1 INTRODUCTION
The AR68 and the AR77 has been designed to accept a variety of digital inputs that are sensed when first switching on the repeater.
The repeater accepts serial data (RS422). The D-type connector has pins allocated for power and serial data.
The serial input is configured to recognize NMEA 0183 HDT, HDG and HDM sentence structures in priority order.

3 OPERATION
3.1. Dimmer button
One single rotary button is used for adjusting the background illumination on the AR68 and AR77 panels. Rotating the button in a clockwise direction will increase the light intensity, while the light intensity will be decreased when the button is turned counter-clockwise.

3.2. Defining input signal
Both AR68 and AR77 have been designed to accept a variety of digital input signals. When the cable is connected to the repeater, it will automatically sense which digital signal that is present. The following priority is used when defining the signal:
True heading (HDT)
Heading & Variation format (HDG)
Old Heading format (HDM)
If the signal is invalid or missing after 1 second, the repeater will indicate this by flashing illumination and by rotating the dial back and forth +/-35° around the last known heading.
If the defined input signal is lost, the power must be switched off and on again. If the cable not is connected via an external switch, the cable must be disconnecting and reconnected again to define a new input signal.

4 INSTALLATION
4.1. General information
Care should be taken when unpacking and handling the equipment. A visual inspection should be made to see that the equipment has not been damaged during shipment and that all components and parts are present.
4.2. Location of the unit
The analog repeater should be mounted where it is most convenient for the user, and with regard to the unit’s environmental protection and temperature range. The unit should not be installed in area exposed to heavy vibrations.
Make allowances for working area around the unit when routing or removing the cable.
4.3. Mechanical installation
Refer dimensional drawings on page 8 and page 9.

Panel mounting
Vishey Sfe rnic e PE30 Se rie s 2K2 3 Wa tt
1. Cut a hole in the panel where the AR68/AR77 is to be
fitted. For panel cut-out dimensions, refer to drawings on page 8 and page 9.
2. Locate the unit in the hole.
3. Use the enclosed mounting bracket, studs and wing nuts to
clamp the unit firmly in the panel as shown on the figure.
4.4. Electrical installation
Caution! Any voltage supplies other than those stipulated in the product
specification may cause damage to the repeater.
The AR68/AR77 is designed to run on 24VDC and accepts a digital data RS422 signal.
The incoming cable to the repeater has a 15 pin female D-type connector. The cable is supplied pre-wired with a 2.5 m length of six connector screened cables, to which the ship’s cable is connected.
Note! It is recommended to connect the AR68/AR77 via an external
switch for the possibility to reset the unit.
The following table indicates the function of all cores and their identification.

4.5. Commissioning
Perform the following tests when commissioning each repeater:
1. Ensure that the preceding installation and electrical
connection has been completed successfully.
2. Connect the cable to the AR68/AR77. The repeater will
automatically sense which digital signal that is present.
3. The repeater will align itself to zero and then to the
transmitted gyro heading.
4. Ensure that the lighting is set to a suitable level. Adjust if
necessary with the dimmer button.

5 FAULT FINDING
Note! The AR68/AR77 is a sealed unit, and breakage of the security
seal will invalidate the warranty.
If trouble is encountered, make preliminary checks as described below. If the problems remain unsolved, contact your nearest Simrad dealer for assistance.
Symptom Probable fault Remedy
AR68/AR77 does not operate.
No power or miswired power connection.
Check incoming power supply.
The repeater aligns itself to zero and does not respond to heading input.
The dial rotates +/- 35°.
The digital signal to the repeater is either not present or the sentence being sent is incorrect or has wrong polarity.
Switch the unit off and on again.
Lighting not visible Damage to internal LED.
Damage to internal PCB.
