PreSonus Limited Warranty
PreSonus Audio Electronics Inc. warrants this pro du ct to be free of defects in mater ial a nd workmanshi p for a period of one year from the date of original retail purchase. This warranty is enforceable only by the original retail purchaser. To be protected by this warranty, the purchaser must complete and return the enclosed warranty card within 14 days of pu rchase. During the warranty period PreSonu s shall, at its sole and absolute option, either, repair or replace, free of charge, any product that proves to be defective on inspection by PreSonus or its authorized service representative. To obtain warranty service, the purchaser must first call or write PreSonus at the address and telephone number printed below to obtain a Return Authorization Number and instructions of where to return the unit for service. All inquiries must be accompanied by a description of th e problem. All authorized retur ns must be sent to the PreSonus repair facility postage prepaid, in sured and properly packaged. PreSonus r eserves the right to update any unit returned for repair. PreSonus reser ves the right to change or im prove the design o f the product at any tim e without prior notice. This warranty does not co ver claims for damage due to abuse, neglect, alteration or attempted repair by unauthorized personnel, and is limited to failures arising during normal use that are due to defects in material or workmanship in the product. Any implied warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a par ticular purpose, are limited in duration to the length of this limited warranty. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you. In no event will PreSonus be liabl e for incidental, consequentia l or other damages resulting from the breach of any express or implied warranty, including, among other things, damage to property, damage based on inconveni ence or on loss of use of the product, and, to the extent permitted by law, damages for personal injury. Some states do not allow the exclusion of limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state. This warranty only applies to products sold and used in the United States of America. For warranty information in all other countries please refer to your local distributor.

1 OVERVIEW
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing t he PreSo nus V-FIR E. Pre Sonus A udio Elec tronics h as desig ned the V-FIRE utilizing high-grade components to insure optimum performance that will last a lifetime. The V-FIRE is a 24 bit/96k R-BUS to FireWire computer recording system for both Windows XP and Apple OSX . The V-FIRE allows users to convert Roland’s R-BUS digital audio format to FireWire ( IEEE 1394), thus providing a multi-channel computer interface for most Roland products equipped with R-BUS output.
The V-Fire features two R-BUS por ts and two FireWire ports allowing sixteen channels of digital audio to stream at up 24- bit 96K sample rate. The V-FI RE has LED indicators f or R­BUS1, R-BUS 2 and master sync.
The V-FIRE is accessed via a software control panel enabling the user to select the sample rate(44.1K,48K,88.2K and 96K), latency, buffer size an d clock source.
We suggest that you use this manual to familiarize yourself with the features, applications and correct connection procedure for your V-FIRE before trying to connect it to your computer. This will hopefully alleviate any unforeseen issues that you may encounter during installation and set up.

1.3 BACK AND TOP PANEL LAYOUT Back Panel
Your V-FIRE is equipped wit h two R-BUS por ts and two six pi n FireWire ports . There is also an input for an optional 12VDC or 16VAC power supply. Typically the V-Fire receives its power from the computer via the FireWire BUS. If you are using your V-FIRE with a computer that only has a fo ur pin FireWire p ort, such as most PC l aptops, then you w ill need to use the optional external power supply.

Top Panel
The top panel of the V-FIRE has stat us LE Ds for the pres enc e of d at a on R -B US 1 and R-B US 2 as well as the LED indicating sync. Proper driver sync prevents digital interfaces from ha ving pops, clicks, or distortion in the audio signal. The Sync LED will alternately flash blue and red when looking for sync. When sync is achieved the LED is a steady blue.

2.1 COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS
Below are the required computer system specs for your V-FIRE:
Windows
- OS: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pac k 1 or later
- Computer: Windows compatible computer with 1394 port (PCI or built-in)
- CPU/Clock: Pentium, 1.6MHz or higher
- Memory (RAM): 512 MB (1GB recommended)
Macintosh
- OS: Mac OSX 10.3.7 or later
- Computer: Apple Macintosh series with 1394 port (PCI or built-in).
- CPU/Clock: PowerPC G4/1.2Mhz or higher, all Intel/Mac models
- Memory(RAM): 512 MB (1GB recommended)
Note that the speed of your processor, amount of RAM and size and speed of your hard drive will greatly affect the overall performance of your recording system.

2 INSTALLATION
2.2 Installation
PC:
The following is a detailed procedure for installation of your V-FIRE D rivers: *YOU MUST INSTALL DRIVERS BEFORE CONNECTING YOUR V-FIRE*
1.) Quit all currently running applications.
2.) Insert the Driver CD included w ith your V-FIRE into your comp uter. (Do not co nnect your V-FIRE to the computer at this time).
3.) CD should auto run.* (If not, navigate to CD and double click on V-FIRE_Installer.exe) *There are several parts to the installation of
your V-FIRE. The installer will take you through each step. Please read each message carefully as the time at which you connect and power on your V-FIRE for the first time is critical to a successful installation.
*If at any point during installatio n a “Software Installation” message appears from Windows regarding Windows Logo testing click “Continue Anyway” to continue installation.
