BK toner smudge on the print-out
Creation Date: 21/04/2011
Phenomenon Depending on the operating environment (*) the cohesive materials of the deteriorated toner
and the additives may disengage from the toner. These particles may accumulate at the top side of the BK developer magnet cover and may interrupt the air ow of the developer
cooling fan. Under this condition the deteriorated toner may adhere to the magnet/sleeve roller. In this case the BK toner smudge may appear on the print-out.
Notes (*) It is more likely that the BK toner smudge may appear in case the temperature on the inside of
the machine increases, when the machine operates for a long time or when printing low
coverage print-outs continuously in monochrome mode.
Solution Therefore the below mentioned changes have been made.
Content of changes
Item Contents
1 Preventing toner accumulation on the
magnet cover.
2 Preventing toner scatter in the developer
unit.
3 Preventing toner scattter on the outside
of the developer unit.
4 Recognizing the latest type of the BK
developer unit.
5 The reverse drive rotation has been
added.
The magnet cover has been changed in shape to collect the additives and the deteriorated toner.
1. The magnet has been added to attract the toner.
2. The metal plate has been added.
3. The internal pressure at the front/rear side edge of the Developer unit has been reduced.
1. The sponge has been added to the Developer unit on the side facing the Drum unit.
2. The sponge(L), sponge (S), seal and the leaet containing the
afxing procedure of the sponges have been bundled.
1. The upper/lower edges of the barcode label have been changed
to green to recognize the latest BK developer unit.
2. The name of the latest BK developer unit has been added to the packing material to recognize the latest BK developer unit.
The reverse rotation has been added to loosen the particles
(Vibration) when they accumulate on the metal plate.
1. Firmware upgrade:
The function has been added to reverse the drive of the developer
unit for 0.5 seconds. Initial setting: Reverse rotation is executed every
2 minutes (BK developer drive time). The “Interval Time” has been added to maintenance mode U147.
(Setting value: 0~3, initial value: 2)
We recomend not to set the interval to “0“.
2. The developer drive gear has been changed.

Entire stock rework
1. Upgrade the rmware to the latest version. (Firmware pack 5).
2. Please replace the BK developer unit with the latest type.
3. Afx the 2 sponges and the seal to the Drum unit. The sponges and the seal have been bundled with the latest BK developer unit.
Notes: Please order the seal kit (Parts seal front drum set sp) for the TASKalfa552ci and afx the sponges and the seal to the Drum unit, when the latest type of the BK developer unit is installed in the machine. Align the 2 sponges and the seal according to the bundled leaet.

Cohesive materials of the additives and the deteriorated toner
Under normal conditions the air ow from the developer cooling fan will remove the additives and the deteriorated toner, which accumulate on the magnet cover by passing through the cut-out of the magnet cover. The remaining
particles may be condensed, depending on the operating condition. In this case these particles may obstruct the air ow from the developer cooling fan above the magnet cover. Under this condition the BK toner smudge may ap- pear on the print-out.
New condition of the BK developer unit: Toner smudge prevention.
