• Charging the Batteries
A plug-in standard charger is bundled with PDC5355 for charging 2 or 4 pieces AA / AAA Ni-Cd / Ni-MH batteries. Its portable design is convenient for travel and business trip. The charger has two kinds of slots, the upper one for AA batteries and the lower one for AAA batteries. After purchase and before use, charge the batteries for 14 hours and 3-11 hours for subsequent chargings. Subject to the type of batteries. (see page 11 for details)

Install the batteries:
1. Press the negative-polarity end of the battery down onto the spring.
2. Push the positive-polarity end of the battery down into the slot.
3. Ensure the +/- signs are strictly followed.
Removing the batteries:
1. Push the negative-polarity end of the battery towards the spring.
2. Pull the positive-polarity end of battery upwards and out of the battery slot.

Charging the batteries:
1. Install the batteries into the battery slots.
2. Plug the charger to the household power outlet.The batteries begin charging and the Charge LED on the charger light up. The LED turns off when batteries are fully charged. Unplug the charger from the household power outlet as soon as the Charge LED turns off.

WARNING!
• For newly-used batteries, 2 to 3 times charging and discharging are required to optimize the batteries’ performance. If batteries are stored for a long period, such as over one week, always charge them before use.
• Do not short circuit batteries.
• Never charge other types of batteries, such as alkaline, rechargeable alkaline, etc, which may cause leakage or burst, causing personal injury and damage.
• For indoors use only, do not expose the charger to rain, snow or extreme conditions.
• Charge only Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) or Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries.
• Remove batteries from the charger when the charging is nished.
• Keep the kids away from the charger during charging batteries.
• Do not wet, incinerate or disassemble the charger and batteries.
• It is normal that the batteries become hot during charging.

• Installing the Batteries
Two AA-size batteries are supplied with the product. For a detailed guideline on battery usage, please see “Using Your Batteries” on page 81.
1. Open the camera battery door by pushing it outwards as illustrated.
2. Insert the batteries as shown, ensuring you follow the +/- signs correctly.
3. Close the battery door by pressing it downwards and then sliding it towards the camera to lock.
• Turning the Camera On and Off and Setting the Current Date
and Time
Fully press the Power button until the LCD screen is on. The Power LED lights up and remains on while the camera is powered on. Press the Power button again to turn off the camera.

The rst time the camera is turned on, it will directly enter the interface for setting the current date and time. Please refer to “Setting the Current Date and Time” on page 18 for further details.

• Checking the Battery Level
Check the battery power level before taking pictures.
1. Turn on the camera.
2. Check the battery power level that appears on the LCD screen.
Battery power is full.
Battery power is adequate.
Battery power is low.
Battery power is exhausted.
NOTE:
The Power LED will blink when battery power is low. Please replace the batteries.
• How to Navigate Menus
Menus are used to adjust capture and play settings, as well as other camera settings like the Date/Time and Auto Power Off.

Turn on the camera, view the camera LCD screen to check which camera settings are active. If the feature icon is not displayed, it means that particular feature is not activated.

• Camera Mode
The camera has two working modes, Capture mode and Playback mode. You can switch between them by pressing the Capture/ Playback mode button at the back of the camera.

Capture mode
Under this mode, you can select the image and video settings according to the shooting environment, and take pictures and video clips under the settings you have selected. For more details, please refer to “Taking Pictures” on page 25 and “Recording Video Clips” on page 37.
Playback mode
This mode allows the playback or deletion of pictures and video clips from the camera. For more details, please refer to “Reviewing and Managing Pictures and Video Clips” on page 40.

• Auto Power Save Settings
The camera performs the following power save operations to conserve battery power. 1/3/5 MIN The camera is designed to switch off automatically to
save battery life after the specied period of inactivity.
OFF The power save feature is not activated.
You can change the power save setting according to the following steps:
1. Set the camera to Still Image mode.
2. Access the Setup menu.
3. Press the or button to select “AUTO
OFF”.

• Auto power off is automatically disabled under any one of the following conditions.
- While an auto play is undergoing.
- While the camera’s USB port is connected to a computer or other external
devices, or while the camera is being controlled by an external device.

• The LCD screen automatically goes to hibernation after one minute of inactivity. Press any button, except the Power button, to re-activate the LCD screen.

• Setting the Beep Sound On/Off
You can turn the beep sound on and off in Capture mode. When the beep sound is turned on, the camera will beep when you press the buttons.
1. Set the camera to Still Image mode.
2. Access the Setup menu.

In order to take a better indoor picture, the camera needs to be set to suit the correct lighting frequency. Set the frequency to 60Hz for US
and 50Hz for Europe.

Use the Date Stamp to imprint the date on your pictures. Make sure the camera clock is set to the correct date before setting the date stamp on.

You can easily change all the settings you made back to the camera default settings by the following steps.
Please refer to “Camera Default Settings” on page 80 for more details.

• Formatting the Internal Memory
Formatting the internal memory deletes all data stored in it.

NOTE:
• Data deleted by a format operation cannot be recovered. Make sure you do not have any useful data currently stored in the internal memory before you format it.
• Formatting the internal memory destroys all the pictures, even those are protected.
• With a memory card inserted, the above operation would format the inserted memory card only. The internal memory will not be formatted with a memory card inserted.
• This setting is also available in Video mode.

3 Taking Pictures
Before you take pictures, please read this note rst:
IMPORTANT!
Never remove batteries while a picture is being saved. Doing so will prevent the current picture being saved and may corrupt other pictures already stored in the camera’s internal memory or on a memory card.
Outdoor Pictures Without the Flash
Avoid intense sunlight that may cause sun spots in pictures.
Always make sure that the sun or other light source is in front of
the subject.
• Taking a Picture
Taking pictures at approximately 2 feet to innity (0.6 metre to innity).
1. Turn on the camera.
2. Set the camera to Still Image mode.
3. Frame your subject using the LCD screen or the viewnder.
4. Press the shutter button halfway to set the exposure and focus. The
camera automatically detects the subject and highlights the focus mark, which it will use to determine the focus. If the focus is locked on the subject, the Auto-focus LED remains steady on and the focus mark turns green.

NOTE:
There is difculty in focusing the subject when the Auto-focus LED blinks or the red focus mark appears on the LCD screen. Release the shutter button, recompose the scene and press the shutter button halfway to reset the focus.
Focus Mark
5. Press the shutter button completely down to take a picture while
holding the camera steady. A beep will sound (if the Beep sound is turned on) when a picture is taken.
Auto Focus LED Operation:
When you see this:
Auto Focus LED blinks.
Auto Focus LED remains steady on.
It means this:
There is difculty in focusing the subject.
The camera focus is locked on the subject.
