STOPPING
To stop the motor, simply depress the stop switch until the motor comes to a complete stop. Fig 13
ADJUSTING TRIMMING LINE LENGTH
Your trimmer is equipped with a Bump Feed Cutting Head that allows the operator to release more trimming line without stopping the motor. To release additional line, lightly tap the trimming head on the ground while operating the trimmer at high speed. Fig 14 If excess line is released, a blade in the guard will automatically cut the line to the proper length. Fig 15 NOTE: Always keep the trimming line fully extended. Line release becomes more difficult as cutting line becomes shorter.
CAUTION: Do not remove or alter the line cutting blade on the guard. Excessive line length will cause clutch to overheat and may result in serious personal injury.
REPLACING EXHAUSTED CUTTING LINE
Remove bump head knob by turning anticlockwise. Remove spool and spring from spindle. Fig 16.
Cut 2 x 2.2m lengths of cutting line and insert one end of each line into the two spool holes as illustrated in Fig 17.
Wind cutting lines clockwise as illustrated in Fig 18, with each line separated by the spool divider. Wind to within 15 cm of the end of the line.
Lock each end of the cutting line into the slots on opposite sides of the spool as illustrated in Fig 19

Install the spring over the spindle. Insert each end of the cutting line through the eyelets in the cutting head assembly and lower the spool while feeding the line as illustrated in Fig 20.
Once the spool is in place, apply pressure on the spool compressing the spring. Pull each end of the line sharply to unlock the line from the slots. Continue to apply pressure to the spool until the knob can be threaded clockwise onto the spindle. Tighten the knob securely. Fig 21.
QUICK FIT SYSTEM
Your Ryobi trimmer is equipped with a Quick Fit System, which enables optional attachments to be connected to your trimmer. Ask your Ryobi retailer for a list of available optional att achments. To replace the cutting head with an optional attachment, loosen the knob anticlockwise. Fig 22 Depress the release button and remove the cutting head shaft. Fig 23 Depress release button, and insert shaft of optional add on attachment. Fig 24 When the shaft clicks into place, tighten the knob.
AIR FILTER It is recommended that the air filter is cleaned on a regular basis. To clean the air filter, depress the air filter cover latch and remove the cover. Fig 25. Remove and wash the filter with soap and water. Allow to completely air dry before replacing the filter. After replacing the filter secure the air filter cover.
Fig 25
STORAGE If the trimmer will be stored for an extended period of time, use the following storage procedure:
1. Drain all fuel from the fuel tank into a container.
2. Start the motor and allow it to run until it stalls. This
ensures that all the fuel has been drained from the carburetor .
3. Allow the motor to cool. Remove the spark plug and put approximately 30ml of any high quality oil or 2 stroke oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter rope slowly to distribute the oil. Reinstall the spark plug. Leave the spark plug wire off for storage.
4. Inspect for any damaged or loose parts. Repair or replace any damaged parts and tighten loose screws, nuts or bolts.
