- Do not expose the equipment to rain or moisture.
- Do not remove the cover from the equipment.

Your Marantz product has been prepared to comply with the household power and safety requirements that exist in your area. ST6001 can be powered by 230V AC only.

Do Not Locate in the Following Places
To ensure long-lasting use, do not locate the ST6001 where:
• Exposed to direct sunlight.
• Near to sources of heat such as heaters.
• Highly humid or poorly ventilated.
• Dusty.
• Subjected to mechanical vibrations.
• On wobbly, inclined or otherwise unstable surfaces
• Radiated heat is blocked such as in cramped audio racks.
Noise or disturbance of the picture may be generated if this unit or any other electronic equipment using microprocessors is used near a tuner or TV. If this happens, take the following steps:
• Install this unit as far as possible from the tuner or TV.
• Set the antenna wires from the tuner or TV away from this unit’s mains cord and input/output connection cords.
• Noise or disturbance tends to occur particularly when using indoor antennas or 300 /ohms feeder wires. We recommend using outdoor antennas and 75 /ohms coaxial cables.
Note
For heat dispersal, do not install this equipment in a confined space such as a book case or similar unit.

Press this button slightly longer (for more than 1.5 second) to file in manually stations name in the preset memory.
u TUNING MODE button
This button is used for selecting the manual tuning or the fine tuning mode. Fine tuning mode is available only in the FM band.
i TUNING 5∞ (UP/DOWN) button
This button used for tuning in the desired broadcasting stations or adjusting the time, or manual tuning, etc.
o CANCEL button
This button is used for canceling the program during manual file or adjusting the on/off time of the timer.
!3 TIMER SET button
This button is used for presetting the time when the system is turned on and off every day at a specified time.
!4 PRESET 5∞ (UP/DOWN) button
This button used for preset in the desired broadcasting stations.
!5 FM MODE button
This unit automatically switches into the STEREO mode when a FM stereo broadcast is received press this button to change the monaural mode, then the STEREO indicator will go out on the display.
!6 RDS button
When the FM RDS broadcasting is displayed, and it retrieves, this button is operated. (See page 9)
!7 BAND button
This button is used for selecting the FM, MW or LW broadcast.

This indicator lights up when the daily timer is engaged by pressing the TIMER SET button.

These indicators light up when receiving RDS broadcasts.

When the MEMO button is pressed, this indicator blinks for about 8 seconds.

Shows the selected preset number.

A variety of information is displayed on this indicator. Time, frequency, PS, PTY, RT, stations name by manual filing. etc.

Connect an external FM antenna with a coaxial cable, or a cable network FM source.
w AM antenna and ground terminals
Connect the supplied AM loop antenna. Use the terminals marked AM and GND. The supplied AM loop antenna will provide good AM reception in most areas. Position the loop antenna until you hear the best reception.

Connect the cable to a household power outlet (230V AC).

REMOTE CONTROL connector
Using the supplied remote control connecting cord, this connector enable this unit to be connected to a Marantz component equipped with remote control connectors. This connection make it possible to control an entire system that centers on the amplifier or other such component.

CAUTION:
Do not plug the power cord of any component into AC outlets and do not turn their POWER switches on until connections have been performed.
Note
Connect the tuner to other equipment in the below sequence to use the tuner.
1. Connect an FM antenna to the FM ANTENNA A terminal.
2. Connect an AM loop antenna to the AM ANTENNA terminals. The terminals do not have a particular polarity.
3. Connect the LINE OUT and REMOTE CONTROL connectors to their corresponding terminals on a stereo amplifier using

Assembling the AM loop antenna
1. Take out the connection
line.
2. Bend the base part in the
reverse direction.
3. Insert the hook at the
bottom of the loop part into the slot at the base part.
4. Place the antenna on a
stable surface.

Note
Do not plug in the mains cord until all connections have been completed.
When making connections, also refer to the operating instructions of the other components.
Be sure to connect the left and right channels properly (left with left, right with right).
Note that binding pin-plug cords together with mains cords or placing them near a power transformer will result in generating hum or other noise.
Even if an external AM antenna is used, do not disconnect the AM loop antenna.
Make sure AM loop antenna lead terminals do not touch metal parts of the panel.

Manual operation
For example: presetting FM 90.1 MHz, to Preset number. 10
1. Select the FM by using the BAND button !7.
2. Tune to 90.1 MHz by using the TUNING 5∞ button i.
3. Press the MEMO button !1 briefly (for less than 0.5
second) Then, MEMO will blink in the display.
4. Select the preset number by using the PRESET 5∞

Automatic operation
1. Select the desired broadcasting (FM, AM, or LW) by
using the BAND button !7.
2. Press the MEMO button !1 slightly longer than 1.5
second does. Then, broadcasting will be automatically received, and
as many broadcasting station are received well will be memorized preset number-01 after another.
3. Check the broadcasting station by using the PRESET
5∞ button !4.
Note
In the case of FM automatic presetting, the antenna A, B selector is set to “A” automatically,
And the broadcasting station is scanned twice. The stations that have stronger broadcasting signal are preset in the first time.; weaker ones are preset in the second time.
If a new broadcasting station is preset into a channel the broadcasting station which has been preset into that position area will be automatically erased.
In mountainous or remote area broadcasting stations which have weak broadcasting signals cannot be automatically preset into the memory.
Max. 30 broadcasting stations each for FM, AM(MW and LW) bands can be preset.
LISTENING TO RADIO
1. Select FM, AM, or LW by using the BAND button !7.
2. Tune to the desired broadcast by using the TUNING i
or PRESET 5∞ button !4.
3. FM broadcasting is set up to STEREO mode
If the broadcasting signal is weak, or if there is a large amount of interference in FM stereo broadcast, change the monaural mode by presetting the FM MODE button !5.
4. Select the IF BAND (FM bandwidth)
Select the NARROW bandwidth by pressing this button if the broadcast signal is interfered with adjacent broadcast in the FM .
FINE, MANUAL TUNING
This function used for selection the manual tuning of the fine tuning mode. Fine tuning mode is available only in the FM mode.
1. Press the TUNING MODE button u.
2. Every time you press this button, the following will be
displayed FINE MANUAL.

In FINE (Tuning) mode
When you try press the TUNING 5∞ button i, the frequency will be selected by 10 kHz step to ±50 kHz. Then, it will automatically be set to the MANUAL mode in 4 second.

Checking the daily timer
* If you want to check the daily timer, press the TIMER
SET button !3 at first. The ON time setting will be displayed in the clock indicator. And, press the TIMER SET button !3 again. The OFF time setting will be
displayed. Finally press TIMER SET button !3 once again. It returns to the normal display.

Canceling the daily timer
* While setting the daily timer, if the cancel button is
held depressed, the timer function will be canceled.

RDS (RADIO DATA SYSTEM)
1. What is RDS?
RDS provides such indication as station names, local times, and the types of program, the radio text ,etc. as well as FM broadcasting.
2. You can receive the following kinds of data with this
RDS.
* PS (Program Service Name): displays FM station
names.
* CT (Clock Time): displays the information about times
provided from the station.
* PTY (Program Type): Program type will be displayed
while receiving FM broadcasting.
* RT (Radio Text): displays the news of stations
composed of up to 64 symbols. * TP (Traffic Program) * TA (Traffic Announcement)

OPERATIONS
RDS DISPLAY
1. Select the FM band. RDS can be received only in FM.
2. Select the RDS broadcasting by using the TUNING 5∞
button i. Then, RDS will light up in the upper side of the FTD
display. And the related data, if received, will be displayed in the type of received data (PTY, RT, TP, TA)
3. RDS
1) The default of the RDS mode is PS.
2) Press the RDS button !6. Each time you press the button briefly (1.5 second or
less), the modes will change as follows
PS →PTY →RT →TA →CT →PS
3) PS mode
– When you select the PS with the RDS button !6, PS
will blink for about 4 seconds.
– After 4 seconds, PS or a station name entered by
manual file will be displayed.
4) PTY mode
– When you select the PTY with the RDS button !6,
PTY will blink for about 4 seconds, the type of received PTY will be displayed.
– If there is no PTY data among received broadcasting,
RDS mode will be switched to PS mode automatically.
5) RT mode
– When you select the RT with the RDS button !6, RT
will blink for about 4 seconds, After 4 seconds, the data received broadcasting, the RDS mode will be automatically switched to the PS mode.
6) TA mode (TP search function)
– When you select the TA with the RDS button !6, TA
will blink for about 4 seconds, TP received broadcasting will be searched with the FM frequency increasing in 50 kHz steps.
– If TP received broadcasting is searched, the increase
in frequency will be stop and it is asked whether TA will be received or not.
– If TP and TA turn off while you are receiving the TA,
the tuner will search the TA broadcasting again with the FM frequency increasing in 50 kHz steps.
7) CT mode
– When you select the CT with the RDS button !6, CT
will blink for about 4 seconds. After 4 seconds, the clock time together with the frequency will be displayed. CT can be received regardless of whichever RDS mode. The tuner is set to.
* Not to use CT mode,
1. Press and hold the RDS button !6 for longer than 8
seconds, and press briefly the RDS button !6 within 0.5 seconds.
– The indicator will be changed as follows:
PS →PTY →RT →TA →(NO CT) →PS
– In this mode, although CT data are entered, the
time is not changed to the current time.
2. In NO CT mode, press and hold the RDS button !6 for
longer than 8 seconds.
– The indicator will be changed as follows:
PS →PTY →RT →TA →CT
3. PTY Search
1) Press the RDS button !6 for longer then 1.5 second. Then SEARCH will be shown in the display.
2) Select the desired PTY mode by using the PRESET 5∞ button !4.

– If you press the NEXT button !0, the PTY mode wills
blink in the clock display.
– Searching will start when you push the TUNING 5∞
button i.
– When the PTY mode that you have selected is
searched, searching will stop and the PTY mode will be displayed.
– If there is no program in the PTY mode, you have
selected, searching will stop at the frequency started.

WHEN TO USE RESET SWITCH
When this system is subjected to an electrical shock.

In the above cases, function buttons may not often operate or the display may operate wrongly. In these cases, try the following:

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT EXTERNAL SURFACES
The exterior finish of your ST6001 will last indefinitely with proper care and cleaning. Never use scouring pads, steel wool, scouring powders or harsh chemical agents (e.g., lye solution), alcohol, thinners, benzine, insecticide or other volatile substances as these will mar the finish of the equipment. Likewise, never use cloths containing chemical substances. If the equipment gets dirty, wipe the external surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth.

REPAIRS
Only the most competent and qualified service technicians should be allowed to service your unit. Marantz and its factory trained warranty station personnel have the knowledge and special equipment needed for the repair and calibration of this precision instrument.
In the event of difficulty, call the proper toll-free telephone number listed on the face of the warranty to obtain the name and address of the Marantz Authorized Service Center nearest you. In many cases, the dealer where you purchased your Marantz unit may be equipped to provide service. Please include the model, serial number of your unit together with a copy of your purchase receipt and a full description of what you feel is abnormal in its behaviour.
Memory backup
In case a power outage occurs or the power cord is accidentally unplugged, the ST6001 is equipped with a backup function to prevent memory data such as the preset memory from being erased. The memory funcitons are backed up for up to about one week.
