Warning and safety instructions
Installation and connection
The appliance must be installed
and connected by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with local and national electrical and plumbing safety regulations. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by incorrect installation or connection.
The electrical safety of this
appliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system which complies with local and national safety regulations. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is present and tested regularly, and where there is any doubt, the household wiring system should be inspected by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electric shock).
Do not connect the appliance to
the mains electricity supply by an extension lead. Extension leads do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).
This equipment is not designed for
maritime use or for use in mobile installations such as caravans, aircraft etc. However it may be suitable for such usage subject to a risk assessment of the installation being carried out by a suitably qualified engineer.
The top edge of the appliance door
should not be above eye level. If it is too high, you will find it difficult to access all levels safely when putting dishes into the oven and taking them out, and there is a danger of food spillages and possible scalding.
9
Warning and safety instructions
Correct usage
Before using the appliance for the
first time, read the operating instructions carefully. They contain important notes on the safety, operation and care of the appliance. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance.
For safety reasons this appliance
must only be operated after it has been built in. This is necessary to ensure that all electrical components are shielded.
This appliance is intended for
domestic use only and is not to be used for commercial purposes.
This appliance must only be used
as described in these instructions. Any other usage is at the owner's risk and could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by incorrect or improper use of the appliance.
Do not use the appliance without
the drain filter in the bottom of the oven cavity in place; otherwise coarse soiling could get into the drainage system and pump, causing a blockage.
Descaling must only be carried out
on a cold appliance; otherwise harmful vapours can form. See "Descaling" section.
Wipe out the appliance with a cloth
after each use and leave the door open until the moisture in the cooking compartment has dissipated.
If the appliance is not going to be
used for a longer period of time, e.g. whilst on holiday, it should be thoroughly cleaned beforehand to prevent the build up of odours etc. Proceed as described under "Cleaning and Care" and "Before using for the first time". Leave the door open afterwards.
Make sure that the stopcock is
open before using the appliance. After switching off the appliance remember to close the stopcock to avoid any risk of water damage.
10
Warning and safety instructions
Safety with children
The appliance must be installed at
such a height that small children cannot reach the appliance door, which gets very hot during use.
Use the safety lock to prevent
children operating the appliance or altering the settings.
The appliance is only intended for
use by adults who have read these operating instructions. Keep children well away. They will not understand the potential danger of touching the appliance. It is therefore important to supervise children at all times.
This appliance is not a toy. Do not
allow children to play with it.
The appliance becomes very hot
during use and remains hot for some time after switching off. To safeguard against burning, keep children out of the vicinty of the appliance until it has cooled down.
Warning: Take care in the area around the hinges. Danger of
injury! Keep children well away.
Food packaging (e.g. cling film,
polystyrene) and plastic wrappings must be kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation. Dispose of all packaging safely as soon as possible.
11
Warning and safety instructions
Protecting the appliance from damage
Do not use the appliance to heat
up food in sealed jars and tins. Pressure will build up inside them and they can explode causing damage to the appliance, as well as the risk of injury and scalding.
Do not leave cooked foods
standing in the oven for an unneccessary length of time. This is to prevent condensation building up which could cause corrosion to the appliance.
Do not use metallic containers or
utensils in the oven which are likely to rust. This can cause corrosion.
Do not use a steam cleaner to
clean this appliance. The steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit. Pressurised steam could also cause permanent damage to the surface and to other components, for which the manufacturer cannot accept liability.
On aluminium framed appliances
with a glass lift-up door, the frames as well as the lift-up door handle are made from aluminium which is susceptible to damage by abrasive, alkaline and acidic cleaning agents. Do not use cleaning agents for stainless steel on these surfaces. It is essential to follow the cleaning instructions given in the paragraph "Appliance front" in "Cleaning and care". Soiling should be wiped off as soon as possible after using the appliance. If the soiling is left for a long time, it can have a damaging effect on the aluminium surfaces.
The appliance is designed to
detect and then self-correct certain operational faults. If a fault is detected, the fault messages F01 to F61 will appear in the display. The door of the appliance can only be opened when the fault message is flashing in the display. If the fault message is not flashing, the appliance is still processing the fault. See "Problem solving guide" for further information.
12
Warning and safety instructions
Protection from burning and scalding
The appliance, especially the door,
becomes extremely hot during use, and remains hot for some time after switching off. Be careful only to touch the door button and door handle when the oven door is hot.
For added protection, it is
advisable to use heat-resistant pot holders or gloves when using the appliance. Do not let them get damp or wet, as this causes heat to transfer through the material more quickly with the risk of burning yourself.
On models which are not fitted in
combination with an oven, pull out the shelf underneath the appliance before opening the door. You can place hot containers on the shelf and it will also collect any drops of hot water.
On no account attempt to force the door open during a programme.
The door may only be opened when:
- the cooling down phase is finished,
- the audible tone has sounded,
- the g symbol in the time display flashes.
Otherwise there is a danger of burning or scalding. Attempts to open the door before a programme has run its course will cause an alarm to sound, and the word door to appear in the time display.
When putting dishes into the oven
or taking them out, take care not to spill the contents. Do not come into contact with hot steam. Danger of scalding.
When cooking food which has a
tendency to boil over, e.g. soup, casseroles etc, the cooking temperatures selected must not exceed 100 °C. Otherwise there could be a danger of scalding when the door is opened.
If bottling, do not exceed a cooking
temperature of 95 °C (90 °C where the appliance is installed higher than 1000 m above sea level). Higher temperatures can cause the jars to shatter. Danger of injury.
13
Warning and safety instructions
Appliance faults
In the event of damage or a defect,
switch off the appliance immediately. Close the stopcock and disconnect from the mains electricity supply. Contact the Service Department. The appliance is only completely isolated from the electricity supply when it is switched off at the wall socket, or the mains fuse is withdrawn or the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is applicable). Ensure that current is not supplied to the appliance until after maintenance or repair work has been carried out.
Repairs may only be carried out by
a service technician authorised by the manufacturer. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be very dangerous and invalidate the guarantee. Never open the housing of the appliance.
Further safety notes
When using an electric socket near
the oven, care should be taken that the cable of the electrical appliance cannot get trapped by the oven door. The insulation on the cable could become damaged, giving rise to an electric shock hazard.
Always ensure that food is
sufficiently cooked. Many factors will affect the overall cooking time, including the size and amount of food and its temperature. Some foods may contain micro-organisms which are only destroyed by cooking at a sufficiently high temperature for long enough.
Warning: Take care in the area
around the hinges. Danger of injury.
Do not use plastic containers.
These melt at high temperatures.
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the appliance and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the appliance guarantee.
14
Caring for the environment
Disposal of packing material
The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.
Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.
Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure that they are recycled.
Disposal of your old appliance
Old appliances contain materials which can be reclaimed or recycled. Please contact your dealer, your local waste collection centre or scrap merchant about available recycling schemes.
Ensure that the appliance presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.
Before discarding an old appliance, switch off and disconnect it from the power supply. Cut off and render any plug useless. Cut off the cable directly behind the appliance to prevent misuse. This should be done by a competent person.
15
Before using for the first time
Do not be concerned if your appliance makes some unusual noises. They occur when the steam generating unit is being filled or emptied out and when pumping is taking place.
You will also be able to hear the fan which continues to operate after you have finished cooking. The fan will switch off as soon as the appliance has cooled down.
Please stick the extra data plate supplied with this appliance in the space provided at the end of the "Services" section of these instructions.
Keep these instructions handy for reference whilst using the steam oven. Please pass them on to any future user.
16
Before using for the first time

Practical tips
Suitable containers
Stainless steel cooking containers are supplied with the appliance. Other containers, in a variety of sizes, both perforated and solid, are available as optional extras. When choosing the most suitable container for the particular food you are cooking, please note:
Use perforated cooking containers
whenever possible, e.g. for cooking vegetables. The steam can reach the food from all sides and the food is cooked evenly.
– With large items of food, such as
whole potatoes, the steam can work effectively because there are spaces between the individual pieces into which the steam can penetrate. This way a large quantity will take the same time to cook as a smaller amount and large, deep containers can be used. Where possible, space the food out to allow the steam more room.
You will find various tips on how to use the steam oven in the following sections or in the cook book (see "Accessories").
You can also use your own containers and dishes. However, please note the following:
The container must be heat resistant
to 120 °C. Heat-resistant glass, ceramics, porcelain (chinaware), stainless steel and enamel dishes are all suitable.
Food will take considerably longer to
cook than the time quoted if the dish has thick sides.
– Place the dish onto the flat, solid
container.
– Ensure that the dish does not touch
the walls of the cooking compartment so that steam can reach the food from all sides.
More compact dishes such as casseroles or bakes, or food such as peas or asparagus spears which have little or no space between them will take longer to cook because the steam has less space to work in. The fuller the container, the longer it will take to cook. It is best to use 2 or 3 flat containers rather than one deep one for these types of foods, and then fill them only 3 - 5 cm deep. Cooking times quoted are calculated on this principle. Deeper dishes will take longer to cook.

Tips on steaming
We recommend using:
Steam with pressure ° 120 °C for robust food, e.g. firm vegetables, pulses, stock etc. Steam without pressure P 100 °C for delicate food, e.g. fruit, delicate vegetables, fish etc.
Steam prevents food from drying out
so it remains moist and juices are not lost. This applies to a wide variety of food, including dumplings, steam puddings, fish and meat dishes, as well as vegetables.
– You can select any runner level. You
can also cook on several levels at the same time. This will not alter the cooking time.
– Food does not brown or get crisp
from over-cooking. Cheese melts perfectly without getting burnt. It is a healthy way of cooking, and food retains its flavours better than with conventional cooking.
When cooking frozen food, e.g.
vegetables, ensure that any large clumps frozen together are broken up first so that they cook evenly. The cooking time is approximately the same as for fresh vegetables.
Cooking with steam retains the true
taste of the food better than conventional cooking. food should therefore be seasoned after it has been cooked.
Cooking liquids do not boil away.
They are either absorbed by the food, as with rice and pasta, or they remain in the dish to form a sauce, as with casseroles. The sauce can then be thickened or added to after cooking.
– Grease perforated containers
beforehand if used for cooking fish in its skin, and solid containers if used for cooking dishes containing eggs.
32
Practical tips
When cooking meat without adding
any additional liquid to the container, the meat juices can be used to make gravy or as the basis for a sauce. Put the meat and other ingredients like vegetables, in a perforated container. Place a solid container underneath to catch the juice.
If you wish to add additional liquid
when cooking meat using Steam with pressure °, it is very important not to add too much liquid as this can cause the container to boil over. If necessary add liquid, e.g. stock, after cooking.
When using Steam with pressure
°, cooking will only take approx. half the time it would take in a conventional oven.
To avoid any transfer of tastes
caused by moisture dripping down from above, solid containers should be placed above any perforated containers.

Practical tips
Frozen food can be defrosted using steam in this appliance. Defrosting this way takes much less time than when defrosting at room temperature.
Proceed as follows:
Place the food to be defrosted in the
^
appliance. Set the Defrost programme N.
^
Change the pre-set recommended
^
temperature if necessary (see chart) . Set the duration (see chart).
^ ^ Press the Start/Stop button.
Tips on defrosting
– All meat and poultry should be fully
defrosted before cooking. When defrosting meat or poultry, place the food in a perforated container and place the solid container underneath to catch the defrosted liquid, so that the meat is not lying in this liquid.
Fish does not need to be fully
defrosted before cooking. Defrost so that the surface is sufficiently thawed to take herbs and seasoning.
Turn, stir or separate food about
half-way through the defrosting time. Allow food to stand at room
temperature at the end of the defrosting time. This standing time (see chart) is necessary to ensure that the food is fully defrosted right through to the core.
Do not refreeze food once it has
thawed.
– Defrost deep frozen pre-cooked
meals according to the manufacturer's instructions.
– Defrost baked goods in a sealed
freezer bag.
It is particularly important to observe food hygiene rules when defrosting poultry. Do not use the liquid from defrosted poultry. Pour it away and wash the container, tray, sink and your hands. Danger of salmonella.
Food which will not drip can be placed in a perforated container once the wrapping has been removed.
36
Meal planning
It is very economical and practical to cook a whole meal at the same time in the steam oven.
In general, the cooking times will vary according to the type of food. This means that you will need to open the steam oven at different times to add a particular dish. Our test kitchen recommends the following procedure, as shown in this example (Steam with pressure °).
Lamb stew with a dill sauce 8 minutes Potatoes 8 minutes Carrots 4 minutes
Proceed as follows:
^ First place the dish with the longest
cooking duration in this example, both the lamb stew and the potatoes in the oven.
Practical tips

Safety features
Normally, steam pressure and temperature will be regulated automatically by the appliance. However, if a fault should occur, the appliance is fitted with two safety features which protect against the pressure getting too high (safety valve and pressure release) and also an overheating protection device which protects against the temperature rising too high.
Please note that the safety valve should be replaced after 1 to 2 years (see "Cleaning and care").
The safety valve and the pressure release can operate individually or, in some isolated circumstances, simultaneously.
Safety devices must not be altered or tampered with.
Safety valve
The safety valve w is located in the handle. If pressure builds up in the cooking compartment, the safety valve trips and steam is released from the handle to the left-hand side.
Proceed as follows:
Press the Start/Stop button.
^
Wait until the cooling down phase
^
has been completed (see section “Interrupting a programme”).
Use a blunt tool, e.g. a screwdriver,

Cleaning and care
General notes
Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.
Clean the whole appliance and then dry it thoroughly after each use.
Make sure the appliance is completely dry before closing the door.
Do not use a steam cleaner to clean this appliance. The steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit. Pressurised steam could also cause permanent damage to the surface and to components, for which the manufacturer cannot accept liability.
Never use cleaners containing alkalines, soda, acids or chlorides, oven sprays, dishwasher detergents or abrasive cleaning agents, hard brushes, scouring pads and cloths or steel wool. You should also not use sponges etc. which have previously been used with abrasive cleaning agents. These would damage the surface.
E-Cloth
A microfibre "E-Cloth" is available from the Miele UK Spare Parts Department, Part number 98013530, which is suitable for cleaning surfaces such as stainless steel, glass, plastic and chrome without the use of chemicals.
Appliance front
The controls and any glass surfaces should be cleaned using a mild solution of hot water with a little washing up liquid, applied with a damp cloth. Wipe dry using a soft cloth. For appliances with glass fronts, a proprietary glass cleaning agent may be used.
On aluminium framed appliances with a glass lift-up door, the frames as well as the lift-up door handle are made from aluminium which is susceptible to damage by abrasive, alkaline and acidic cleaning agents. It is essential to clean these with care as described above. Do not use cleaning agents for stainless steel on these surfaces. Soiling should be wiped off as soon as possible after using the oven. If the soiling is left for a long time, it can have a damaging effect on the aluminium surfaces.
Stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned using a proprietary cleaner for stainless steel. Apply following the direction of the "grain". If desired you could use a suitable proprietary conditioning agent for stainless steel afterwards which is designed to prevent water marks and smears from staining the surface. After cleaning the surfaces apply the conditioning agent sparingly over the whole area. Cleaning and conditioning agents for stainless steel are available from good retail outlets.
45
Cleaning and care
Cooking containers and drain filter
The cooking containers and drain filter should be washed and dried each time they are used.
Soak any stubborn soiling first before removing with a soft brush.
They are all dishwasher safe.
Door seal
Clean and dry the door seal by hand using a mild solution of hot water with a little washing up liquid, applied with a damp cloth, after each use. Wipe dry using a soft cloth. Do not clean the seal in a dishwasher.
The door seal should be replaced every 1-2 years, depending upon frequency of use.
Safety valve
The safety valve should be replaced every 1-2 years, depending upon frequency of use.
Proceed as follows:
Open the door.
^
Remove the old safety valve from the
^
inside of the door. Fit the new safety valve. Make sure
^
that the door seal fits correctly.
46
Cleaning and care
Pull-out shelf and cooking compartment
The pull-out shelf (only on models which are not fitted in combination with an oven), the cooking compartment and the inside of the appliance door should be cleaned and dried after each use. Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.
Most cooking residues can be removed easily with a damp cloth and a mild solution of hot water and washing up liquid.
In areas where the water is very hard, a white deposit can build up on interior walls. This can be removed with a little vinegar on a damp cloth.
If the water supply in your area is very hard, discolouration can occur on the oven interior walls after prolonged use of the machine. These can be removed using a proprietary citric acid based descaling agent or with a combination cleaning agent designed for use on ceramic hobs and stainless steel.
Wipe the pull-out shelf and the cooking compartment out with clean water, and then rub dry.
To remove the pull-out shelf:
Pull the shelf out as far as possible.
^
Unscrew the two thumb nuts z.
^
Take the pull-out shelf off its runners
^
and then clean and dry it.
To replace the pull-out shelf:

nozzle back in again and replace the runners.
The steam oven can now be used again in the normal way.
If the fault message F05 reappears after the nozzle has been descaled, contact the Service Department.
50
Cleaning and care
Descaling
Descaling must be carried out on a cold appliance to prevent harmful vapours forming. Avoid contact with the the skin and do not inhale the vapours. If you do come into contact with descaling agent, it should be rinsed off immediately with plenty of fresh water. In the event of an adverse reaction or if it has been inhaled or ingested, seek medical help. Do not allow the descaling agent to come into contact with aluminium surfaces, as this could cause marks. Wipe up any spillages immediately. Always ensure that the container of descaling agent is firmly closed, and keep out of the reach of children.
If after switching on the appliance the k symbol shows in the left hand side of the programme/temperature display, the descaling programme k symbol appears and an alarm sounds, the steam generator should be descaled as soon as possible. Your appliance has a special descaling programme for this purpose.
Proceed as follows:
