Operation

During playback, press [∫].

[DIR] switched to FWD: In the stop mode, press [5] (fast forward) or [6] (rewind).

[DIR] switched to REV: In the stop mode, press [6] (fast forward) or [5] (rewind).

In the stop mode or during playback, set [DIR] to REV or FWD.

During reception, press [RADIO ON/OFF/BAND].

Note:

Press [∫] to stop the tape before operating the radio. While playing a tape, the radio will not turn on even if you press [RADIO ON/OFF/BAND].

You can use normal type tapes only. This unit will not be able to do full justice to characteristics of high and metal position tapes even if they are played back.

≥Is a tape playing?

Listening caution

Do not play your headphones or earphones

at a high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use. Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations. Even if your headphones or earphones are the open-air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, don’t turn up the volume so high that you can’t hear what’s around you.

Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing “comfort level” adapts to higher volumes of sound. So what sounds “normal” can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. Guard against this by setting your equipment at a safe level BEFORE your hearing adapts. To establish a safe level:

≥Start your volume control at a low setting. ≥Slowly increase the sound until you can

hear it comfortably and clearly, and without

distortion. Once you have established a comfortable sound level: ≥Set the dial and leave it there.

How to receive an FM broadcast clearly

Set FM RECEPTION to NORMAL. When FM reception is impaired, or there is interference from a powerful station, set it to

Battery condition indicator

This indicator is displayed when listening to tapes or the radio.

To check while off Press [3, ]. The indicator lights for about 5 seconds.

When the battery is weak

The indicator will flash and then:

Leaving the unit in this condition erases the contents of the memory.

Replacing the batteries within 30 seconds will retain any stored information.

≥Avoid using or placing this unit near

sources of heat. Do not leave it in an auto-

mobile exposed to direct sunlight for a long

period of time with doors and windows

closed. ≥To avoid product damage, do not expose

this product to rain, water or other liquids.

≥Discontinue use if you experience discom-

fort with the earphones or any other parts that directly contact your skin. Continued use may cause rashes or other allergic reactions.

≥If rechargeable batteries are to be used,

rechargeable batteries manufactured by

Panasonic are recommended. ≥Align the poles (+ and -) properly when

inserting batteries.

≥Do not recharge ordinary dry cell batteries. ≥Remove batteries if the unit is not to be

used for a long time.

≥Do not use batteries if the covering has

been peeled off. Mishandling of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage which can damage items the fluid contacts and may cause a fire. If electrolyte leaks from batteries, consult your dealer. Wash thoroughly with water if electrolyte comes in contact with any part of your body.

Auto-reverse

Play continues, looping forward and reverse, until you press [∫].

Notes:

≥When closing the cassette holder, be sure

to push the cassette holder firmly against the unit.

≥Do not open the cassette compartment

cover during tape operation.

≥Between functions (play, fast forward or

rewind), always press [∫] first to avoid jamming the tape.

≥When the tape reaches the end after fast

forward or rewind, press [∫] to release the button.

The hold function

This function prevents the unit from operating even if one of the front panel buttons is pressed in error.

Boosts the low frequency range. ≥If distortion occurs, turn down the volume.

Water-resistant (Splashproof)

This unit is splashproof and is not designed to be used under water. Please note the following points to avoid possible damage to the unit or the headphones.

≥Do not immerse set in water or splash

excessive amounts of water onto it.

≥If the unit or the headphones get wet, dry

them with a soft cloth.

≥Do not open the cassette holder near

water or sand.

≥Make sure there is no sand or dust around

the cassette holder.

≥Do not expose the unit or the headphones

to salt water. ≥Since water in the headphones jack may

cause damage, cover it with attached rub-

ber cap when the headphones are not in

use. ≥Do not leave the unit and the headphones

for a long period of time in high tempera-

ture and high humidity areas such as bath-

rooms or damp basements, etc. ≥To prevent water from entering the cas-

sette compartment, be sure to close the

buckle lock until it locks the cassette hold-

er closed.

∫ If the surfaces are dirty To clean this unit, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.

≥Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine

to clean this unit.

≥Before using chemically treated cloth, read

the instructions that came with the cloth carefully.

∫ For a cleaner crisper sound

Clean the heads regularly to assure good quality playback. Use a cleaning tape (not included).

Preset tuning

Frequencies of up to 30 radio stations (10 in AM, 10 in FM1 and 10 in FM2) can be preset.

∫ Memory presetting

1 Tune in the station to be preset. 2 Select the Memory channel (1-10).

≥Memory channels 1 to 5

Press [PRESET] so

“ ” flashes, then press and hold a numeric button ([1] – [5]) for about 2 seconds.

≥Memory channels 6 to 10

Press [PRESET] twice so “ ” and “ ” flash, then press and hold a numeric button ([1] – [5]) for about 2 seconds.

Example (Memory channel 6):

Three beeps can be heard, and presetting is finished.

To recall a preset station ≥Memory channels 1 to 5

Press [PRESET] so “ ” flashes, then press a numeric button ([1] – [5]).

≥Memory channels 6 to 10

Press [PRESET] twice so “ ” and “ ” flash, then press a numeric button

([1] – [5]).

Change the frequency step to suit the area. Changing the frequency steps erases the preset stations.

While the radio is on, While pressing [PRESET], press and hold [RADIO ON/OFF/BAND] until the display changes.

Each time you do this: FM 0.2 MHz, AM 10 kHz

Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company or Panasonic Sales Company (collectively referred to as “the Warrantor”) will repair or replace this product with new or refurbished parts or equivalent product, free of charge in the U.S.A. or Puerto Rico, in the event of a defect in materials or workmanship as follows (all time periods commence from the date of original purchase):

For one (1) year—Radio, Clock Radio, Radio with Tape Player or Recorder, Speaker, IC Recorder

For ten (10) days—Batteries—(when applicable)—New re-

chargeable batteries in exchange for defective rechargeable batteries. Non-rechargeable batteries are not warranted.

For ninety (90) days—SD Memory Card—New SD card of the same memory capacity in exchange for a defective SD Card for ninety (90) days.
