Do not immerse the base, cord or body in water or any other liquid. To remove any dust that may have accumulated in the removable parts during packing, fill to max, boil, discard the water, and then rinse again with clean water.
POSITION
Position the power base on a stable, level surface, close to an electrical power supply. Route the mains lead so that it doesn’t overhang, and can’t be caught accidentally or tripped over. Wind any excess mains lead round the cord storage area beneath the power base and bring it out of the cord exit in the side of the base and away from the reach of children.

SWITCHING ON
To start with, make sure the kettle switch is in the OFF position. Plug the stand into the wall socket. If necessary, switch the wall socket to the ‘ON’ position. Gently position the kettle on the stand – take care not to spill. Press the ‘ON/OFF’ switch down. The light in the switch will come on, and the kettle will start heating up.
SWITCHING OFF
When the water boils the kettle will switch off, the switch will return to the off position, and the light will go out. To switch off manually, simply press the ‘ON/OFF’ switch up.
GENERAL DETAILS
Remove the kettle from the stand before pouring. To avoid the risk of splashing, pour slowly and don’t over-tilt the kettle. Don’t tilt the kettle backwards, water might get on to the control area. If this happens, let the kettle dry before use – sit it somewhere dry & warm for about 12 hours. When you lift the kettle, you may see moisture on the stand. Don’t worry – it’s the steam used to switch off automatically, which then condenses and escapes via vents under the kettle.
INSUFFICIENT WATER
This will shorten the life of the element. A boil-dry cut-out will switch the kettle off. Remove the kettle from its stand, and sit it on the work surface until it is cold. Don’t fill it unless it’s cold – if the element is still hot, it may splash water, which could be a potential hazard.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
Switch the kettle off by pressing the ‘ON/OFF’ - switch in the up direction. Unplug the stand from the wall socket and let the kettle cool down fully before cleaning. Wipe the kettle, inside and out, with a damp cloth. Then buff with a soft dry cloth. Keep all connectors and sockets dry.

DESCALE REGULARLY – EVEN IN ‘SOFT’ WATER AREAS
Should descaling be necessary, remove the BRITA MAXTRA filter cartridge before descaling. After the descaling process put the BRITA MAXTRA filter cartridge back into the thoroughly cleaned kettle.
Limescale may be white, coloured, even rusty-looking, but is usually visible.
Phosphate scale isn’t generally visible, but it is there, even in soft water areas.
All scale causes overheating, reduces the kettle’s life, and may trigger the boil-dry cut-out so even with soft water, de-scale regularly, to help keep your kettle in working order for longer. Use a descaler suitable for plastic products (all kettles have plastic parts). Follow the instructions on the de-scaler, then fill and operate with clean water only, to remove any residues. Do not use or drink the water which was used to de-scale the kettle with.
