GENERAL INFORMATION
Introduction

This manual provides safe and reliable instruc tions for the installation, operation and mai ntenance of your Ingersoll Rand air compre ssor. Carefully read this manu al before at tempting to operate or pe rform any mai ntenance. If you are uncertain about any of the instructions or procedures p rovided in this manual, contact Ingersoll Rand. We recommend you re tain this manual, and all publ ication s provided with you r air compressor, in a location which is accessible to all personnel who operate and service your compre ssed air equipment.
Application
n
Your air co mpressor unit is suitable for operat ing air tools, caulki ng guns, gre ase guns, sandblasters, e tc. Depending on your application, the fol lowing accessories may be required:
l An air pressure re gulator to adjust the air pressure en tering the tool or
accessor y.
l An air line filter for removal of moisture and oil vapor in compres sed air.
l
An i n-line lub ricator to prolong the life of air tools.
l
Separate air transfo rmers which combine the functions of air reg ulation and/ or mois ture and dirt removal.
Contact you r nearest authorized dealer or call 1-800-AIR-SER V for more information on air tools and accesso ries for you r application.

RECEIPT & INSPECTION
Ensu re adequate lifting equipment is available fo r unloa ding and moving the compressor to the installation site.
Lif ting eq uipment must be properly ra ted for the weight of the

comp ressor. Wei ght inf ormatio n is pr inted o n a lab el atta ched to the ship ping contai ner.

Do n ot use the mo tor lif ting eye to lif t the entire c ompress or. The mo tor

lif ting eye is for re moving the mot or from the compres sor only.
Do n ot work on or wal k under th e compressor while it i s suspended.
l
Use suitable liftin g equip ment (i .e. fork lift) to lif t and transport the com pressor to the ins tallati on site. Ensure the lifting equipment, straps, etc. are ca pable o f support ing the weight of th e compressor.
Before si gning the delivery receipt, inspec t for damage and missing parts. If dama ge or m issing par ts are apparent, make the appropriate notation on the deli very receip t, then si gn the rece ipt. Immediatel y contact the carrier for an insp ection.
All material must be held in the receiving location for the carrier’s inspection.
Deli very receip ts that have been sign ed with out a n otation of da mage or mi ssing parts are considered to be de livered “clea r.” Subsequent claims are then considered to be con cealed damage claims. Settle damage cl aims direct ly with the transportation company.
If you dis cover damage after receiving the compres sor (concealed damage), the carr ier mus t be notified within 15 days of receipt and an in spection must be requested by tel ephone wit h confirmation in writing. On con cealed damage clai ms, the burden of establishing that the compres sor was da maged i n transit reverts back to th e claim ant.
Read th e compressor nameplate to verify it is the model ordered, an d read the motor nameplate to veri fy it i s compatible with your electri cal conditions.
Make sure el ectrical enclosures and com ponents are ap propriate for the inst allatio n enviro nment.

Selecting A Location
n
General
n
Select a c lean, dry, well -lighted indoor area with plenty of spa ce for p roper cooling air flow and access ibility. Locate t he unit at le ast 12 inc hes (30 cm ) from wall s, and make sure the main powe r suppl y is cl early i dentifi ed and accessible.
Temperature
n
Idea l operating tempera tures are between 32°F and 100°F (0°C and 37.8°C ). If temperatures con sistently drop below 32 °F (0°C ), locate the unit inside a heated buil ding. If this is not possible, you must protec t safety/relief valves and dra in valves from freezing.
Never op erate in tem peratures below 20° F (-6.6 °C) or above 120°F

Humid Areas
n
In freq uently hum id areas, moisture m ay form in the bare pu mp and produce slud ge in t he lubricant, causing running parts to wear out premat urely. Excessive mois ture is especially likely to occur if the unit is located in an unheate d area that is s ubject to large temperature changes. Two signs o f excess ive humidit y are external con densati on on the bare pump when it cools down and a “milky ” appearan ce in petroleum com pressor lubricant. You may be able to prevent mois ture from forming in the bare pump by increasi ng ventilation, operating for long er intervals or installing a crankcase heater kit.
Noise Considerations
n
Consult local officials for information regarding acceptable noise levels in your area. To re duce excessi ve noise, use vibrat ion iso lator pads or intake silencers, relocate the unit or construct total enclosures or baffle walls.
Permanent Mounting
n
3. Drill a hole through the center of each isolation pad (if supplied or mandated by local codes).
4. Drive the anchors into the mounting holes with the threaded portion up.
5. Place the isolation pads over the anchors as shown in the illustration below.
6. Position the compressor over the drilled holes and slowly lower the compressor feet over the holes.
7. Install the foundation bolts.
8. Install the nuts and torque each in a criss-cross pattern to 10 ft. lb.

To mount the compre ssor to a concrete su rface, use the fol lowing procedure:
1. Mark the location of the mounting holes.
2. Drill 2-1/4 h deep holes using a ½” concrete drill bit.
After all mounting nuts are installed, check for receiver st ress by loosening each nut ind ividual ly to check for upward movemen t of th e foot. Upward movement indi cates the requiremen t for an appropriate ly sized metal shim to fi ll in the open el evation un der the foot. After all re quired shims have b een ins erted, re-tighten the nuts to 10 ft. lb.

Do n ot operate the uni t witho ut the air in let fil ter(s).

Fuses

Refer to the National Electric Code to determi ne the proper fuse or ci rcuit breaker rating required. When selecting fuses, remember the momentary starting current of a n electric motor is greater than its full load current. Tim e-delay or “slow-blow” fuse s are recomm ended.

General Requirements
n
The piping, fittings, receiver t ank, etc. m ust be cer tified safe for at least the maxi mum working pre ssure of the unit. Use hard-welded or threaded steel or copp er pipe s and cast iron fittings that are certif ied safe for th e unit’s disc harge pressure and tempera ture. DO NOT USE PVC PLASTIC. Use pipe thre ad seal ant on all threads, and make up joints tightly to pre vent air leaks.

1. Unscrew and remove the oil fill plug (A).
2. Slowly fill the crankcase with lubricant until the lubricant reaches the top thread of the oil fill opening and the top of the sight glass (B). Crankcase capacity is one-half (0.5) liter.
3. Replace the oil fill plug HAND TIGHT ONLY.

4. Move the pressure switch lever to “ON/AUTO”. The unit will start.
5. Allow tank pressure to build. The motor will stop when tank pressure reaches cut-out pressure.

General
Your air co mpressor was designed fo r 100% continuous dut y operation with the use of Ing ersoll Rand synthetic compressor lubricant and 60% continuous duty operation with the use of petroleum lubricant. In oth er words, sy nthetic lu bricant allows the co mpressor to pump continuously without cycling. Petrole um lubr icant l imits the compressor to a m aximum of 36 minutes of pu mping t ime per hou r. The compressor should not cycle more than 10 times per hour.

Initial Start-Up
Follow this proced ure befo re putting the unit into ser vice for the first time:
1. Set the pressure switch lever (A) to “OFF”.

Tensioning Belts

Belt tensioning can be ac hieved by loosening the motor anchor screws, pushing the motor away from th e pump, and retightenin g the motor anchor screws. The motor can be easily moved by p lacing a p rying tool beneath it. A commerci ally available spreader or other belt tensioning device can al so be h elpful sho uld tensioning be necessary.
Follow the procedu res outlined below to correctly set and measure be lt tension.
1. Lay a straight edge across the top outer surface of the belt drive from pulley to sheave.
2. At the center of the span, perpendicular to the belt, apply pressure to the outer surface of the belt with a tension gauge. Force the belt to the deflection indicated in the following table and compare the reading.

Tank Inspection

The life of an air receiver tank is dependent upon several fa ctors including, but not lim ited to, operating cond itions, ambient environ ments, and the level of main tenance. The exact effect of these fac tors on ta nk life is difficult to pred ict; therefore, In gersoll Ra nd recommends that you schedule a certified tank insp ection within the first five yea rs of compressor service. To arrange a tank insp ection, contact the nearest Ingersoll Rand service provider.
If the tank has not been inspected within the first 10 years of compres sor ser vice, the tan k must be tak en out of service until it has pa ssed in spection. Tanks that fail to meet requirements must be rep laced.

RECIBO E INSPECCIÓN
Asegúrese de que existan equipos de carga adecuados para d escargar y trasladar su compresor al sitio de instalación.

Util ice el equipo de izaje adecuado (ta l como un montacargas) para le vantar y transpor tar el compres or al s itio de la in stalaci ón. Asegúrese de que el equipo de izaj e, las cintas, etc. pu edan soportar el peso del compresor.
Antes de firmar el recibo de entrega, asegúrese de que hay a pieza s que f alten o que estén dañadas. Si hay evidencia de daños o de que faltan piezas, haga la anot ación respectiva en el rec ibo de ent rega y luego fírmelo. Comuníquese inme diatame nte con el tra nsport ista para que realice un a inspe cción.
Todo el material se debe manten er en e l lugar de recepción para la inspecc ión del transportista.
Los recibos de entrega fi rmados que no tienen anotación de daños o piezas falt antes se consideran como prueba de un a entrega “sin problemas” Cualquier reclamo posterior se considerará como demanda por daños ocultos. Li quide cual quier d emanda por da ños con la empresa de transporte.
Si d escubre algún daño después de recibir el compres or (dañ o oculto), debe noti ficar a l transportista dentro de un plazo d e 15 dí as desp ués del recibo y soli citar p or teléfono una in spección una confirmación por escrito. En las dema ndas po r daños oc ultos, la resp onsabil idad de es tablecer que el compresor se d añó durante el transporte recae en la persona que hace el reclamo.
Lea la placa de identificación del compres or para verificar que corresp onde al mode lo soli citado y l ea la placa de l motor para ve rificar qu e es compatible con sus condiciones eléctricas.
Asegúrese de que las cajas y componente s eléctricos sean los adecuados.

Aplicación
