Overview

The Light Tower Alarm Kit is designed to work in conjunction with the Con TROLL PRO System to provide visual and audible indication of the state of the Con TROLL PRO relay outputs from a distance.
The light tower is controlled via one or both of the Con TROLL PRO low-voltage relays.
Proper operation of the light tower requires correct wiring per one of the application diagrams in this document as well as relay output programming to match the configuration.
It is possible to damage the Con TROLL PRO if the light tower is wired incorrectly. Make sure that you read this document, the Con TROLL PRO Installation Manual, and the Con TROLL PRO Operator's Manual before installing this product.

Safety Information

Please read this manual and the Con TROLL PRO Installation Manual before unpacking or installing any part of this kit.
WARNING: This is a low-voltage product and is only to be wired to the Con TROLL PRO low-voltage relay terminals. This product must not be
wired to the high-voltage terminals in the Con TROLL PRO.
WARNING: Never use this product as a sensing device for personnel
protection. Doing so could lead to serious injury or death. This product does NOT include the self-checking redundant circuitry necessary to allow its use in personnel safety applications. A sensor failure or malfunction can cause either an energized or de-energized relay output condition.
DANGER: Make sure that power to the Con TROLL PRO is disconnected before making any wiring connections.
DANGER: There is reference in this document to using the Light Tower
functions in conjunction with high-voltage control functions. Only properly trained and qualified personnel should wire the high-voltage control functions while observing the precautions in the Con TROLL PRO Installation Manual.

Compatibility and Reference Manuals

The light tower is compatible with all versions of the Con TROLL PRO: AC, AC-L, and DC-L.
For Con TROLL PRO units purchased before May 2012, refer to the installation manual (document number 0087612) and the operator's manual (document number 0087602).
For Con TROLL PRO units purchased after May 2012, refer to the installation manual (document number 0085660) and the operator's manual (document number 0085670).
Manuals are available on the In-Situ website www.in-situ.com/Manuals.

Light Tower Cable Wiring Overview

The light tower is not polarity sensitive and can be wired one of two ways:
1. The common wire connected to POWER and the other wires switched by relay to GND.
2. The common wire connected to GND and the other wires switched by relay to POWER.
All of the examples provided in this document use the first method. If you want to install additional accessories with the light tower, the second method might be used. Consult a qualified technician for additional configurations.

Installation Procedure

Refer to the Con TROLL PRO Installation Manual as needed.
1. Install the light tower using the supplied bracket, making sure the cable reaches the Con TROLL PRO without strain.
2. Disconnect power from the Con TROLL PRO.
3. Loosen the four screws on the front panel and open the front panel.
4. If necessary, remove a wiring port plug on the Con TROLL PRO and replace it with a dome connector.
5. Insert the light tower cable and pull it inside the enclosure far enough for the wires to reach the terminal block without strain.
6. Tighten the dome connector to seal the enclosure and to provide strain relief for the cable.
7. Wire the light tower cable according to the appropriate diagram for the intended application. See pages 4 through 7.
8. Trim the exposed ends of any unused light tower wires.
9. Secure unused light tower wires to the light tower cable with zip ties.

10. Close the front panel and tighten the four front panel screws.
11. Apply power to the Con TROLL PRO.
12. Program the relay outputs to match the selected configuration.

Configuring a Single-Parameter Light Alarm

In this scenario, the Con TROLL PRO monitors a tank using an RDO®PRO Probe. The Con TROLL PRO turns on an aerator when the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration falls below 4 mg/L. The light tower shows green when the DO is above 4 mg/L (aerator off), and yellow when the DO is below 4 mg/L (aerator on).
The RDO PRO Probe is wired as Probe A. Relay 1 is used to implement the control and display function.

Programming Sequence

On the Con TROLL PRO, select Menu, Settings, Outputs, Relays, Relay 1.
Enable the relay.
Mode = Low Alarm
Parameter = A-Concentration
Setpoint = 4 mg/L
Deadband = 0.2 mg/L (This value is recommended to prevent relay chatter.)
Adjust the Setpoint and Deadband to optimize aerator performance and minimize aerator cycling.

Configuring a Single-Parameter Light and Audible Alarm

In this scenario, the Con TROLL PRO monitors a tank using an RDO PRO Probe or RDO PRO-X Probe. The Con TROLL PRO turns on an aerator when the DO concentration falls below 4 mg/L.
The light tower shows green when the DO is above 4 mg/L (aerator off), yellow when the DO is below 4 mg/L but above 3 mg/L (aerator on), or red when the DO is below 3 mg/L (aerator on). As an option, the audible alarm can turn on when the red light turns on.
The RDO PRO Probe is wired as Probe A. Relay 1 is used to implement the control function, Relay 2 is used to implement the alarm function.
You can add an external switch in the gray wire that will allow you to turn off the audible alarm when you service the system.

Programming Sequence (Relay 1)

On the Con TROLL PRO, select Menu, Settings, Outputs, Relays, Relay 1.
l Enable the relay.
l Mode = Low Alarm
l Parameter = A-Concentration
l Setpoint = 4 mg/L
l Deadband = 0.2 mg/L (This value is recommended to prevent relay chatter.)
Adjust the Setpoint and Deadband for Relay 1 to optimize aerator performance and minimize aerator cycling.

Programming Sequence (Relay 2)

On the Con TROLL PRO, select Menu, Settings, Outputs, Relays, Relay 2.
l Enable the relay.
l Mode = Low Alarm
l Parameter = A-Concentration
l Setpoint = 3 mg/L
l Deadband = 0.2 mg/L (This value is recommended to prevent relay chatter.)

Configuring a Dual-Parameter Light Alarm

In this scenario, the Con TROLL PRO monitors two independent tanks, each with an RDO PRO Probe or RDO PRO-X Probe.
Probe A is placed in Tank A. The Con TROLL PRO turns on aerator A and the yellow light when the DO falls below 4 mg/L.
Probe B is placed in Tank B. The Con TROLL PRO turns on aerator B and the red light when the DO falls below 5 mg/L.
Relay 1 is used to implement the Tank A control function, Relay 2 is used to implement the Tank B control function.
