Disposal of packaging
The transport and protective packing is mostly manufactured from the following re-usable materials:
. . . Corrugated paper / card - mostly from recycled materials. . . . Polyethylene foil (PE) partly from secondary raw materials.
Rather than just throwing these materials away, please take them to the nearest local authority collection point for specific waste.
Disposal of your old machine
Old machines contain materials which can be recycled. Please contact your local authorities or scrap merchant about potential recycling schemes, before disposing of the appliance.

Warning and Safety Instructions

Warning and Safety Instructions
This appliance complies with all relevant legal safety requirements. Improper use of the appliance can, however, present a risk of both personal injury and material damage. Before installation and before using the appliance for the first time read the operating instructions carefully. They give information on safety, on the operation and care of the appliance. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance.
This appliance is intended for do-
mestic use. Should it be installed for commercial use the relevant regulations must be observed.
For safety reasons, this appliance
must only be operated as a built-in appliance. This is necessary to ensure that all electric components are shielded.
The electrical safety of the ap-
pliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system which complies with local and national regulations. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is regulary tested by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer can not be held responsible for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system.
Installation work and repairs may
only be carried out by suitably qualified and competent engineers to ensure safety. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
Do not connect the appliance to the
mains electricity supply by an extension lead. Extension leads do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance.
Please ensure that the domestic
supply corresponds to the information on the machine’s data plate.
The appliance is only completely
isolated from the electricity supply when it is switched off at the wall socket, or the mains fuse is withdrawn. Do not pull by the mains cable, but by the plug when withdrawing the plug from the socket.
The distance between the grill and a
cooker hood should be at least 650 mm. Exercise caution when using a cooker hood or downdraught extractor. Australia: 600 mm!
The grill must only be operated with
the stainless steel lid EA 80 fitted. When open (see illustration page 3) it forms a heat and backsplash shield.
Never switch on the grill when the
heating elements are raised. This could set fire to easily inflammable objects near the grill.
Do not let small children touch the
appliance during operation. Danger of burning. Supervise use of the grill by the elderly or infirm.
Never leave the grill unattended
when burning off residues from the elements. Residues of food such as meat which drop on to the lava rocks could flare up, the flames be drawn in by the extractor and be aggravated by the grease on the filter. This is a fire hazard.

Warning and Safety Instructions
Warning and Safety Instructions
Do not leave the appliance unat-
tended when cooking with oils and fats as these are fire hazards if overheated.
Always ensure that food is suffi-
ciently cooked or reheated. Many factors will affect the overall cooking time, including the size and amount of food, its temperature and changes to the recipe. Some foods may contain micro organisms which are only destroyed by thorough cooking, therefore when cooking or reheating foods, e.g. poultry, select a longer cooking or reheating time.
Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any future user.
Disposal of discarded appliances
Before disposal of an old ap-
pliance, turn off at the mains, disconnect and remove the appliance cable at both ends and render useless. This is intended to prevent the discarded appliance from being a hazard.
It is essential to ensure that food
has been evenly and sufficiently heated. To check that it is thoroughly cooked, turn during cooking if necessary.
When using kitchen appliances
connected to sockets near the grill ensure that the cable cannot touch the hot grill. This is a fire hazard.
Under no circumstances use a
steam-cleaning appliance to clean the grill. The steam could penetrate to live components and cause a short circuit.
In countries which may be subject
to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the appliance and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which might be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the appliance guarantee.
The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by noncompliance with safety instructions.

Operation

Operation
The grill is divided into two heating areas. Each element is regulated by an energy control. When the controls are switched on the relevant indicator light will come on. The power of the heating elements can be freely adjusted.
Grilling and keeping food warm
The separate control of the two parts of the grill makes it possible, . . .
. . . to grill meat etc. on the front area, . . . and keep already grilled food hot
on the rear area.
Switching the grill on
Switch the grill on by turning one or both controls to a setting.
The controls can be turned either clockwise or anti-clockwise.
The heating element indicator light comes on.
The figures 1-12 are settings. From settings 1-11 respectively, the heating element becomes progressively hotter and the selected temperature is automatically controlled.
On setting 12, the heating element is fully heated and brought to glowing point.
For example sausages can be grilled and then kept hot.
See the chart on page 9 for a more detailed description of which setting to use for which foods.
The grill is fitted with two removable stainless steel racks. By turning the racks over, it is possible to grill at two different heights over the heating elements. Select
the lower rack position for flat foodstuffs.
the higher rack position for larger items of food which take longer to cook.
After grilling / keeping food hot
To switch the grill off
Turn the controls back to setting ”0“. The indicator lights go out.
If there is heavy soiling on the heating element
turn the controls to setting ”12“. Any food remains should be completely burnt off after about 10 minutes.
Turn the controls back to setting ”0“. Should any particles still remain, they can be removed with a wire brush.

Grilling

Grilling over lava rock
Before beginning to operate the grill, remove the grill racks and raise the heating elements. Take the lava rock out of its bag and put it into the lava rock container.
We recommend that the heating elements are pre-heated at setting ”12“ for approx. 5 minutes.
This way the food to be grilled also receives heat radiated from the lava rock.
Meat can be lightly brushed with oil before grilling.
If you wish to add herbs to food for grilling, they can be sprinkled directly on to the meat or on to the lava rock, so that the aroma reaches the foodstuff.
The lava rocks . . . . . . absorb the fat which drops on to them, . . . are saturated with oil when the stones become dark. The rocks should then be changed.
Smoke will form when fat drops on to the hot lava rocks. With the DA 8 extractor situated next to the grill, the smoke can be removed from the atmosphere.
Grilling
Grilling over the water trough
Before switching on the heating elements:
remove the lava rock container from the grill interior.
Check that the drain tap underneath is closed then fill the grill trough with approx. 2 litres of hot water, up to the lower marker rim.
We recommend pre-heating the heating elements at setting ”12“ for approx. 5 minutes.
This way food to be grilled is also heated by the steam. The grill trough will also be easier to clean.
Meat can be brushed with oil before being grilled.
Drops of fat are cooled immediately in the water trough, so that they cannot catch alight.
When grilling, watch the level of water in the trough; if necessary, add more water.
After grilling, drain away the water and oil through the drain tap (see ”Cleaning and Care“).

Cleaning and Care

Grill racks
The grill racks can be washed . . . . . . by hand, in a solution of washingup liquid or . . . in a dishwasher .
If, after a while the racks become brown, the residue can be removed with a stainless steel cleaner.
Cleaning and Care
Grill interior
After grilling over the water trough, the liquid is drained out of the grill interior via the drain tap.
If the water is still hot, be careful when draining; if necessary, cool it down by adding cold water.
Grill Elements
After grilling residual meat and fat can be burnt off the heating element.
Turn the control to setting ”12“.
This can result in fat which may have built up in the lava rock burning off with an open flame.
Be careful when using a DA 8 extractor and do not leave the grill unattended during this cleaning process! Any food remains should be completely burnt off after about 10 minutes. Remove any stubborn remains with a wire brush.
Place a heat resistant container beneath the drain tap.
To open the tap, turn the lever 90° clockwise.
To close it turn the lever anti-clockwise as far as it will go.
After cleaning remember to close the tap again.
The grill interior should be cleaned with hot water and washing up liquid.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or caustic cleaners.
Facia panel / Control knobs
Do not use any scouring agents or pads on the knobs or facia, as these could cause damage.
Clean the control knobs and the facia panel with hot water and a little washing up liquid. After cleaning rub dry with a soft cloth.
