INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the Omron®HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure
Monitor with Advanced Positioning Sensor (APS

®

) and PC Software.

The Omron wrist monitor uses the oscillometric method of blood pressure
measurement. This means the monitor detects your blood’s movement
through the artery in your wrist and converts the movements into a digital
reading.

Clinical research has proven a direct relationship between blood pressure
in the wrist and blood pressure in the arm. Changes in wrist blood
pressure reflect changes in arm blood pressure because the arteries in the
arm and wrist connect.

The software included with this monitor can help you provide important
trending information for your physician of changes in your blood pressure.

The HEM-670IT comes with the following components:

OPERATING THE DEVICE

Contact your physician for specific information about your blood
pressure. Self-diagnosis and treatment using measured results may be

dangerous. Follow the instructions of your physician or licensed
healthcare provider.

If battery fluid should get in your eyes, immediately rinse with plenty
of clean water. Contact a physician immediately.

If you have a condition that may compromise circulation, you may
get an inaccurate reading with this device. Consult your physician
before using this device.

Read all of the information in the instruction manual and any other
literature in the box before operating the unit.

This device is intended for use in measuring blood pressure and pulse
rate in the adult population. Do not use this device on infants or

persons who cannot express their intentions.

operational failure.

Use only Omron authorized parts and accessories. Parts and
accessories not approved for use with the device may damage the

unit.
Use only 1.5V alkaline batteries with this device. Do not use other

types of batteries. This may damage the unit.
Do not play the CD-ROM disc included with this monitor on general

audio players, DVD players or personal game devices. It may
damage the speaker of the device and may harm your eardrums.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Do not subject the monitor to strong shocks, such as dropping the unit
on the floor.

Do not submerge the device or any of the components in water.

Store the device and the components in a clean, safe location.

Changes or modification not approved by Omron Healthcare will void
the user warranty. Do not disassemble or attempt to repair the unit or

components.

BEFORE TAKING A MEASUREMENT

To ensure a reliable reading follow these recommendations:

1. Avoid eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, exercising and bathing for at
least 30 minutes before taking measurement. Rest for at least 15
minutes before taking a measurement.

2. Stress raises blood pressure. Avoid taking
measurements during stressful times.

3. The cuff can be applied to your left or right
wrist.

4. Measurements should be taken in a quiet place
and you should be in a relaxed, seated position.

5. Remain still and do not talk during the
measurements.

6. Keep a record of your blood pressure and pulse for your physician.
A single measurement may not provide an accurate indication of your
true blood pressure. You need to take and record several readings over
a period of time. Try to measure your blood pressure at the same time
each day for consistency.

IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT SYMBOL ( )

When the monitor detects an irregular rhythm two or more times during
the measurement, the Irregular Heartbeat Symbol ( ) will appear on the
display with the measurement values.

An irregular heartbeat rhythm is defined as a
rhythm that is more than 25% slower or 25%
faster from the average rhythm detected while
the monitor is measuring the systolic blood
pressure and the diastolic blood pressure.

If the irregular heartbeat symbol ( )
displays with your measurement results, we
recommend you consult your physician.
Follow the directions of your doctor.

The American Heart Association1recommends the following guideline
for upper limit of normal for home blood pressure readings:

AHA Home Guideline for Upper Limit of Normal BP

Systolic Blood Pressure 135 mmHg
Diastolic Blood Pressure 85 mmHg
This is a general guideline because blood pressure depends on

age and morbidity. The AHA recommends a lower home blood
pressure goal for certain patients, including diabetic patients,
pregnant women, and patients with renal failure

Omron Healthcare recommends you contact your physician if the
MORNING HYPERTENSION SYMBOL and/or the HEARTBEAT
SYMBOL appear on the display with your measurement values.

MORNING HYPERTENSION SYMBOL ( )

The Morning Hypertension Symbol is displayed if the morning average
reading for a week is above 135 for the Systolic Blood Pressure value
and/or 85 for the Diastolic Blood Pressure value when viewing the
Morning Averages and the Evening Averages in the memory.

HEARTBEAT SYMBOL ( )

TAKING A MEASUREMENT

The Heartbeat Symbol flashes on the display during the
measurement. The Heartbeat Symbol flashes at every heartbeat.

When the measurement is complete, the Heartbeat Symbol flashes on
the display with your blood pressure and pulse rate if the reading is
above 135 for the Systolic Blood Pressure value and/or 85 for the
Diastolic Blood Pressure value.

USING THE MEMORY FUNCTION

The Heartbeat Symbol flashes when the blood pressure reading stored
in the memory is above 135 for the Systolic Blood Pressure value
and/or 85 for the Diastolic Blood Pressure value.

AVERAGE VALUE SYMBOL ( )

The Average Value Symbol is displayed when you press the MEMORY
button. The most recent average reading appears on the display screen.

MORNING AVERAGE SYMBOL ( )

The Morning Average symbol is displayed when viewing Morning
Averages using the Memory Function.

EVENING AVERAGE SYMBOL ( )

The Evening Average symbol is displayed when viewing Evening
Averages using the Memory Function.

BATTERY INSTALLATION

1. Press the ( ) indicator on the battery cover
and slide the cover off in the direction of the
arrow.

2. Install 2 “AAA” size batteries so the
+ (positive) and - (negative) polarities match the
polarities of the battery compartment as
indicated.

3. Replace the Battery Cover by sliding the cover
as illustrated until the cover clicks securely
over the battery compartment.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

When the Low Battery Indicator appears on the display screen turn the
monitor off and remove all the batteries. Replace with two new batteries
at the same time.

WARNING

If battery fluid should get in your eyes, immediately rinse with plenty
of clean water. Contact a physician immediately.

NOTES: • Turn the unit off before replacing the batteries. Measurement

values stored in the memory are not deleted during battery
replacement.

• When the batteries are replaced, you may need to reset the
date and time. If the year is flashing on the display screen,
refer to “Setting the Date and Time” Section.

• The supplied batteries may have a shorter life.

SETTING THE MEMORY FUNCTION

The Monitor stores up to 84 sets of measurement values (blood pressure
and pulse rate) with the date and time. When 84 sets of measurement
values are stored in the memory, the oldest record is deleted to save the
most recent measurement values.

The monitor is designed to store the measurement values for one person in
the memory. If more than one person uses this monitor, we recommend
setting the Automatic Memory Function to OFF.

1. TO CHANGE THE SETTING

Press the START/STOP button
to turn the power off, then press
the SET button.

The Auto Memory Screen is displayed with the current setting. The
unit is set to ON at the time of purchase.

2. SELECTING ON OR OFF

Press the ( ) button to change the setting
to OFF.

Press the ( ) button to change the setting
to ON.

3. CONFIRM THE SETTING

To continue to change other settings, press the SET button to confirm
the Memory Function you selected. The TruRead™ Screen is
displayed.

If no other changes are needed, press the START/STOP button to turn
the power off.

SETTING THE TruRead™ FUNCTION

The TruRead™ Mode takes three consecutive measurements. The
monitor will inflate, take a measurement, and deflate three times
separated by a short interval of time between each measurement.

Note: The default setting is OFF, which means the monitor is set to the

Single Mode to take one measurement.

When the TruRead is set to ON, the INTERVAL TIME can be set to 15,
30, 60 or 120 seconds.

Note: When the Automatic Memory Function is set to OFF, the

TruRead™ function can not be set to ON.

1. TO CHANGE THE SETTING

Press the START/STOP button
to turn the power off, then press
the SET button.

Press the SET button again.
The TruRead Screen is displayed with the

current setting.
The TruRead is set to OFF at the time of purchase.

2. SELECTING ON OR OFF

Press the ( ) button to change the TruRead
setting to OFF.

Press the ( ) button to change the TruRead
setting to ON.

3. CONFIRM THE TruRead SETTING

Press the SET button to confirm the TruRead setting. The Interval
Time Screen is displayed.

4. TO SELECT THE INTERVAL

Press the ( ) or ( ) button to change the setting
to the desired time interval between
measurements.

The INTERVAL TIME is set to 60 at the time
of purchase.

5. CONFIRM THE INTERVAL SETTING

To continue to change other settings, press the SET button to confirm
the Interval setting. The Position Sensor Screen is displayed.

If no other changes are needed, press the START/STOP button to store
your setting and turn the power off.

SETTING THE ADVANCED POSITIONING SENSOR

The Advanced Positioning Sensor (APS®) will assure you the unit is in the
correct position level with the user’s heart before the monitor starts to take
the measurement. When the APS Sensor is set to ON, the SIGNAL can be
set to ON or OFF. When the SIGNAL is set to ON, the monitor beeps
when correctly positioned.

1. TO CHANGE THE SETTING

Press the START/STOP button
to turn the power off, then press
the SET button.

Continue to press the SET button
until the Position Sensor Screen is displayed

The Position Sensor Screen is displayed with the current setting.
The Position Sensor and the SIGNAL are set to ON at the time of

purchase.

SETTING THE MEASUREMENT WRIST

The monitor is designed to take measurements on the left wrist or the right
wrist. The monitor is set to take measurements on the left wrist at the time
of purchase.

1. TO CHANGE THE SETTING

Press the START/STOP button
to turn the power off, then press

Continue to press the SET button
until the Wrist Screen displays.

The Wrist Screen displays with the current setting.

2. SELECTING LEFT WRIST OR

the Measurement Wrist you selected. The Alarm Set Screen is
displayed.

SETTING THE ALARM

The alarm can be set to sound twice a day to alert the user to take a
measurement. The alarm can be set to AM or PM alerts. The alarm is set
to off ( ) at the time of purchase.

NOTES:

• Press any button on the monitor to stop the alarm.

• The alarm will automatically stop sounding after 2 minutes.

• The alarm will not sound when the monitor is in use; setting the
monitor, taking a measurement, using the memory or using the graph
function.

Set the monitor to the current date and time before taking a measurement
for the first time. If the date and time are not set correctly, the
measurement values stored in the memory will have the wrong date and
time.

Set the date and time in the following situations:

1. Before you use the monitor for the first time

2. After battery replacement

3. After resetting the monitor

The monitor is designed to adjust the contrast of the display.

1. TO CHANGE THE SETTING

Press the START/STOP button
to turn the power off, then press
the SET button.

Continue to press the SET button
until the Contrast Screen displays.

The Contrast Screen displays with the current setting.

2. SELECTING DARKER OR LIGHTER

Press the ( ) button to darken the display.
Press the ( ) button to lighten the display.

3. CONFIRM THE SETTING

To continue to change other settings, press the SET button to confirm
the Contrast setting. The Delete Data Screen is displayed. (Refer to
Page 50.)

If no other changes are needed, press the START/STOP button to store
your setting and turn the power off.

RESETTING THE MONITOR

The monitor can be reset to the default values settings at the time of
purchase.

NOTES:

• After initialization, be sure to set the date and time.

• Measurement values stored in the memory are not deleted when the
monitor is reset. To delete all values stored in the memory refer to page

50.

1. TO CHANGE THE SETTING

Press the START/STOP button
to turn the power off, then press

NOTE: The RESET SETTING automatically defaults to ( ) NO after

The monitor is designed to take measurements on the left wrist or the right
wrist. The monitor is set to take measurements on the left wrist at the time
of purchase.

CAUTION

Read all of the information in the instruction manual and any other
literature in the box before operating the unit.

CAUTION

This device is intended for use in measuring blood pressure and pulse
rate in the adult population. Do not use this device on infants or
persons who cannot express their intentions.

APPLYING THE WRIST CUFF ON THE LEFT WRIST

1. Roll up sleeve. Make sure your sleeve is not
rolled up too tightly on your arm. This may
constrict the flow of blood in your arm.

2. Wrap the cuff directly against your skin.
Do not apply over clothing. Place the cuff
over your left wrist with your left thumb
facing upward.

3. Position the cuff leaving a clearance of
approximately 1/2 to 1 inch between the cuff
and the bottom of your palm as illustrated.

4. Hold the bottom part of the cuff and wrap it around the
wrist so it fits comfortably and securely around your
wrist.

5. Fold the remaining part of the wrist cuff back out of
the way. Lightly press the cloth closure with your
finger so the cuff is securely fastened.

• If the cuff is not securely fastened, the wrist cuff may become loose
during measurement and the measurement may not be possible.

• Users with a wrist circumference of less than 5 3/4 inches may feel
the wrist cuff move if the cloth fastener is not wrapped snugly. In
this case, do not wrap the wrist cuff any tighter, it will not affect the
measurement.

• Fold and fasten the extra portion of wrist cuff as
shown to the right. If the extra portion of wrist
cuff is not fastened, it will not affect the
measurement.

When taking a measurement using the right wrist,
position the cuff as shown in the illustration. Make
sure the right wrist measurement symbol is displayed.

To keep your digital blood pressure monitor in the best condition and
protect the unit from damage, follow the directions listed below:

Keep the monitor in the storage case when not in use.

Do not fold the wrist cuff too tightly.

The fabric fastener could touch the inner surface of the cuff and damage it.
Clean the monitor with a soft dry cloth. Do not use any abrasive or

volatile cleaners. Do not attempt to clean the cuff.

and workmanship appearing within 5 years from the date of purchase, when used in
accordance with the instructions provided with the monitor. The monitor cuff is
warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship appearing within
one year from the date of purchase when the monitor is used in accordance with
the instructions provided with the monitor. The above warranties extend only to
the original retail purchaser.

We will, at our option, repair or replace without charge any monitor or monitor
cuff covered by the above warranties. Repair or replacement is our only
responsibility and your only remedy under the above warranties.

) HEM-670IT de Omron ®y software para la PC.

El monitor de muñeca Omron emplea el método oscilométrico para la
medición de la presión arterial. Esto significa que el monitor detecta el
movimiento de la sangre a través de la arteria en la muñeca y convierte
dicho movimiento en una lectura digital.

Las investigaciones clínicas han demostrado que existe una relación
directa entre la presión arterial de la muñeca y la presión arterial del
brazo. Los cambios en la presión arterial de la muñeca reflejan cambios en
la presión arterial del brazo debido a que las arterias del brazo y de la
muñeca están conectadas.

El software incluido con este monitor puede brindarle información
importante a su médico acerca de tendencias en las variaciones en su
presión arterial.

ANTES DE TOMAR UNA MEDICIÓN

A fin de garantizar una lectura confiable, siga estas recomendaciones:

1. Evite comer, tomar bebidas alcohólicas, fumar, hacer ejercicio y
bañarse durante al menos 30 minutos antes de tomar una medición.
Descanse durante al menos 15 minutos antes de tomar una medición.

2. El estrés eleva la presión arterial. Evite tomar
mediciones en momentos de estrés.

3. Se puede colocar la banda para la muñeca tanto
en la muñeca izquierda como en la derecha.

4. Las mediciones se deberán llevar a cabo en un
lugar tranquilo, mientras está sentado y
relajado.

5. Quédese quieto y no hable durante las
mediciones.

6. Lleve un registro de su presión arterial y del pulso para que lo vea su
médico. Es posible que una sola medición no brinde una indicación
precisa de su verdadera presión arterial. Es necesario tomar varias
mediciones y registrarlas durante un período de tiempo. Trate de medir
su presión arterial todos los días a la misma hora para obtener medidas
consistentes.

El símbolo de hipertensión matutina aparece en pantalla cuando la lectura

arterial diastólica al visualizar los promedios matutinos y los promedios
nocturnos en la memoria.

CÓMO TOMAR UNA MEDICIÓN

El símbolo de latido parpadea en la pantalla durante la medición. El
símbolo de latido parpadea ante cada latido del corazón.

Una vez que se complete la medición, el Símbolo de latido parpadea
en la pantalla junto con la presión arterial y el pulso si la lectura es
superior a 135 para el valor de la presión arterial sistólica y/o 85 para
el valor de la presión arterial diastólica.

USO DE LA FUNCIÓN MEMORIA

El símbolo de latido parpadea cuando la lectura de la presión arterial
almacenada en la memoria es superior a 135 para el valor de la
presión arterial sistólica y/o 85 para el valor de la presión arterial
diastólica.

SÍMBOLO DE VALOR PROMEDIO ( )

El símbolo de valor promedio aparece al presionar el botón MEMORY
(Memoria). La lectura del promedio más reciente aparece en la pantalla.

COLOCACIÓN DE LAS PILAS

1. Presione el indicador ( ) que aparece en la
cubierta de las pilas y deslice la cubierta en la
dirección que indica la flecha.

2. Coloque 2 pilas “AAA” de modo que las
polaridades + (positiva) y - (negativa)
concuerden con las polaridades que se indican
en el compartimiento de las pilas.

3. Vuelva a colocar la tapa, deslizándola como se
muestra en la ilustración hasta que quede
correctamente ajustada.

COLOCACIÓN DE LAS PILAS

CAMBIO DE LAS PILAS

Cuando el indicador de batería baja aparezca en la pantalla, apague el
monitor y retire todas las pilas. Cámbielas simultáneamente por dos pilas
nuevas.

ADVERTENCIA

En caso de que el fluido de las pilas entre en contacto con los ojos,
enjuague de inmediato con abundante agua limpia. Consulte
inmediatamente a un médico.

NOTAS: • Apague la unidad antes de cambiar las pilas. Los valores de

medición que se almacenan en la memoria no se borran
durante el cambio de pilas.

• Al cambiar las pilas, es posible que necesite volver a
configurar la fecha y hora. Si el año parpadea en la pantalla,
consulte la Sección “Configuracion de fecha y hora”.

CONFIGURACIÓN DE LA FUNCIÓN TruRead™

El modo TruRead™ toma tres mediciones consecutivas. El monitor se
infla, toma una medición y se desinfla tres veces con un breve intervalo
de tiempo entre cada medición.

Nota: La configuración predeterminada es OFF (Apagado), lo que

significa que el monitor está configurado en modo individual para
tomar una medición.

Cuando la función TruRead está configurada en ON (Encendido), el
INTERVALO DE TIEMPO se puede establecer en 15, 30, 60 o 120
segundos.

Nota: Cuando la función de memoria automática está configurada en

OFF (Apagado), la función TruRead™ no se puede configurar en
ON (Encendido).

El sensor de posicionamiento avanzado (APS®) le asegura que la unidad se
encuentra en la posición correcta respecto del nivel del corazón del usuario antes de
comenzar a tomar la medición. Cuando el sensor APS está configurado en ON
(Encendido), la SEÑAL se puede configurar en ON (Encendido) o en OFF
(Apagado). Cuando la SEÑAL está configurada en ON (Encendido), el monitor
emite un bip cuando llega a la posición correcta.

El monitor ha sido diseñado para tomar mediciones tanto en la muñeca
izquierda como en la muñeca derecha. El monitor está configurado para
tomar mediciones en la muñeca izquierda al momento de la compra.

1. PARA CAMBIAR LA

CONFIGURACIÓN DE LA ALARMA

La alarma se puede configurar para que suene dos veces por día para
alertar al usuario que debe tomar una medición. La alarma se puede
configurar para alertas AM o PM. La alarma está configurada en OFF ( )
al momento de la compra.

NOTAS:

• Presione cualquier botón del monitor para detener la alarma.

• La alarma dejará de sonar automáticamente luego de 2 minutos.

• La alarma no sonará cuando el monitor esté en uso; al configurar el
monitor, al tomar una medición, al usar la memoria o usar la función
gráfico.
