Unpack the printer and all its included components.
Important: The printer must be carried by two persons.
Environment
• Temperature: 10 to 32.5 °C (50 to 90.5 °F) The humidity should be 70 % or less when the
temperature is 32.5 °C (90.5 °F)
• Humidity: 15 to 80 %RH The temperature should be 30 °C (86 °F) or less when the humidity
is 80 %
• Power Supply: 120 V AC, 60 Hz, 9.2 A / 220 to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 4.7 A
CAUTION: Be sure to provide enough space around printer. Prolonged use
without sufficient clearance may cause overheating.

Installing the Toner Container and Waste Toner Box

Open the top cover until it stops. Before installing the toner container, open the slide lever (yellow-colored) on the
developer unit. The toner container cannot be installed until the slide lever is open.
Proceed as follows:
To open the slide lever, squeeze and hold the lever (1), and slide the lever all the way
toward the direction of the arrow indicated (2) on the lever. When the slide lever is
open, install the toner container.

Hold the toner container with the
upside down markings (caution notes,
etc.) facing downward and shake it 5 or
6 times as shown.
Place the new toner container in the
printer with the markings facing
upward.
Open the left cover.
Note: Ensure the toner container is in the
correct location for that color.

Open the cap of the waste toner box.

Push down on the container until it
clicks firmly into place.
Follow the procedure above to install
the other color toner containers.

Position the bottom of the waste toner
box in the receptacle and push the box
down until it snaps firmly into place.
Close the top cover.

Close the left cover.

Pull the paper cassette all the way out
of the printer.

Fan the paper, then tap it on a level
surface to avoid media jams or skewed
printing.

Turn the paper size dial so that the size
of the paper to use appears in the
paper size window.

Load paper in the cassette, with the
side to be printed upward.

Adjust the paper width guides to fit the
paper size.

Important: Do not exceed the upper limit
of the cassette. Otherwise, it may cause
paper jams.

Adjust the paper length guide to fit the
paper size.

Insert the paper cassette into the slot in
the printer. Push it straight in as far as
it will go.

Turn the power switch off (O). Connect the printer to the PC or your
network device. Use shielded interface
cables. These cables are sold
separately.
Limit Mark
Connect the power cord to the printer
and the other end into a power outlet.

Press the lever to release the lock
and pull out the front cover.
Remove the cap, when using the
network interface.

The printer is set to Envelope Mode
(Right side) with shipment. Set the
Envelope Switch to Normal (Left side)
before printing on normal paper.

Selecting the Message Language

Turn the power switch on (|).
Important: The printer will begin
cleaning the LSU; this will take
approximately 70 seconds.

Wait until the message display
indicates MSG Language. The default
message language is English.

To change the language, press [U] or
[V] repeatedly until the message
display shows the desired language.

Press [OK]. The message language
will be changed.

Close the front cover.
Refer to the Operation Guide to install the printer driver and to set network parameters.
