This set employs a laser. Therefore, be sure to follow carefully the instructions below when servicing.
SERVICE WARNING : DO NOT APPROACH THE LASER EXIT WITH THE EYE TOO CLOSELY. IN CASE IT IS NECESSARY TO CONFIRM LASER BEAM EMISSION, BE SURE TO OBSERVE FROM A DISTANCE OF MORE THAN 30cm FROM THE SURFACE OF THE OBJECTIVE LENS ON THE OPTICAL PICKUP BLOCK.

1. Replacing the fuses
This symbol located near the fuse indicates that the fuse used is show operating type, For continued protection against fire hazard, replace with same type fuse , For fuse rating, refer to the marking adjest to the symbol.

2. Safety-check out
(Only U.S.A. model) After correcting the original service problem perform the following safety check before releasing the set to the customer Connect the insulating-resistance tester between the plug of power supply cord and terminal GND on the back panel. Specifications: More than 10M ohm at 500V
INITIALIZING
Factory-shipped condition. Push button "ON" (Mechanical SW) Press the [STOP] and [STANDBY] same time with NO DISC condition. Push button "STANDBY".
REMOVE THE SOLDER OF LASER DIODE SHORT
When replace the mechanism or DVD main PC board. Shorting the solder of Shot-circuit land. (2 positions)

Power switch
This is the main power switch. When set to Off, the DPS-5.5 is completely shutdown. When set to On, the DPS-5.5 can be set to On or Standby. Don't turn on the power until you've completed, and double checked all connections.

Standby/On button
This button is used to set the DPS-5.5 to On or Standby. For models with a Power switch, this but­ton has no effect unless the Power switch is set to On.

Standby indicator
This indicator lights up when the DPS-5.5 is in Standby.

Display button
This button is used to display information about the current disc, title, chapter, or track, including the elapsed time, remaining time, total time, and so on.

Play Mode button
This button is used to open and close the Play Mode menu.

Remote control sensor
This sensor receives control signals from the remote controller.

Disc tray
Discs are loaded here.

Top Menu button
This button is used to display the top menu of a DVD-Video disc.

Cursor ///
The four cursor buttons located around the central [Enter] button are used to navigate DVD-Video menus and the onscreen setup menus. The central [Enter] button is used to start playback of the selected title, chapter, or track and to confirm settings.

This indicator appears while title numbers are being displayed. While stopped, the total number of titles on the current DVD-Video disc is displayed here. During playback, the number of the current title is displayed.

This indicator appears while track numbers are being displayed. While stopped, the total number of tracks on the current Video CD, audio CD, or MP3/ WMA disc are displayed. During playback, the number of the current track is displayed.

This indicator appears while the number of the cur­rent chapter is being displayed.

IR IN/OUT
The IR IN connector can be used to connect a com­mercially available IR receiver, which can be used to pickup signals from the remote controller when the DPS-5.5 is located in another room, installed in a rack, or is out of range of the remote controller The IR OUT connector can be used to connect a commercially available IR emitter, which can be used to pass remote controller signals received by the IR IN along to other AV components.

OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT
This optical digital audio output can be connected to

an optical digital audio input on a hi-fi amp, AV receiver, or surround sound decoder (Dolby Digital, DTS).

COAXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT
This coaxial digital audio output can be connected to a coaxial digital audio input on a hi-fi amp, AV receiver, or surround sound decoder (Dolby Digital, DTS).

These (Remote Interactive) connectors can be
connected to the connectors on your other Inte­gra AV components for interactive control. For remote control operation, you must make an analog RCA/phono connection between your DPS-
5.5 and the other AV component, even if they are connected digitally.

ANALOG AUDIO OUTPUT
These RCA/phono connectors can be con­nected to the analog audio inputs on your TV, hi-fi amp, AV receiver.

RS 232
This RS-232 port can be connected to an external controller.

COMPONENT 2 VIDEO OUTPUT
These BNC connectors can be used to connect a TV or projector with BNC component video

Setting the test mode. Press "RETURN" and "SETUP/TV/VCR" key of remote controller RC-484M.

Confirm the Regional code and Firmware version.
1. Connect the TV monitor to the DPS-5.5.
2.Turn ON the power switch and standby switch ON. (No Disc)
3. Press the "SETUP" key on the front panel. Appear a HOME MENU. (Photo-1)
4. Select "Initial Settings" menu and press "ENTER".
5. Select "Options" menu, and press the "DISPLAY" button.
6. Appear regional code and firmware ROM number. Confirm the regional cord and firmware version. When close the menu, press "RETURN" button of the unit.

It is necessory to enter individual ID number and

ID data to each player when you repair it.
When previous ID number and ID data, such as a factory present ID number and ID data, are maintained, the unit enters ID Number Confirmation Mode when the above keys are pressed. However, if only an ID number is maintained, the unit enters ID Data Input Mode.
A : ID number Input Mode
[ Remote controller RC-484M]
1. Press "DVD" and "1" at the same time.
2. Press "RETURN" key and "STEREO" key.
3. Enter a 9-digit ID number and ID number is also displayed on the FL display.
4. After entering all 9 digits, when you press the "PLAY" key the unit enters Compare mode.
Note: When you press the PLAY key before inputting a
9- digit ID number, the unit returns to Step 2.
5. After entering all 9 digits, when you press the "SEARCH"

key, the unit unconditionally sets the input number as the ID number. Then the unit automatically enters Player's Data input Mode.
6. This display appears when the "PLAY" key is pressed in step 4. Enter a 9- digit number to compare.
7. After entering all 9 digits, you press the "PLAY" key.
