Configuring the T2425 and the RF Network
The T2425 can communicate with a host computer in Intermec’s 2.4 GHz RF network
either through the access points and the DCS 300 or directly through the access points.
The terminal ship s with one of thes e RF network protocol opti ons:
•UDP Plus
•TCP/IP
In a UDP Plus network, the terminal communicates through the DCS 300 to a host on an
Ether net, token ring, t winaxial, coaxial, or SDLC network. In a TC P/IP network, the
termina l communicates through the acces s point directly to a host on an Ethernet or token
ring network.

real - time clock while you change the main battery pack.
Main Battery Pack
The main power source for the terminal is a lithium-ion battery pack. Follow these tips to
get the best battery performance and life possible:
•You should always keep a charged main ba ttery p ack inst alled in the termina l to
maximize the backup battery’s life.
•When you remove a b att ery pac k, inser t another charged battery pack in t he t erminal
so you can continu e to operate the terminal withou t interruption.
Nugget
•If you use the terminal for extended peri ods of time in a s ub-freezing environment,
you may need to c hange the battery pac k more often.
•If you have been using the terminal in a cold temper ature environment a nd need to
replace or charge the battery pack, let the battery packs warm up for a half hour
befor e you c harge t hem.
•Store the b att ery chargers and spare b att ery packs in a warm (office) environment to
ensure the most effi cient o perati o n .

Charging the Main Battery Pack
You ca n recharge the main b att ery pac k using a ny of these TRAKKER Anta res
accessories:
•Battery charger
•Communications dock c onnected to an ex ternal power supply
•Opt ic al link adapter c onnec ted to an external power supply
The fastest way to charge the battery pack is to use the battery charger. The charger uses
a charging method that max imizes battery life. For help about char ging battery packs, see
the accessor y quick reference guides.
After you install a charged battery pack in the terminal, you can use the Battery Status
diagnostic in the TRAKK ER Antares 2400 Menu System to check the charge status of
the ba tteri es . For help, see C hapter 7, “Ru nning D i agnostic s.”

Backup Battery
The backup battery is a NiCad battery that is designed to back up all memory and the
real - time clock while you remove a dis c harged main battery pack and insert a charged
battery p ack. You c an remove and r ep lace the backup b attery if it will no longer hold a
charge, or if the battery is dead.
The main battery pack charges the backup battery when required with the terminal turned
on or off . You should keep a charged main batt ery pac k installed in the terminal to
maximize the backup battery’s life.
If you t urn off the terminal and do not us e it, the backup b att ery will provide backup
battery power for:
•A ma ximum of 1 month if a f ully-charged main ba ttery p ack is ins talled.
•A maximum of 3 days if a main ba ttery p ack is not installed.
The backup battery power depends on how much power is left in the main battery pack
and the backup battery when you turn off the terminal. If the backup battery is still
providing backup power when you tur n the termina l back on, the terminal r es umes
exactly where it was when you t urned it off, or restart s your applic ation.
Code 39

If you p l an to store the t erminal for a long per iod of time, inser t a fu lly c harged main
battery pack to maximize battery life. Store the terminal in a warm (office) area to make
sure the backup battery continues to charge.
Note: If the Resume Execution command is al lo wed, the termi nal will resume the
application when you turn on the terminal. Otherwise, the terminal boots and the
application restarts. For help, s ee “ Res ume Executi on” i n C hapt er 9.
Charging the Backup Battery
The main battery pack charges the backup battery when required with the terminal turned
on or off . The terminal continuously monitors the backup battery voltage level and
charges the backup bat tery for a fix ed du ration of time whenever the volt age level gets
low. If t he main battery pa c k is low or discharged, it will not be able to charge the
backup battery.
There are two ways to find out if the backup battery charge is low:
•The Ba ttery icon is blinking on the top line of the screen.
•Check the sta tus of the backup battery using t he Battery Status diagnostic tes t. F or
help, s ee C hapter 7, “Running Diagnostics.”
Note: The backup battery charger operates between 32°F and 104°F (0°C and 40°C). If
you are using the terminal in an environment that is outside this temperature range, the
backup battery will not charge. Move the terminal to a warmer environment to charge
the backup battery.
