Appendix D: Window s Help
Almost all netw orking produ cts require Microsoft Window s. Window s is the most used operating system in the world and com es with many features t hat hel p make networking easier. These features c an be acc essed through Window s Help and are desc ribed in t his appendix.
TCP/IP
Before a computer can comm unicat e wit hin a netw ork, TCP/IP must be enabled. TCP/IP is a set of instruct ions, or protocol, al l PCs follow to com munic ate over a network . This is true for w ireless net work s as well. Your PCs w ill not be able t o ut ilize w ireless net work ing w ithout having TCP/IP enabled. Windows Help provi des complete instructions on enabling TCP/IP.
Shared Resources
If you w ish to share print ers, folder, or files over your network, Windows Help provides com plete i nst ructi ons on uti lizing shared resour ces.
Netw ork Neighborhood/My Netw ork Places
Other PCs on your netw ork w ill appear under Net work Neighbor hood or M y Network Places (depen ding upon t he version of Window s you're running). Windows Help provides com plete i nstruc tions on adding PCs to your network.
