock, slide HOLD back.
To pratoct your hoarlng (AVLS)
The AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) fuiKtim keeps down the maximum volume to protect your ears.
