2011 NINJA ZX-10R ABS
The all-new Ninja ZX-10R ABS takes the production supersport machine to a whole new level. Bred for the track, it combines all of the qualities to provide the highest circuit performance with sophisticated technologies like supersport-grade ABS, race-type traction control and three-position power mode to allow a greater number of riders to enjoy the thrill of riding a high-performance superbike at or near the limit on the track.
Sport-Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC)
• Designed to help maximise acceleration on the track by allowing power slides and power lifts as long as effective traction is maintained.
• Using complex analysis, the system can predict when traction conditions are about to become unfavourable and act before wheel slippage exceeds the range for optimal traction. By making small changes quicker, power spikes are minimised for ultra-smooth operation and quicker lap times.
• Riders can choose from three modes, plus OFF, to control S-KTRC feeling for specic conditions and riding preferences.
Power Mode
• Allows riders to choose from three power options: Full power operation Mid power – Variable operation depending on throttle position Low power – limited to approximately 50-60% of full power
• Works independently from S-KTRC.
Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System
(KIBS)
High-precision system with smooth feedback for added braking condence during hard sport riding or emergencies.
Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS) continued;
• A motorcycle rst, the engine ECU communicates with the ABS ECU (which monitors wheel speed and front calliper hydraulic pressure) to provide highly precise brake pressure control. The high-precision control means brake performance is not reduced due to excessive pressure drops and there is a more consistent lever feel instead of sharp lever pulses with conventional ABS systems.
• Back torque limiting clutch system suppresses ABS function during downshifts for improved rear brake control.
Completely New Engine
• Larger intake valves (30 mm >> 31 mm) and wider intake ports (polished, as on the 2010 ZX-10R) are complemented by
24.5 mm exhaust valves and completely revised exhaust ports. The new arrangement contributes to more efcient breathing, reduced engine braking effect, more linear power delivery and increased control on throttle opening.
• Cam proles designed for high-rpm operation. With higher lift, they help deliver more top-end power and aid race tuning.
• Lightweight titanium intake and exhaust valves reduce reciprocating weight.
• Larger-diameter intake tappets (26.5 mm >> 29 mm) are used to suit the high-lift cams.
• New lightweight pistons features shorter skirts (20 mm >> 16.5 mm). Using thinner oil rings (1.5 mm >> 1.2 mm) accommodates the deeper recesses necessary to suit the higher-lift cams.
• Camshafts are carved from forged chromoly steel billets, which are more than 680 grams lighter than cast cams. The cams and tappets are treated with soft nitriding to prevent galling and seizing with the aggressive, high lift proles.
• Single valve springs with oval cross sections are light and lower to reduce overall cylinder head height.
• Forged, sintered aluminium spring retainers are half the weight of steel retainers and allow higher rpm. Connecting rods features stronger rods and big ends to suit the increased power output.
• Crankshaft made from harder material features stronger pins and journal llets. Durability of the gear teeth was also increased.
• New ignition stick coils have greater secondary coil current. The improved combustion efciency results in improved performance and driveability.
• A single-shaft secondary balancer helps reduce engine vibration. Its use allows a number of vibration-damping parts to be simplied, contributing to weight savings. (In particular, handlebar weights could reduced, improving steering response.)
Ram Air Intake
• New ram air duct positioned closer to front of the bike for increased air box lling efciency.
• Larger-area air cleaner and the larger airbox with higher ceiling allows air to enter the new intake funnels from above for more efcient breathing.
