the valve to the 3" or 4" Sch. 40 drain line on the
downstream side of the fi xture(s) to be protected.
2. Measure and cut a piece of 6" Sch. 40 pipe
to bring the access point to the desired level
(note length of Extension Pipe). Solvent weld the
Upper and Lower Adapters on each end of this
Extension Pipe. Thread the Lower Adapter (with
o-ring) into the top of the Valve Body and tighten.
Measure and cut a piece of 1½" Sch. 40 pipe to
be 1⅝" longer than the Extension Pipe. Solvent
weld this Handle into the socket on the top of
the Carrier.
3. Allow the Handle-to-Carrier joint to cure, and
be sure the Flapper is installed on the Carrier
properly (Flapper swings freely, sealing sur face
faces upstream, etc.). Using the Handle, lower
the Carrier/Flapper through the Extension Pipe
and into the Valve Body. The carrier is installed
correctly when it sets fl at /level in the valve body,
and will not rotate without being raised.
TIP: The Carrier uses different-sized lugs on
each side to orient itself correctly in the valve
body. If the carrier seems diffi cult to orient, or
won’t set properly, be sure the fl ow arrows on the
carrier point downstream.
4. Install the Valve Lid (with o-ring) into the
Upper Adapter and tighten.
To access the Flapper after installation*:
Remove the Threaded Lid. Using the Handle,
carefully pull the Carrier/Flapper through the
Extension Pipe. Regularly inspect the Carrier
and Flapper for debris, buildup, or any damage
that would prevent proper function and replace
if necessary. After inspection or maintenance,
replace the Carrier/Flapper and reinstall the
Threaded Lid.
Note: Harmful bacteria are present in sewer lines.

Be sure to take necessary sanitary precautions
when inspecting installed backwater valves.
