Enjoy advanced and easy shooting
Ergonomic design means the D70’s light, compact body ts the hand well, and ensures easy access to controls; operation is familiar and intuitive. The high eye-point optical viewnder features high magnication to make composing each shot a pleasant experience. The large, clear LCD monitor displays bigger menu fonts and icons, and automatically rotates vertical shots on playback for added viewing ease and versatility. And, the high-energy lithium-ion battery delivers the power to take hundreds of shots in a single charge.
Nikkor lenses, i-TTL built-in Speedlight, plus Nikon Capture software for versatility and creative freedom.
At the heart of great pictures
The D70 is equipped with a Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor that captures 6.1 effective megapixel images with high resolution for sharp details. A state
of the art LSI chip programmed with
next generation algorithms
functions at the heart of
the camera, handling digital
image processing while
optimizing image quality and system performance. It also controls auto white balance, auto tone and color control, and real-time processes to diminish digital noise in long exposure shots.
High performance for greater shooting pleasure
Turn on the D70 and it’s ready to shoot immediately. Press the shutter button and it responds without hesitation. Images are processed and recorded to the CompactFlash card extremely fast, even when using compressed Nikon Electronic Format (RAW) les to t more high quality NEF images onto each card. Images appear on the D70’s bright LCD monitor with almost no delay. Nikon’s 5-area MultiCAM900 autofocus ensures a fast and precise focus lock under virtually any lighting condition. And, the D70 can capture up to 12 (JPEG NORMAL-Large) images in its oversize buffer at a rapid 3 frames per second.

Ingenuity for optimized and predictable results
The D70 offers a combination of personal control and powerful automatic operation that helps you achieve great results under even complex shooting conditions. Seven new Digital VariProgram selections for ultimate automatic operation optimize white balance, sharpening, tone, color, saturation and hue for crisp and vivid results. For example, Portrait Program reproduces beautiful skin tones and texture with soft focus in the background that highlights the subject. The other programs provide Auto, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night landscape, and Night portrait optimization.
Outstanding image quality starts with optimized exposure, including accurate Auto White Balance
and Auto Tone Control. The D70 offers three TTL metering methods, including Nikon’s acclaimed 3D Color Matrix Meter with 1,005-pixel RGB Sensor, Center-Weighted Meter and choice of Spot Meters.
ISO selection covers 200 to 1600 to match most any lighting condition. Shutter speeds from 30 to 1/8,000 s provide full creative control, while auto exposure bracketing helps deliver the exact results you desire. Nikon’s built-in iTTL automatic balanced FillFlash can shoot at synchronized speeds up to 1/500 s for great ll effects under brighter light conditions.
Expanding your expressive abilities
Every image begins with a lens, and none equal the performance of AF Nikkor lenses. Ranging from a 180° 10.5mm f2.8 Fisheye through 600mm,
this exclusive lineup of Zoom-Nikkor and xed focal length lenses is designed to perfectly match the D70’s performance. For exceptional ash photography, the D70 features a built-in ash with exclusive
i-TTL ash control, wireless control of remote Speedlights, and fast 1/500 s ash sync shutter speed. Nikon’s Total Imaging System also includes the supplied Nikon Software and optional Nikon Capture software packages that let you explore the full power of NEF and the fun of creative image processing with your PC or Mac.
