Problem
Service is aware of an accessory issue pertaining to a wall charger manufactured by
Leader Elections Inc. (LEI), China. This charger is susceptible to spikes in the line
voltage. These spikes can lead to excessive charging current, which may damage the
phone’s charger circuitry. The charger remains functional-damage occurs to the phone.
The table below shows the exposure quantities as of 4/13/05.

Solution
Short Term:
1) Global purge issued to remove and return all LEI chargers from DC inventories.
LEI Charger is currently on stop ship.
2) 1.3 million chargers in inventory returned to LEI for rework to add in a bleeder
resistor.
Long Term:
Product is to be sourced from Phihong & Salom-not from LEI.
Service Action
Customer Returns:
Perform the following procedure on all models mentioned under “Phone Models”,
regardless of customer complaint:
1) Verify that the charger accompanied with the unit is LEI. See Note #1:
Note #1: Charger manufacturers can be identified by referencing the model number
printed on the charger’s label. The model numbers of LEI chargers are 35048035A1,
35048035A2, or 35048035C5. Refer to Photo #1 to aid in identifying a LEI charger.

2) Scrap the charger if it is confirmed to be from supplier LEI, and substitute with
either Phihong or Salom. See Note 2:
Note #2: Do not scrap reworked LEI chargers. These chargers have the bleeder resistor
installed and are now acceptable. The chargers have a reworked date code printed on
it’s housing. Photo #2 identifies a reworked LEI charger.

3) If the charger is not LEI, or is a reworked charger, proceed to troubleshoot the
returned phone per normal servicing procedures
Service Inventory:
Purge and scrap all LEI chargers from inventory and substitute with either Phihong or
Salom.
Call Center Action
When responding to customer inquiries of “Unable To Charge” or “No Charge” of phone
models mentioned above, instruct customer to return the unit & charger to an authorized
Service Center for repair.
