Warning and safety instructions
Warning and safety instructions
This machine meets all statutory safety requirements. Improper use may cause accidents and damage to the machine. Before installation and before using the machine for the first time, read the operating instructions carefully. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance. Keep the operating instructions in a safe place.
Specified use of the machine
This thermal disinfector is only
authorised for the applications mentioned in the operating instructions. Do not use for purposes other than those for which it was designed, as this might be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use of the machine.
Please note the following in order to prevent accidents
Commissioning and repairs should
only be carried out by suitably qualified and competent Miele service technicians. Repairs by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
Do not install the machine where
there is the risk of explosion.
The electrical safety of this ma-
chine can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system. It is imperative that this basic safety requirement is tested and, where there is any doubt, the electrical system should be checked by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by the lack or inadequacy of an effective earthing system (e.g. electric shock).
A damaged machine poses a
safety risk. Disconnect the machine immediately from the mains supply and inform a suitably qualified service technician.
Repair work may only be carried
out by an authorised, suitably competent person. Repairs by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
Personnel operating the machine
should be trained regularly. Children and untrained personnel should not be allowed access to the machine or its controls.
Take care when handling liquid
cleaning agents/additives. These may contain irritants or corrosive substances. Do not use organic solvents as there may be the danger of explosion. Carefully follow the relevant safety instructions on packaging and wear protective gloves and goggles.
5
Page 6
Warning and safety instructions
Avoid inhaling powder dust.
The water in the machine must not be used as drinking water!
Do not sit or lean on the open door. This could cause the ma-
chine to tip and be damaged.
Be careful when sorting sharp
pointed instruments not to injure yourself. If necessary, place the pointed end downwards with the handles pointing upwards.
When using the machine at high
temperatures of 70–95°C take care as the load is extremely hot and may cause burns. Baskets and inserts must first be allowed to cool. Empty any water still remaining in concave items into the cabinet before removing the load.
Do not touch the heating elements
after the end of a programme as this may cause burns.
Never use a hose or a high-press-
ure cleaner on or in the vicinity of the machine.
Before carrying out repairs, discon-
nect the machine from the mains supply (switch off at the main socket and pull out the plug, switch off the appropriate circuit at the fuse-box or withdraw the mains fuse).
Please heed the following instructions in order to guarantee the quality of cleaning performance and to avoid damage.
The operator is responsible for
monitoring and guaranteeing the standard of disinfection in the routine disinfection process. Disinfection parameters should be checked regularly using chemical indicators and contamination levels checked and documented periodically using bioindicators.
The thermal disinfection pro-
gramme (DESIN 93°C-3’) – with a 3-minute holding time – is only suitable as a prophylactic measure to combat infection if the requirements of each individual application are closely observed.
Disinfection programmes must not
be interrupted, as this may impair the disinfection results. Should interruption be unavoidable, the whole programme must be repeated.
Only use detergents which have
been tested and recommended by Miele for use in cleaner/disinfectors. Use of other cleaning agents may cause damage to both the load and the machine.
Prior treatment (e.g. with detergent
or disinfectant), but also certain types of soil and some detergents may cause foaming which may have an adverse effect on the quality of cleaning and disinfection.
6
Page 7
Warning and safety instructions
The recommendation of specific
chemical products (e.g. detergent) for individual applications does not mean that the appliance manufacturer accepts responsibility for any effect these may have on the articles being processed. Please note that variations in formulation, storage conditions, etc. which are not always announced by the detergent manufacturer, may affect the quality of the cleaning results.
Only use water and cleaning
agents in a thermal disinfector. Do not use organic solvents as there may be a danger of explosion (Note: There are many organic solvents which do not pose a risk of explosion, but may cause other problems, such as damage to elastomers and plastic components).
In the case of critical applications
requiring a particularly high standard of cleaning and disinfection, cleaning programmes and parameters (detergent, quality of water, etc.) should be coordinated with the Miele Application Technology Department.
If a particularly high standard of
cleaning and rinsing is required (e. g. chemical analysis, special industrial production, etc.), regular quality checks must take place to guarantee the correct standard of cleaning.
Use special inserts in accordance with the instructions provided.
Empty all concave items before placing them in the machine.
Do not allow any acid or solvent
residue, especially hydrochloric acid and solutions containing chloride to get into the wash cabinet. This also applies to ferrous components susceptible to corrosion. Solvent introduced with the soil should only be present in traces. This is particularly the case in high-risk areas.
Take care that solutions/vapours
containing hydrochloric acid do not come into contact with the stainlesssteel casing, as this may cause corrosion.
Please heed installation instruc-
tions and refer to the installation diagram supplied with the machine.
Accessories
Use special inserts in accordance
with the instructions provided.
The only accessories to be used
with the special commercial machine must be those supplied or approved by MIELE for the specific application. Consult your dealer or the Miele Professional department for advice.

Warning and safety instructions
Disposal of an old machine
When disposing of an old machine
first make it unusable. Disconnect, cut off the cable and any plug from the cable. For environmental and safety reasons ensure the machine is completely drained of any residue water and cleaning agent. (Observe safety regulations and wear safety goggles and gloves). Make the door lock inoperative, so that children cannot accidentally shut themselves in. The simplest way to do this is to remove the locking pin (2 philips screws above the door). Make appropriate arrangements for the safe disposal of the machine. For tank system machines ensure that any water is emptied out of the tank.
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the machine and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the machine guarantee.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any damage caused through non-observance of these Warning and Safety instructions.

To avoid the build up of calcareous deposits on both the load and the machine, the water needs to be softened if supply hardness is over 6°d (1.07 mmol/l).
To ensure a steady supply of soft water, the built-in water softener must always be:
1. Correctly set
2. Topped up with salt as soon as the
k indicator light goes on.
When commissioning a machine, the water softener must be set to correspond with the water supply hardness.
Your local water authority will advise you on the water supply hardness in your area.
Setting the water softener
The hardness range is divided into 18 increments and a zero position. The thermal disinfector is set at the factory for a water hardness time setting "8", corresponding to 19°d (3.38 mmol/l). If your water supply is harder or softer than this, then:
Change the setting at the controls (see table).

Loading the machine
Prior to loading
Empty all items before placing them in the machine (if applicable, observe regulations on preventing the spread of contagious diseases).
Application technology
Loading the top basket
Insert small, lightweight and delicate items and heat-resistant plastic.
Loading the bottom basket
Insert large, heavy items.
Do not allow any acid or solvent residue, especially hydrochloric acid and solutions containing chloride to get into the wash cabinet.
Notes
Load utensils so that water can access all surfaces. This ensures that items will be thoroughly cleaned.
Do not place items inside each other where they may be concealed.
Hollow items must be inverted.
Deep-based items should be placed at an angle to enable water to run off freely.
Tall hollow items should be placed in the centre of the basket to allow water easier access.
Mobile units or baskets with a watercircuit adapter must connect properly.
Cutlery
Unsorted cutlery should be placed in a cutlery basket, handles pointing downwards.
Important note:
When a basket or mobile injector unit with a spring-loaded water-circuit adapter is used, it must connect properly when inserted in the thermal disinfector, i.e. it must be set 4-5 mm higher so that it is forced downwards by the connection in the roof of the machine. If this is not the case, adjust the adapter as follows:
Loosen the clamping ring.
Push the adapter up (4-5 mm higher than the water connection in the machine) and then tighten the clamping ring again.
The rotation of the spray arms must not be obstructed by items which are too high for the basket or which hang down in their path. If necessary, manually rotate the arms to test.

Page 19
Adding detergent Programme selection
Adding detergent Programme selection
For environmental reasons, please observe the following criteria when selecting an appropriate detergent:
Always select a programme appropriate to the type of load and the degree of soil.
What degree of alkalinity is required to solve the cleaning problem?
Is active chlorine necessary for disinfection or oxidation (removal of pigment)?
Are tensides required for dispersion and emulsification?
A suitable mildly alkaline detergent free of active chlorine should be used for thermal disinfection programmes.
Special types of soil may require different detergent compositions and additives. The MIELE Service Department (Application Technology) will be pleased to advise you.
Note
This machine can also be fitted with a
"DOS C 60 module" (dispenser pump
for liquid detergent). This is connected externally.
The different programmes and their applications are described overleaf in the
Programme chart.
A separate set of with
an installation diagram is included with the DOS module.
Take great care when handling liquid agents/additives! They may contain irritants or caustic substances. Please follow the relevant safety measures. Wear protective goggles and gloves.

Reactivating the water softener
Reactivating the water softener
– Only applicable for machines with a built-in water softener –
When the k indicator light on the left hand side of the control panel comes on during a programme the built-in water softener is depleted and cannot supply any more softened water. It must therefore be reactivated with washer salt as soon as the programme has finished.
If this cannot be done immediately, and further batches have been washed, then the reactivation process must be carried out twice in succession.
Only use special coarse grained dish-washer salt (granule size approx. 1-4 mm), for reactivation, as other salts may contain insoluble impurities or additives which can impair the functioning of the softener.
The salt container holds approx. 2 kg salt.
dish-
Filling the salt container
Never fill the salt reservoir with dishwasher cleaning agent this can lead to – damage to the water softener and – blockage of the salt container
filter insert, resulting in a build up
of pressure in the salt reservoir. The irritant alkali solution could be a hazard and personal injury could be caused when the salt container is removed. Make sure that you have picked up the right packet of before filling the salt container.
dishwasher salt
Important
If only reactivation salt with a finer grain is available, please consult the Miele Service Dept. Reactivation salt with a grain size of more than 4 mm cannot be used. Ground rock salt is not suitable for reactivation.
26
Unscrew the filter insert from the salt container and remove.
Fill the salt container with granular dishwasher salt and screw the filter
insert back in place.
Page 31
Reactivating the water softener
Position the salt container as follows:
Remove the bottom basket from the cabinet.
Unscrew the water softener cap at the base of the cabinet.
Reactivating the water softener
Switch on the machine
Open the stopcocks. Close the door. Press the I-0 button. Press the k touchpad. Press the h "Start" touchpad.
The reactivation programme proceeds automatically and finishes when the warning LED k on the left-hand side of the fascia panel and the "Start" LED h switch off.
Then:
Switch off the machine. Unscrew the salt container carefully, so that any water pressure that has built up can be released. Do not use force. If you cannot uncrew the salt container by hand, contact the Miele Service department. Replace the softener cap and screw it tight. Reposition the bottom basket. Rinse the salt container and filter insert thoroughly. Turn off the stopcocks.
Place the salt container on the reactivation socket and screw firmly into place.
Important
Water pressure (flow pressure) must be at least 2.5 bar. If flow pressure is below 2.5 bar, see "Programming special functions". The water softener cannot be reactivated in the normal way if flow pressure is below 2.5 bar or if it fluctuates. After reactivation, salt residue may still be found in the salt container. To use up the salt remains and to rinse out the salt container, the "Reactivate softener" programme must be switched on again.

Correcting minor faults
Correcting minor faults
Repairs to electrical components should only be carried out by a suitably qualified technician. Improper repairs may pose a serious risk to the user.
The following explanatory notes, however, show how some minor faults can be rectified without calling in a service technician.
Faults / possible causes
The thermal disinfector does not start
– The door is not properly closed.
– The machine is not plugged in.
– The fuse has blown.
A few minutes after switching on, the p q indicator flashes
– The stopcocks are turned off.
The water in the wash cabinet is not heated; the programme sequence lasts too long
This thermal disinfector has a resettable thermal cut-out which switches the heater elements off in the case of overheating. This could be caused, for example, if large objects cover the heater elements or if the filters in the wash cabinet are blocked.
Remove the cause of the fault.
Take off the service panel (see "Electrical connection").
– The filters in the water inlet hose are
dirty.
Switch off the machine. Open the stopcocks or clean the filters (see "Cleaning and care"). Switch on the machine again and restart the programme.
The wash cycle finishes too early and the p q indicator flashes
– The drain hose is kinked.
– The door was opened and closed
again during the programme cycle.
– There was a power failure.
Rectify the fault if possible. Drain the machine and restart the programme (see "Interrupting a programme").
30
Press in the re-set button (blue) on the thermal cut-out.
If the thermal cut-out trips repeatedly, the MIELE Service Department must be contacted.
If it is not possible to remedy a fault by following the instructions given above, the MIELE Service Department must be contacted.

Installation
Installation
Please refer to the installation diagram supplied with the machine
The machine must stand firmly on the ground and be levelled accordingly. Floor unevenness can be compensated for by adjusting the leg levellers.
Installation options for this machine are as follows:
Freestanding
Slot-in or end-of-row:
The thermal disinfector should be installed adjacent to other appliances and furniture or in a recess at least 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep.
Built under:
Install the machine under a continuous worktop or under a draining board. The recess dimensions should be at least 60 x 60 x 82 cm (W x D x H).
The machine lid must be removed as follows:
Open the door.
Remove the fixing screws on the left and right-hand sides, using a Phillips screwdriver.
Pull the machine lid forwards by approx. 5 mm and remove by lifting upwards.
By removing the lid, the machine can be built into an 82 cm high recess. If the recess height is 87 cm, a conversion kit is required.
Important for machines with a steam condenser:
In order to prevent steam from damaging the worktop, the self-adhesive foil (25 x 58 cm) must be applied to the underside of the worktop in the area of the steam condenser.
31

Aligning and bolting the machine
To guarantee stability, the thermal disinfector must first be aligned and then bolted to the worktop.
Open the door. Screw the machine to the continuous worktop through each of the two holes on the left and right-hand side of the front strip.
When installing built-under appliances, do not use silicone sealant to seal the gaps between the machine and any adjacent units, as this would hinder ventilation of the circulation pump.
Depending on the various buildingunder requirements, the following are available from the MIELE Service Department:
87 cm recess height
This kit consists of longer machine feet and a plinth plate.

Caring for the environment
Caring for the environment
Disposal of the packing material
The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.
Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure they are offered for recycling.
Disposal of your old machine
Old machines contain materials which can be re-cycled. Please contact your local authorities or scrap merchant about potential recycling schemes, before disposing of the machine.
When disposing of an old machine first make it unusable. The simplest way to do this is to remove the locking pin (2 screws above the door). Make appropriate arrangements for the safe disposal of the machine. For tank system machines ensure that any water is emptied out of the tank.
