New Features and Enhancements 0
Scalar i500® i4 (520G.GS003) firmware includes the following new features and enhancements:
Library Diagnostics – The library now contains a Diagnostics menu which allows administrative users to perform tests, some of which were formerly only available to Service. These tests include drive diagnostics, robotics diagnostics, and Q-EKM Path Diagnostics (if Q-EKM is a licensed feature on your library). To access the Diagnostics menu, select
Tools > Diagnostics.
Capacity on Demand (COD) Slot Count Increase – The number of pre-activated
slots has increased by 5 slots.
Robot Identification – The library firmware functions with Model 1 and Model 2 robots. It identifies which robot is installed and bases functionality upon this identification.
Ethernet Port Settings - A new setting has been added to the operator panel. The
Setup > Network Mgmt > Port settings function allows you to configure the
autonegotiate mode, speed, and duplex parameters on the Ethernet port.
Firmware Notes 0
The following are important items that you may notice that are not covered in the
Known Issues section of this document.
Downgrading Library Firmware—If a library is running firmware version 420G or higher, the following restrictions on downgrading apply:
If your library is Quantum branded, you can downgrade to firmware
version 400G or higher. (There is no lower version of Quantum-branded firmware.)
2 Purpose
If your library is ADIC branded and has Fibre-Channel I/O blades installed,
you can downgrade to firmware version 400G or higher. You cannot downgrade to a lower version than 400G.

SAS Host Bus Adapter and Host Bus Adapter Drivers—SAS host bus adapter and drivers (combined) must support SAS standard 1.1 or higher.
Library Service Utility—You must run the Library Service Utility prior to upgrading firmware if you are currently running firmware version 320G.GS004 or 400G.GS006.
Firmware Update Tape Functionality—This feature was removed in version SP4 in order to simplify the firmware update process and prevent errors. This includes creating and erasing firmware update tapes, and updating drive firmware via a firmware update tape.
Inventory Operations —Do not perform user interface operations (for example, working with RAS tickets, creating/modifying/deleting partitions) while the library is performing an inventory.
Closing the Internet Browser — Log out of the library before closing the Internet browser window when you are using the web client. If you do not log out, the session will remain open.
Internet Explorer 7 Security Message—Internet Explorer version 7 displays an informational message stating that the certificate issued by the library is not from a trusted source. This is normal behavior and does not affect library function. The library issues certificates based on local network data and is not a typical Web site that would be issued a certificate by a trusted source for public access via SSL. Accept the warning and continue.
Library SNMP Support — The library supports SNMP v1, v2c, and v3. SNMP traps are only reported in v1 as defined by RFC 1157. The timeout for all SNMP requests to the library must be at 10 seconds or greater (command line parameter
-t).
Kerberos Limitation Issue — When setting up the library to use Kerberos remote authentication, an error is generated if you try to use the IPv6 address for the
KDC (AD Server) field. Instead of using the IPv6 address, use the fully
qualified domain name (FQDN).

(
Reports > Library Configuration)
identifies HP LTO-4 Fibre Channel and SAS drives as HP LTO-4 SCSI drives.
HP drives with tapes loaded in them, you may receive RAS ticket T022 (sled lost communication with drive). The LED of the drive sled containing the loaded HP drive is illuminated, and the library reports the drive is present, but the loaded HP drive is not available.
using application-managed cleaning (not library-managed cleaning), cleaning cartridges that have “L1” on the barcode label are not mounted into the tape drive.
The Reports > Library Configuration screen lists the native device identifier as reported by the tape drive. HP tape drives always report SCSI as the native device identifier, even if they are Fibre Channel or SAS. This is not expected to change. All other pages list the drive interface from the barcode label, so they are listed correctly.
Prior to upgrading library firmware, make sure all your HP tape drives are unloaded.
When cleaning an LTO-4 tape drive using application-managed cleaning, use a universal cleaning cartridge that does not have “L1” on the barcode label. If the barcode label contains “L1”, the cleaning operation will be rejected.
19299 If you set the time and the time zone at
the same time, the actual time reported by the library may be incorrect (it may be an hour off from the actual time).
6 Known Issues
Reset the time again (without resetting the time zone).

Description Workaround
Unreadable cartridge barcode labels can restart the library during a move. This problem occurs when a tape cartridge in the library has a barcode label that is unreadable (smudged, scraped, upside-down in top slot of library, etc.) but the library previously recognized the cartridge, either through a successful scan, a touch teach, or the drive reported the cartridge. The library restarts after completing the move but before notification that the move complete is returned to the host application. This
Make sure your cartridge barcode labels are readable. Make sure barcode labels are right-side up in the top slots of the library. Make sure your scratch cartridge barcode label is readable when running demo or diagnostics tests.
If the problem occurs, perform a “move media“command from the web client or operator panel to move the cartridge from the last destination slot to the I/E station. Replace the barcode label on the cartridge and import the cartridge back into the library.
may occur in the following circumstances:
• The tape cartridge is moved into a tape drive;
• The tape cartridge is moved to a storage cell of a partition where there are less than two empty slots in the storage area; or
• The cartridge is moved to the I/E station(s) where there are less than two empty slots.
20618 Tapes that were assigned to a partition
were in the I/E station during a firmware upgrade and lost their partition assignment.
20631 881498 Not all I/E station slots are available to
all partitions. Tapes in these slots and assigned to a partition are seen by the library but may or may not be seen by the partition.
Make sure the I/E station is empty before performing a library firmware upgrade.
Make sure the I/E station is empty before performing a library firmware upgrade. To recover from t his error, empty the I/E stations, change the number of I/E stations, then reset the number of I/E stations back to the number you want.
