Overview
The telescopic handler industry is one of the fastest evolving in the Building Construction Products Division. In recent years the Telehandler industry has changed as demand for different size classes of machines has increased. The launch of Cat product offering within both the smaller and larger size classes for Cat
®
of Cat
Telehandlers into different applications, increasing the importance that the machine sold is the correct machine for specific applications. Now, with the launch of the TH514, Caterpillar continue to be an important player in the distribution of telehandlers. The Caterpillar Alliance Group will allow Caterpillar
®
to continue growth in the telehandler market and meet customer requirements
and expectations.
Our strategy recognizes the increasing role of Telehandlers in everyday work, ranging from Construction to Industrial applications. The TH514 provides a rated capacity of 4990 kg (11,000 lb) and a lift height of
13.7 m (45 ft). Caterpillar also offers a wide range of work tools and machine options to fit a variety of applications, duties, climates, and conditions.

• Engine — Reliable Cat
®
C4.4 mechanical control engines with excellent power and torque levels.
• Axles — Limited slip differential fitted in the front axle as standard. No interaction is needed from
the operator enabling him to concentrate on his job. Secondly the machines are able to be productive in the toughest working conditions.
• Hydraulics — Great proportional hydraulic control on boom raise/lower, tilt, and telescope gives
a smoother feel and increased boom control. A load sensing variable displacement pump delivers flow on demand, ensuring only the flow rate required reducing both fuel consumption and heat generation. Combined cycle times are superior as a result of the pump's ability for simultaneous movements.
• Auxiliary Hydraulic Controls for Hydraulic Work Tools — The auxiliary functions are controlled
by the joystick to any attachment requiring hydraulic supply for operation.
• Controls — The single joystick with roller switches allows operators to become more proficient
in operation. All controls, including auxiliary hydraulics and stabilizers, are fully proportional.
• Air Conditioning — Air conditioning is available from the factory as an option. The heating,
ventilation and optional air conditioning system supplies numerous ventilation outlets strategically positioned throughout the cab for optimum heating, cooling, de-mist and defrost performance.
• Work Tools — Tools designed and approved for the Cat
®
IT coupler will be available with the new TH514. A selection of buckets, forks, carriages and lifting tools will be available for added versatility.
• Coupler — The high visibility manual IT coupler comes standard on the TH514, allowing the operator to quickly change work tools. The high visibility design offers the operator visibility from the operator station to the right hand fork tip.

• Optional Hydraulic IT Coupler — Provides exceptional versatility and operator comfort. This option can also be retro-fitted!
• Proportional Auxiliary Hydraulic Control — The joystick operates the hydraulic functions for the use of work tools that require hydraulic flows. The flow is fully adjustable from 0 to 60 L/m (15.85 gal/min). Constant auxiliary hydraulic flow is available for work tools such as augers, sweeper brooms, etc.
• Stabilizers — Standard to provide an increased stability and load carrying capacity. The stabilizers are designed to improve ground clearance and minimize bulldozing effects.
• Frame Leveling — Standard on the TH514. This feature is especially useful when operating in rough, uneven terrain.

Performance
Performance. With its compact dimensions, three steering modes and a tight turning radius, the TH514 provides exceptional mobility and maneuvrability for working in confined spaces like buildings and yards.
The chassis and booms are manufactured from the highest quality steel to ensure long term life and component durability. The chassis and booms are computer aided designed and were subject to rigorous stress analysis, durability and fatigue tests to ensure that the machine meets all application demands and fulfils customer expectations.
Boom. This model features a box section boom constructed of four welded plates. This box section design gives freedom to place material where needed, optimising weight and lift capacity. Also the wear pads are placed in an optimal position with regards to load distribution — resulting in less wear, greater wear pad contact area and less friction.
Chassis. The chassis of the TH514 is the main platform to mount all major components such as engine pod, axles, boom and cab assemblies. The sturdy chassis features composite bearings with a durable bronze alloy design.
This model features a one-piece chassis with side-mounted cabin and side mounted engine. A widespread wheelbase gives outstanding stability in both traveling and lifting operations.
Stabilizers. Stabilizers are standard on the TH514 to provide increased stability and load capacity at reach. The stabilizers are controlled from the joystick: full proportional, independent or simultaneous.
A compensating cylinder is standard. This cylinder keeps the pallet forks or work tools parallel when lifting or lowering the boom.
The TH514 uses two hydraulic cylinders to extend and retract the boom.

Operator Station
Operator Station. The operator station provides maximum space, all-round visibility and easier access to all controls. The interactive LCD display allows the operator to understand the machine information more easily. Overall, the new cab provides a comfortable environment for the operator.
Interactive LCD Display. The new interactive display allows full interaction with the main controller.
Cab. Operators feel comfortable sitting in the new spacious cabin.
The cabin contains a comfortable, fully adjustable seat with ample leg space and controls within reach. A comprehensive dashboard LCD display completes the operator’s feeling of control.
Visibility. The operator has improved all-round visibility due to the enlarged window surface. A large skylight provides excellent upward visibility and natural lighting. A sliding sunshade screen blocks direct sunlight.

Keypad with added functionality. The keypad is used for the interaction between the interactive LCD display.
Operator Station
Also the following functions can be selected via the keypad:
• 3 Steering modes
• Bucket mode; controls the speed of the tilt cylinder
• Hydraulic system lock-out
Joystick. Setting new standards in hydraulic controllability, the single joystick electro-hydraulic controls allow operators to become proficient in operation.
All controls, including auxiliary hydraulics, are fully proportional and controlled directly from the joystick. In addition the stabilizers are also controlled from the joystick; fully proportional, independent or simultaneous.
A transmission disconnect button (see red arrow) is fitted on the joystick to give added machine control; it allows full engine power to the hydraulics for fast boom operation without manually disconnecting the drive.

Hydraulic System
Hydraulic System. Fitted as standard a variable displacement axial piston pump is mounted externally on the transmission assembly and supplies oil upon demand to the hydraulic control valve assembly. This reduces both fuel consumption and heat generation.
The load sensing, flow sharing, hydraulic system delivers high digging/lift forces and allows all three boom functions to be operated simultaneously and proportionally. It provides smooth, logical control of the boom and work tools for greater accuracy and efficiency, especially when placing loads in challenging applications.
On the boom head, an auxiliary
double acting hydraulic circuit is installed as standard. The auxiliary double acting circuit means a wide range of hydraulically operated work tools can be used for attachments or the hydraulic quick coupler.
A selectable continuous auxiliary hydraulic flow is standard on all models for work tools such as brooms and auger. The flow is fully adjustable from 0 ~ 60 L/min (15.85 gal/min). Pump size is 150 L/min (39.63 gal/min).

Caterpillar® Power Train. The power train delivers ultimate performance in the toughest of working conditions.
Caterpillar® Engine. The TH514 features a reliable Caterpillar
®
turbo charged engine, which is certified to meet the new Stage IIIA (Tier 3) emission regulations. This engine is specially designed and built to meet the requirements of tough telehandler applications.

New Cooling Pack. The cooling pack has been relocated to rear of engine bay and is designed to work in the most challenging environments.
The new radiator is made up of 3 sections for improved cooling:
• Engine coolant
• Transmission oil
• Air to air charge cooler
The C4.4 ACERT™ engine has an additional fuel cooler fitted.
The sealing around radiator and hood is improved to reduce chaff ingress.

Caterpillar® Power Train
Transmission. The TH514 features a 4-speed
powersynchro transmission, which use a torque converter to transfer engine power to the transmission.
A transmission disconnect is incorporated in the joystick and can be activated when pressing the button of the joystick. Also as a selectable feature when applying the brake, the transmission will automatically disconnect.
Axles. Durable planetary axles are featured on the telehandlers providing 50° steering angle for outstanding maneuverability. These heavy-duty axles have a proven track record of reliable operation.

Available steering modes:
• 2-wheel steer for road transport and higher speeds
• 4-wheel steer allows excellent maneuvering in all other applications. Ideal for working in confined spaces like buildings and yards
• Crab steer for lateral side movements in tight places
In the front axle a limited slip differential is fitted as standard. No interaction is needed from the operator enabling him to concentrate on his job. The limited slip is designed to give added traction and comprises of two clutch packs on each side of the differential, transferring torque and power from the spinning to the gripping wheel. The permanent 4-wheel drive reduces the chance of slipping wheels even more.
In board wet disc brakes are built in the front axle. An independent disc parking brake is located on the transmission shaft. Three steering modes are available to the operator and can easily be selected by pressing the keypad on the dashboard. Steer

Work Tools
Cat® Telehandlers are very versatile machines. One Cat® Telehandler and a selection of quick-change Work Tools is all you need to keep your work rates high.
Optionally a hydraulic quick coupler is available. This coupler can be factory fitted or retro fitted. The hydraulic quick coupler allows the operator to change the wide range of Cat available without leaving the cab, giving the operator facility to work quickly and efficiently.

Work Tools. A wide range of work tools, to meet most job site applications, extends the versatility of these machines. Built for performance and durability, these work tools deliver high productivity, long life and excellent value.
Coupler. The TH514 is fitted with a manual IT interface quick coupler. This means that the model is still compatible with existing Cat
®
Work Tools.
Hitch. A retrieval hitch is available for light duty and recovery work.
Access Platform. To add even more versatility, a fork-mounted access work platform is available for the TH514.
• Platform size — 2.4 m x 1.2 m (8 ft x 4 ft) is designed for ease of transport.
• Maximum capacity — 453.6 kg (1,000 lb). Designed with multiple lanyard anchor point.

Serviceability. Extended service intervals and the reduction in service parts give Cat low operating costs.
The fuel tank capacity is 150 liters (39.63 gal). This large capacity is enough for a long working day.
All service points are readily accessible and major components are at ground level due to overall machine design.
Serviceability
Service access points are conveniently located under the engine cover. Fuel fill is located on the cab side with a lockable cover.
Routine daily maintenance is now reduced to checking fluid levels and a walk-around inspection.
The hydraulic oil level can be checked on the hot or cold level site glass mounted on the hydraulic tank.
