INTRODUCTION
Your RadioShack FRS-101 is a lightweight, palm-sized radio that you can carry almost any­where. Use it at shopping malls, amusement parks, or sports events to contact family and friends, or in a neighbor hood watch for vital com­munications.
You can talk with another person who has an FRS radio set to the same MHz, FRS Channel 1) as your FRS-101.
Your radio has won’t hear anything on the channel unless some­one is transmitting nearby on t he same channel. But, you can turn off auto-squelch to hear weak­er, distant transmissions (see Pages 4–5).

INSTALLING BATTERIES
Your radio uses fo ur AA batteries for power . We recommend alkaline batteries (such as Ra­dioShack Cat. No. 23-552).
Note:
You can also use rechargeable batteries
(such as Cat. No. 23-125) in the radio. Be sure the radio is off, then pull down t he tab at
the bottom of the battery compartment. Lift up the bottom of the cov er to remove it.
Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) insi de t he compa rtment. Then replace the cove r and push the tab onto the cov­er to la tch it.
