Electronic Brake Control Module: Description and Operation
CONTROL UNIT (BUILT-IN ABS ACTUATOR AND ELECTRIC UNIT)
The control unit computes the wheel rotating speed by the signal current sent from the sensor. Then it supplies a DC current to the actuator solenoidvalve. It also controls ON-OFF operation of the valve relay and motor relay. If any electrical malfunction should be detected in the system, the controlunit causes the warning lamp to light up. In this condition, the ABS will be deactivated by the control unit, and the vehicle's brake system reverts tonormal operation.

System Description
This system improves engine operation when the air conditioner is used.Under the following conditions, the air conditioner is turned off.
- When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed.
- When cranking the engine.
- At high engine speeds.
- When the engine coolant temperature becomes excessively high.
- When operating power steering during low engine speed or low vehicle speed.
- When engine speed is excessively low.

SERVICE INFORMATIONIf an applied vehicle has an idle fluctuation when coasting to a stop with the clutch depressed and the transmission in gear, the cause may be the ECMprogram. The idle fluctuation may continue until the vehicle comes to a complete stop.
There is an updated ECM program available to address this incident if it should occur. Use the Service Procedure outlined in this bulletin to correct thiscondition. For an introduction to and description of ECM Reprogramming, please refer to NTB00-006.
SERVICE PROCEDUREThe service procedure involves three steps: ^ Check/adjust idle speed as outlined.
^ Download the ECM Reprogramming data from ASIST to CONSULT-II. ^ Install the ECM Reprogramming data into the vehicle ECM.
Check/Adjust the Idle Setting.
1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Confirm all electrical loads are turned OFF: Headlamps, A/C, Rear Window Defogger, P/S.

3. Confirm the Mark on Fast Idle Cam is aligned with the Cam Follower Lever Roller (see Figure 1) and the Cam Follower Lever roller is nottouching the Fast Idle Cam. Engine operating temperature and Fast Idle Cam/Cam Follower Lever roller position need to be maintained for step 4.
4. Check and adjust BASE IDLE SPEED: Perform steps a and b. a. Use CONSULT-II, select IACV-AAC/V ADJ in WORK SUPPORT, press START.
b. Verify base idle speed is 700 50 RPM in P or N position. If it is not refer to Figure 2 and adjust it.
5. Using the "Back" button, return to the main menu in CONSULT-II. Turn it and the vehicle ignition "OFF".
Download the ECM Reprogramming data from ASIST to CONSULT-II and Install the ECM Reprogramming data into the vehicle ECM.
: NOTE
The ECM can be permanently damaged if the reprogramming procedure is not performed correctly.
6. The detailed instructions for this part of the procedure can be found by clicking here or refer to Attachment "A" for the print version of thisbulletin. In the instructions you will be directed:

a. Go to ASIST, Into Tool Box, then CONSULT-II utilities, then ECM Data.
b.
Using the keypad in ECM Data Reprogramming, enter the ECM ID code for the repair outlined in this bulletin (as shown). This willdownload the new data from ASIST into CONSULT-II.
c. Select the correct ECM program to install from the CONSULT-II screen. Then download the data from CONSULT-II into the ECM.
: NOTE

Engine Control Module: All Technical Service BulletinsEngine Controls - ECM Programming Interruption Recovery
Classification: EC10-015 Reference: NTB10-078 Date: June 21, 2010 REPROGRAM INTERRUPTION RECOVERY PROCEDURE SERVICE INFORMATION
A complete step-by-step General Procedure for CONSULT-III (C-III) ECM Reprogram Interruption Recovery is now available by attachment in thisbulletin. While performing ECM (Engine Control Module) reprogramming, the reprogramming may stop (become interrupted) before it is 100% complete. One of two messages may appear: ^ The VI probe is disconnected on USB, please check the connection of the probe. ^ Reprogramming fail, "Error code 0".
In many cases, reprogramming recovery is possible and the ECM may not need to be replaced if the complete ECM part number has been registered intothe ECM before reprogramming stopped.
NOTE:
ECM is referred to as ECU in C-III.
The ECM Reprogram Interruption Recovery General Procedure applies to Technical Service Bulletins that include ECM reprogramming published inApril 2010 and later.
IMPORTANT: BEFORE STARTING REPROGRAMMING
^ Connect a battery charger to the vehicle battery. ^ Be sure to turn OFF all vehicle electrical loads. ^ For ECM reprogramming, the C-III MUST be connected to the VI using the USB cable. ^ Be sure to connect the AC Adapter.
