AIR BAGS
The air bag system has been designed to maximise the safety of the occupants in the event of serious collisions. It works in conjunction with the force limiting seat belts.
Front air bags
These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in the fascia for the front passenger. They are deployed simultaneously, except in cases where the passenger air bag is disarmed.
Precautions regarding the passenger air bag
disarm the air bag if you
install a rear-facing child seat,
activate the air bag for an
adult passenger.
Disarming the passenger air bag*

the ignition key into the passenger air bag slot 1 and turn it to the "OFF" position.
As soon as you remove the child seat, turn the air bag switch to the 'ON' position, to activate the air bag again.
Disarming check
With the ignition switched on (2nd notch), illumination of this warning light, accompanied by an
audible signal and the message
'Passenger air bag deactivated'
on the multi-function display, indicates that the passenger air bag is disarmed (slot in the "OFF" position).
The warning light remains on throughout the disarming process.
Side air bags
The side air bags are incorporated into the front seat back frame, on the door side and are deployed independently of each other, on whichever side the collision occurs.

CRUISE CONTROL
The cruise control makes it possible to maintain a constant vehicle speed, programmed by the driver, irrespective of the profile of the road and without any action on the accelerator or the brake pedals. In order for the vehicle speed to be memorised, it must be greater than 25 mph (40 km/h) (manual gearbox) or 37 mph (60 km/h) (automatic gearbox), with at least 4th gear engaged (2nd gear for the automatic gearbox).
Activation
Place knob 1 in the ON position. A speed can now be memorised.
Place knob 1 in the OFF position to deactivate the system.
Memorising a speed
When you reach the required speed, press button 2 or 3. The speed is memorised and will be maintained automatically.
Note: it is possible to accelerate temporarily without deactivating the cruise control.

PEUGEOT SERVICING

PEUGEOT SERVICING
Your vehicle benefits from extended service intervals.
- For 2 litre 180 hp engine vehicles: every 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or every two years.
- For 1.6 litre and 2 litre engine vehicles: every 20,000 miles (30,000 km) or every two years. Your service indicator indicates when the services are due; the point at which a service is due is calculated from the last
indicator reset (see corresponding section).
The point at which a service is due is determined by two parameters:
- the distance travelled,
- the time elapsed since the last service.
Note: the distance remaining may be weighted by the time factor, in accordance with the user's driving habits.
The extension of the service intervals means that the engine oil level must be checked regularly: topping up of the oil between oil changes is normal.
It is for this reason that the PEUGEOT network invites you to an intermediate visit between each regular Service. The service indicator does not show when this service is due. It must be carried out every 10,000 miles (15,000 km)
maximum for the 1.6 litre and 2 litre engines and every 6,000 miles (10,000 km) maximum for the 2 litre 180 bhp engines.
A Peugeot dealer will carry out a quick check, and will top up the levels if necessary (oil, coolant, screen-wash up to 2 litres).
If the oil level is too low there is a risk of serious damage to the engine: check the engine oil level at least every 2,000 to 3,000 miles (3,000 to 5,000 km), depending on the conditions of use.
This extended servicing has been made possible by modifications to our vehicles and to the lubricants:
THUS IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ONLY USE LUBRICANTS WHICH ARE SUITED TO YOUR ENGINE AND RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER (see "Lubricants" pages).

SPECIAL FEATURES
Some of your vehicle's vital components have specific servicing schedules. The brake fluid must be replaced every 40,000 miles (60,000 km) or every 2 years. The passenger compartment filter must be checked at each visit to the PEUGEOT dealer (intermediate visits and
regular services). The timing belt: contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Arduous conditions of use
If the vehicle is used under certain particularly arduous conditions:
- Continuous door-to-door use.
- Town use.
- Repeated short journeys, with the engine cold in low temperatures.
Or prolonged stay under the following conditions:
- Countries with temperatures often above + 30°C.
- Countries with temperatures often below minus 15°C.
- Countries with a dusty atmosphere.
- Countries whose lubricants or fuels do not conform to our recommendations.
It is necessary to follow an "Arduous conditions" service schedule which includes:
- shorter service intervals:
• Every 10,000 miles (15,000 km) or every year for the 2 litre 180 bhp engine vehicles.
• Every 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or every year for the 1.6 litre and 2 litre engine vehicles.
- special operations:
• Replacement of the air filter every 10,000 miles (15,000 km) for the 2 litre 180 bhp engine vehicles.

SERVICE INDICATOR
This indicates when the next service is due in accordance with the manufacturer's servicing schedule.
Operation
For 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on, the spanner symbolising the servicing operations comes on; the distance recorder display indicates the number of miles [kilometres] (rounded off) remaining until the next service.
Example: 4,800 miles/km remain before the next service. For five seconds after the ignition is switched on, the display indicates:
The distance remaining to the next service is less than 500 miles (1,000 km).
Example: 400 miles (900 km)
remain before the next service. For 5 seconds after the ignition is
switched on, the indicator displays:
5 seconds after the ignition was switched on, the distance recorder resumes its normal operation and the spanner remains lit.
It indicates that a service must be carried out soon. The display indicates the total and trip distance.
5 seconds after the ignition was switched on, the distance recorder resumes its normal operation and the display indicates the total and trip distance.
The service is overdue.
The service spanner flashes for 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on.
Example: the service is overdue by 300 miles/km, your vehicle must be serviced as soon as possible.
For 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on, the display indicates:
5 seconds after the ignition was switched on, the distance recorder resumes its normal operation and the service spanner remains lit.
The display indicates the total and trip distance.
Note: the service spanner may also come on if more than two years have elapsed since the last service (refer to the "PEUGEOT Servicing" section).

The diagram opposite states the optimum range of viscosity depending on the temperatures at which the oils are to be used.
It is also possible to use 'superior quality' synthetic oils.
In the absence of semi-synthetic or synthetic oils, oils of ACEA A1/A2 and API SH/SJ/SL quality may be used by following the 'arduous conditions' servicing schedule which specifies shorter service intervals.
