Three steps for ergonomic ironing
1 Ergonomic board height (Fig. 1)
Set the ironing board to the correct height.When you stand the distance between your elbow and the ironing board has to be approximately 27cm.You can use the heat-resistant iron resting mat as a guide.
2 Ergonomic iron design (Fig. 2)
The upward sloping handle ensures a comfortable position of the wrist. 3 Ergonomic iron resting mat (Fig. 3)
The iron resting mat allows you to place your iron horizontally on the ironing board.
Only use the resting mat on an ironing board - never use it on a surface that is not heat resistant (Fig. 4).
Do not put the switched-on iron on the heat-resistant iron resting mat for a long period of time.
Only use the heat-resistant iron resting mat to put down the iron briefly during ironing.

Important
Read this user manual carefully before you use the appliance and save it for future reference.
Danger
-Never immerse the iron or the steam tank in water.
Warning
-Check if the voltage indicated on the type plate corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.
-Do not use the appliance if the plug, the mains cord, the supply hose or the appliance itself shows visible damage, or if the appliance has been dropped or leaks.
-If the mains cord or the supply hose is damaged, you must have it replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
-Never leave the appliance unattended when it is connected to the mains.

-This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
-Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
-Do not let the mains cord and supply hose come into contact with the hot soleplate of the iron.
-If steam escapes from under the steam tank cap when the appliance heats up, switch off the appliance and tighten the steam tank cap. If steam continues to escape when the appliance heats
up, switch off the appliance and contact a service centre authorised by Philips.
-Do not remove the steam tank cap from the steam tank when the steam tank is still under pressure.
-Do not use any other cap on the steam tank than the cap that has been supplied with the appliance, as the steam tank cap also functions as a safety valve.
-Do not put the switched-on iron on the heat-resistant iron resting mat for a long period of time. Only use the heat-resistant iron resting mat to put down the iron briefly during ironing.
Caution
-Only connect the appliance to an earthed wall socket.
-Check the mains cord and the supply hose regularly for possible damage.

The iron stand and the soleplate of the iron can become extremely hot and may cause burns if |
touched. If you want to move the steam tank, do not touch the stand.
- When you have finished ironing, when you clean the appliance, when you fill or empty the steam tank and also when you leave the iron even for a short while: put the iron on the iron stand, set the on/off switch to ‘O’ and remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
-Rinse the steam tank regularly according to the instructions in chapter ‘Cleaning and maintenance’.
-This appliance is intended for household use only.
Electromagnetic fields (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientific evidence available today.
Before first use
1Remove any sticker or protective foil from the soleplate and clean the soleplate with a soft cloth.
2Fully unwind the mains cord and supply hose.
3Place the steam tank on a stable, level surface.
4Place the iron on the iron stand.
Preparing for use
Filling the steam tank
Never immerse the steam tank in water.
Do not open the steam tank cap when the iron and the steam tank are still hot.
1Remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
2Slowly unscrew the steam tank cap (Fig. 6).

You may hear a sound when you remove the cap.This sound is caused by the vacuum or residual pressure inside the steam tank and is perfectly normal.
3 Pour water into the steam tank (max. 800ml) (Fig. 7).
Use tap water to fill the tank.
If the tap water in your area is very hard, we advise you to use 50% distilled water and 50% tap water.
Do not put perfume, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids or other chemicals in the steam tank.
4 Screw the steam tank cap tightly onto the filling opening of the steam tank.
Fast refill
1 Keep the appliance plugged into the mains and make sure the on/off switch is set to ‘I’ (Fig. 8).
2Press the steam trigger until you no longer hear any steam escaping from the appliance (Fig. 9).
3To depressurise the steam tank, keep the steam trigger pressed in and slowly unscrew the steam tank cap anticlockwise.
Place a piece of cloth over the cap when you unscrew it. Make sure there is no steam left in the steam tank.
4Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and wait approximately 15 minutes for the appliance to cool down.
5Fill the steam tank as described in section ‘Filling the steam tank’ and let the appliance heat up again.
Setting the temperature
Always place the steam tank on a stable, level and horizontal surface. Do not put the steam tank on the soft part of the ironing board.
1 Put the iron on the iron stand.
Do not put the hot iron on the supply hose or the mains cord. Make sure the cord does not come into contact with the hot soleplate.
2To set the required ironing temperature, turn the temperature dial to the appropriate position (Fig. 10).

If you do not know what kind or kinds of fabric an article is made of, determine the right ironing temperature by ironing a part that is not visible when you wear or use the article.
Silk, woollen and synthetic materials: iron the reverse side of the fabric to prevent shiny patches. Start ironing the articles that require the lowest ironing temperature, such as those made of synthetic fibres.

Note: During steam ironing, the temperature light goes on from time to time.This indicates that the iron is heating up to the set temperature.
Note: If you have been ironing at a high temperature and then set the temperature dial to a lower setting, wait until the temperature light goes on and goes out again before you continue ironing.This prevents damage to your fabrics.
Tips
-If the fabric consists of various kinds of fibres, always select the temperature required by the most delicate fibre, i.e. the lowest temperature. For example: if an article consists of 60% polyester and 40% cotton, it should be ironed at the temperature indicated for polyester ( 1) and without steam.
-When you steam iron woollen fabrics, shiny patches may occur.To prevent this, use a dry pressing cloth or turn the article inside out and iron the reverse side.
-Iron velvet and other fabrics that tend to acquire shiny patches in one direction only (along with the nap) while you apply very little pressure.
-Do not use steam when you iron coloured silk.This could cause stains.
Using the appliance
Steam ironing
1Make sure that there is enough water in the steam tank.
2Set the required ironing temperature (see chapter ‘Preparing for use’).
Note: Steam ironing is only possible at higher ironing temperatures (temperature settings 2to MAX).
3 Put the mains plug in an earthed wall socket and set the on/off switch to ‘I’.
-The power-on light in the on/off switch and the temperature light on the iron go on to indicate that the steam tank and the iron start to heat up.
4Specific types only:Select a steam setting suitable for the selected ironing temperature: (Fig. 11)
-Select steam setting l for temperature setting 2.
-Select a steam setting between l and ; for temperature settings 3to MAX.

5The steam tank and the soleplate heat up.
-Cold start: the soleplate takes approximately 2 minutes to heat up and the steam tank takes approximately 6 minutes to heat up.
-Quick reheat: if you refill the steam tank during the ironing process, the water in the steam
tank takes approximately 6 minutes to heat up.
,When the iron has reached the set temperature, the temperature light goes out.
,As soon as the water in the steam tank is ready for steam ironing:
-GC6450/GC6440: the ‘steam ready’ light goes on (Fig. 12).
Note: During steam ironing, the ‘steam ready’ light goes out from time to time.This indicates that the steam tank is heating up to the right temperature.
- GC6433/GC6430/GC6420: the power-on light in the on/off switch goes out.
6 Press the steam trigger and keep it pressed while you steam iron (Fig. 9).
Note: If you have not used the steam function for some time, the steam that was still present in the supply hose has condensed into water.When you start steam ironing again, this may cause some spluttering in the appliance and a few droplets of water may escape from the soleplate.
Note:To prevent droplets from falling onto your garments, hold the iron over an old cloth and press the steam activator until the steam production has normalised before you start steam ironing again.
Ironing without steam
1Set the required ironing temperature (see chapter ‘Preparing for use’).
2Iron without pressing the steam trigger.
,Some steam escapes if you press the steam trigger by accident while you iron.
,If the steam tank is empty or has not heated up yet, you hear a clicking sound inside the steam tank.This happens when the steam valve opens and is perfectly harmless.
Features
Vertical steam ironing
You can also steam iron when you hold the iron in vertical position.This is useful for removing creases from hanging clothes (e.g. jackets, suits and coats), curtains etc.
1 Hold the iron in vertical position and press the steam trigger (Fig. 13). Never direct the steam at people.
Variable steam (specific types only)
The steam control is continuously adjustable and can be set to any position between l and ; (see chapter ‘Preparing for use’).
‘Steam tank empty’ light (specific types only)
When the water in the steam tank runs out during use, the ‘steam tank empty’ light goes on.
1 Refill the steam tank with water (see chapter‘Preparing for use’).
’Steam ready’ light (specific types only)
When the steam tank is ready for steam ironing, the ‘steam ready’ light goes on.
Cleaning and maintenance
After ironing
1 Set the on/off switch to ‘O’ (Fig. 8).

2Remove the mains plug from the wall socket.
3Put the iron on the iron stand, set the steam control to l (specific types only) and let the appliance cool down.
Iron
1Clean the iron with a damp cloth.
2Wipe scale and any other deposits off the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive (liquid) cleaner.
Never immerse the iron in water nor rinse it under the tap.
Steam tank
Rinse the steam tank once a month or after you have used the appliance approximately 10 times.
1 Carefully remove the steam tank cap (Fig. 6).
Let the appliance cool down sufficiently before you remove the steam tank cap.
2Rinse the steam tank with 500ml of fresh water.
3Hold the steam tank upside down over the sink and pour out the water (Fig. 14).
4Screw the steam tank cap back onto the steam tank.
Storage
1Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and let the appliance cool down.
Make sure the appliance has cooled down sufficiently before you put it away.
2Empty the steam tank.
3Regularly check if the mains cord and the supply hose are still undamaged and safe.
4Specific types only:For safe storage,lock the iron onto the stand with the iron lock slide.
First put down the tip (1) and then put down the heel (2) (Fig. 15).
5Wind up the hose and cord separately.
6Insert the hose and cord neatly in the cord storage compartment (Fig. 16).
Environment
-Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection point for recycling. By doing this, you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 17).

Perhatian

Medan elektromagnet (EMF)

Menyiapkan penggunaan
Mengisi tangki uap
Jangan sekali-kali merendam tangki uap di dalam air.
Jangan membuka tutup tangki uap bila setrika dan tangki uap masih panas. 1 Lepaskan steker listrik dari stopkontak dinding.

2 Dengan perlahan-lahan bukalah tutup tangki uap (Gbr. 6).
Anda mungkin mendengar bunyi saat melepas tutupnya. Bunyi ini disebabkan oleh tekanan vakum atau tekanan yang tersisa di dalam tangki uap dan hal ini normal.
3 Tuangkan air ke dalam tangki uap (maks. 800 ml) (Gbr. 7).
Gunakan air keran untuk mengisi tangki.
Jika air keran di daerah Anda memiliki kesadahan yang sangat tinggi, kami sarankan Anda menggunakan air distilasi 50% dan air keran 50%.

Pengisian ulang cepat

2Tekan pemicu uap hingga Anda tidak lagi mendengar bunyi uap keluar dari alat (Gbr. 9).
3Untuk mengurangi tekanan tangki uap, tekan terus pemicu uap dan putar perlahan tutup tangki uap berlawanan arah jarum jam.
Letakkan selembar kain di atas tutupnya saat Anda membukanya. Pastikan tidak ada uap yang tersisa dalam tangki uap.
4Lepaskan steker listrik dari stopkontak dinding dan tunggu kurang-lebih 15 menit agar alat menjadi dingin.
5Isilah tangki uap sebagaimana diterangkan dalam bagian ‘Mengisi tangki uap’ dan biarkan alat memanas lagi.
Menyetel suhu
Letakkan selalu tangki uap pada permukaan yang datar, stabil dan rata. Jangan letakkan tangki uap pada bagian yang lunak di meja setrika.
1 Letakkan setrika pada dudukannya.
Jangan letakkan setrika panas pada selang pasokan atau kabel listrik. Pastikan kabel tersebut tidak bersentuhan dengan tapak setrika yang panas.
2Untuk menyetel suhu penyetrikaan yang diperlukan, setel putaran suhu ke posisi yang sesuai (Gbr. 10).

Jika Anda tidak tahu jenis kain atau bahannya terbuat dari apa, tentukan suhu penyetrikaan yang benar dengan cara menyetrika pada bagian yang tak terlihat apabila Anda mengenakannya.
Bahan sutera, wol dan sintetis: setrika di bagian belakang kain agar tidak menimbulkan bercak mengkilap.
Mulailah menyetrika bahan yang memerlukan suhu penyetrikaan paling rendah, seperti bahan yang terbuat dari serat sintetis.
3Masukkan steker listrik ke stopkontak dinding yang telah dibumikan dan setel sakelar on/off ke ‘I’.
,Tangki uap dan tapak setrika mulai memanas.
,Bila lampu suhu padam, berarti setrika telah mencapai suhu yang disetel. Bila air dalam tangki
uap telah siap untuk menyetrika dengan uap:
-GC6450/GC6440: lampu ‘steam ready’ menyala.
-GC6433/GC6430/GC6420: lampu tanda hidup pada sakelar on/off akan padam.
Catatan: Selama menyetrika dengan uap, lampu suhu akan menyala. Ini menunjukkan setrika sedang memanas ke suhu yang disetel.
Catatan: Jika Anda sedang menyetrika pada suhu tinggi kemudian menyetel putaran suhu ke setelan lebih rendah, tunggulah hingga lampu suhu menyala dan padam lagi sebelum Anda melanjutkan menyetrika. Ini mencegah kerusakan pada kain Anda.
Tip
-Jika kain terdiri atas serat campuran, pilihlah selalu suhu yang diperlukan untuk serat kain yang paling halus, yaitu, suhu terendah. Misalnya: jika pakaian terdiri atas 60% polyester dan 40% katun, pakaian itu harus disetrika pada suhu yang ditunjukkan untuk polyester ( 1) dan tanpa uap.
-Bila Anda menyetrika kain wol dengan uap, maka dapat muncul bercak mengkilap. Untuk mencegah hal ini, gunakan kain kering atau baliklah bagian dalam pakaian ke luar dan setrikalah bagian dalam tersebut.
-Menyetrika kain beludru dan bahan lainnya cenderung menimbulkan bercak-bercak mengkilap hanya pada satu arah (searah bulu) bila Anda agak menekan alat saat menyetrika.
-Jangan gunakan uap bila Anda menyetrika sutera berwarna. Hal ini dapat menyebabkan noda.

Menyetrika dengan uap
1Pastikan bahwa isi tangki uap cukup.
2Setel suhu penyetrikaan yang diperlukan (lihat bab ‘Menyiapkan penggunaan’).
Catatan: Menyetrika dengan uap hanya mungkin dilakukan pada suhu penyetrikaan yang lebih tinggi (setelan suhu 2hingga MAX).
3Masukkan steker listrik ke stopkontak dinding yang telah dibumikan dan setel sakelar on/off ke ‘I’.
-Lampu tanda hidup di sakelar on/off dan lampu suhu di setrika menyala untuk menunjukkan bahwa tangki uap dan setrika mulai memanas.

4Hanya tipe tertentu: Pilih setelan uap yang cocok untuk suhu menyetrika yang dipilih: (Gbr. 11)
-Pilih setelan uap l untuk setelan suhu 2.
-Pilih setelan uap antara l dan ; untuk setelan suhu 3hingga MAX.
5Tangki uap dan tapak setrika mulai memanas.
-Cold start: tapak setrika akan memanas dalam waktu kurang-lebih 2 menit dan tangki uap akan memanas dalam waktu kurang-lebih 6 menit.
-Quick reheat: jika Anda mengisi ulang tangki uap sewaktu menyetrika, air dalam tangki uap
memerlukan waktu kurang-lebih 6 menit untuk memanas.
,Bila setrika telah mencapai suhu yang disetel, lampu suhu akan padam.
,Bila air dalam tangki uap sudah siap untuk menyetrika dengan uap:
-GC6450/GC6440: lampu ‘steam ready’ menyala (Gbr. 12).
Catatan: Sewaktu menyetrika dengan uap, lampu ‘steam-ready’ akan terus padam. Ini menandakan bahwa tangki uap sedang memanas hingga mencapai suhu yang tepat.
- GC6433/GC6430/GC6420: lampu tanda hidup pada sakelar on/off akan padam.
6 Tekan pemicu uap dan tekan terus saat menyetrika dengan uap (Gbr. 9).
Catatan: Jika sudah lama Anda tidak menggunakan fungsi uap, maka uap yang masih ada di dalam selang pasokan akan mengembun jadi air. Sewaktu Anda mulai lagi menyetrika dengan uap, ini dapat menyebabkan semburan air dalam alat dan beberapa tetesan air akan keluar dari tapak setrika.
Catatan: Agar tetesan air tidak mengenai pakaian Anda, pegang setrika di atas sehelai kain bekas.Tekan aktivator uap sampai produksi uap sudah normal kembali sebelum Anda mulai menyetrika dengan uap lagi.
Menyetrika tanpa uap
1Setel suhu penyetrikaan yang diperlukan (lihat bab ‘Menyiapkan penggunaan’).
2Setrikalah tanpa menekan pemicu uap.
,Sebagian uap akan keluar jika Anda menekan pemicu uap secara tidak sengaja saat menyetrika.
,Jika tangki uap sudah kosong atau belum panas,Anda akan mendengar suara klik di dalam tangki uap. Ini terjadi bila katup uap terbuka dan sama sekali tidak berbahaya.
Fitur
Menyetrika dengan uap secara vertikal
Anda juga dapat menyetrika dengan uap saat Anda memegang setrika pada posisi berdiri. Ini berguna untuk menghilangkan kusut dari pakaian (yakni jaket, setelan dan jas) yang digantung, tirai, dll.
1 Pegang setrika pada posisi berdiri dan tekan pemicu uap (Gbr. 13). Jangan sekali-kali mengarahkan uap ke orang.
Uap yang dapat diubah (hanya tipe tertentu)
Kontrol uap secara terus-menerus dapat disesuaikan dan disetel ke posisi apa pun antara l dan ; (lihat bab ‘Menyiapkan penggunaan’).
Lampu ‘Steam tank empty’ (hanya tipe tertentu)
Bila air dalam tangki uap mulai habis sewaktu penggunaan, lampu‘steam tank empty’ akan menyala.

Membersihkan dan pemeliharaan
Setelah menyetrika
1Setel sakelar on/off ke ‘O’ (Gbr. 8).
2Lepaskan steker listrik dari stopkontak dinding.
3Letakkan setrika pada tumitnya, setel kontrol uap ke l (hanya tipe tertentu) dan biarkan alat dingin sendiri.
Setrika
1Bersihkan setrika dengan kain lembab.
2Seka kerak dan endapan lainnya dari tapak setrika dengan kain lembab dan pembersih (cairan) non-abrasif.
Jangan sekali-kali merendam setrika dalam air ataupun membilasnya di bawah keran.
Tangki uap
Bilas tangki uap sekali sebulan atau setelah Anda menggunakan alat sebanyak kurang-lebih 10 kali.
1 Dengan hati-hati buka tutup tangki uap (Gbr. 6).
Biarkan alat cukup dingin sebelum Anda melepas tutup tangki uap.
2Bilas tangki uap dengan 500 ml air bersih.
3Pegang tangki uap dengan terbalik di atas baskom dan keluarkan airnya (Gbr. 14).
4Kembalikan dan putar lagi tutup tangki uap pada tangkinya.
Penyimpanan
1Lepaskan steker listrik dari stopkontak dinding dan biarkan alat menjadi dingin. Pastikan alat sudah cukup dingin sebelum memindahnya.
2Kosongkan tangki uap.
3Periksalah secara teratur apakah kabel listrik dan selang pasokan masih belum rusak dan aman.
4Hanya tipe tertentu: Untuk menyimpan dengan aman, kunci setrika pada posisi berdiri dengan geseran pengunci setrika.Turunkan dulu ujungnya (1) lalu turunkan tumitnya (2) (Gbr. 15).
5Gulung selangnya dan kabelnya secara terpisah.
6Masukkan selang dan kabel dengan rapi pada tempat penyimpanan kabel (Gbr. 16).
Lingkungan
-Jangan membuang alat bersama limbah rumah tangga biasa jika alat sudah tidak dapat dipakai lagi, tetapi serahkan ke tempat pengumpulan barang bekas yang resmi untuk didaur ulang. Dengan melakukan hal ini, Anda ikut membantu melestarikan lingkungan (Gbr. 17).
