
How to download the free Topo map for
Triton® series of outdoor GPS
Magellan is currently running the “Triton 2009 Map promotion”, offering customers who purchase
and register a 400-2000 Triton GPS receiver a free Topo USA map or Topo Canada region., This
offer is good from May 15-June 30, 2009.
1. Click on the “Register your Triton and get a free map” and you will be prompted to
either create a new
profile if you are a new user or login to anyour account.

2. Once you have logged in or created an account and registered your new Triton device, you
will see the page below with information about your registered Triton device and details on
the free maps available for download.

3. Once you select a map for your Triton device, you will see the page below indicating the m ap
and GPS you are going to use. Select “Confirm”.
( NOTE: only one free map can be downloaded for a single Triton device)
4. After selecting “Confirm”, you will receive the message below indicating that you have been
sent an e-mail containing a link to download your selected free map.

5. Open the e-mail account you registered on MagellanGPS.com and look for an e-mail that says
“Magellan Download” and open it.
6. The E-mail will contain the link to get your map download file. Click onthe link or copy and
paste it into your web browser. NOTE: link has a 2 day expiration, but you can go
back and resend yourself an email from your Magellan account profile.

7. Once you have selected and clicked onto the link you will see this download window below.
Select “Save” and save it to your desktop. NOTE: You must select “Save” because the
file will not run from its server location.
8. Once the file is saved to your desktop you will see an “M” icon
. Click on it and
the window below will appear. Select “Download Map”, and the “Map directory” info will
also be in this window indicating the location of where the maps being saved
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\950-0124-001.zip
NOTE: User name is the computer login name of your PC. Our example below has
fberdin as the user of the PC.
Download time: The download time can vary depending on connection speed, but the
PC used in our example took about 2.5 hours

9. Once the 1.5GB files have been downloaded, the window below appears. You then select
“Authorize Map” (this takes a few minutes).
10. Once the authorization is complete the window below should automatically appear containing
your map. If not, then go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Documents\My GPS

11. Open the VantagePoint™ application (if not already installed on your PC, download and
install from our website under products/maps and software). Connect your GPS to your PC
and set it to “Connect to PC” mode under menu/view/settings/ then drag and drop the
individual .imi map files from the “My GPS” folder onto the VantagePoint map.

12. Once the map transfer to the VantagePoint software is complete, you will be able to transfer
map information for your Triton device by selecting

transfer arrow (NOTE: Map transfers can take up to several hours).
