Thank you for purchasing a HUMAX set top box. Please read this user manual carefully to be able to safely install, use and maintain the STB at maximum performance. Keep this user manual next to your set top box for future reference.

Safety and Warning

This digital set top box has been manufactured to comply with international safety standards. Please read the following safety precautions carefully.

Safety Instructions and Precautions

1. MAINS SUPPLY

190 - 250V AC 50/60Hz Operate your product only from the type of power supply indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your local power company. Disconnect the STB from the mains before you start any maintenance or installation procedures.

2. OVERLOADING

Do not overload a wall outlet, extension cord or adapter as this may result in electric fire or shock.

3. LIQUIDS

The STB should not be exposed to any liquids such as dripping or splashing. In addition, no objects filled with liquids, such as vase, should be placed on the apparatus.

4. CLEANING

Disconnect the STB from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a light damp cloth (no solvents) to dust the STB.

5. VENTILATION

The slots on top of the STB must be left uncovered to allow proper airflow to the unit. Do not stand the STB on soft furnishings or carpets. Do not stack electronic equipment on top of the STB.

6. ATTACHMENTS

Do not use any unsupported attachments as these may be hazardous or cause damage to the STB.

7. CONNECTION TO THE SATELLITE DISH LNB

Disconnect the STB from the mains before connecting or disconnecting the cable from the satellite dish. Failure to do so can damage the LNB.

8. CONNECTION TO THE TV

Disconnect the STB from the mains before connecting or disconnecting the cable from the satellite dish. Failure to do so can damage the TV.

9. EARTHING

The LNB cable must be buried in the ground. The buried cable of the system must comply with SABS

061.

Safety and Warning

10.LOCATION

Place the STB indoors to avoid exposing it to lightning, rain or sun. Do not place it near a radiator or heat register. Make sure it has more than 10 cm clearance from any appliances susceptible to electromagnetic influences, such as a TV or a VCR. Do not block these openings with any object, and do not place the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. If you place the product on a rack or bookcase, ensure that there is adequate ventilation and that you have followed the manufacturer's instructions for mounting. Do not place the product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table where it can fall. A falling product can cause serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the appliance.

11.LIGHTNING, STORM, or NOT IN USE

Unplug the product from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna during a thunderstorm or when left unattended and unused for long periods of time. This will prevent damage to the unit due to lightning and power-surges.

12.EXTRANEOUS OBJECTS

Do not insert anything through the openings in the unit, where they can touch dangerous voltage points or damage parts.

13.REPLACEMENT of PARTS

When the replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician uses replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or those that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in additional damage to the unit.

Warning

1. Follow these directions in order not to damage the power cord or plug. Do not modify or process the power cord or plug arbitrarily. Do not bend or twist the power cord too much. Make sure to disconnect the power cord with the plug held. Keep heating appliances as far as possible from the power cord in order to prevent the cover vinyl from melting.

2. Follow these directions. Failure to follow one of them may cause electrical shock. Do not open the main body. Do not insert metals or inflammable objects inside the product. Do not touch the power plug with wet hands. Disconnect the power cord in case of lightning.

3. Do not use the product when it is out of order. If you continue to use the product when defective, a serious damage can be caused to it. Make sure to contact your local product distributor if the product is out of order.

4. Please do not insert metal or alien substance into the slots for the modules and smart cards. In doing so can cause damage to the STB and reduce its life span.

Reference

1. Connect DiSEqC 1.0

All our STBs are designed to be DiSEqC 1.0 compatible. This allows multiple antennas to be connected to the STB simultaneously.

If you have two or more fixed antennas or LNBs, you can use a DiSEqC 1.0 switch.

1. Connect the coaxial cable from the first LNB to the LNB 1 or LNB A input connector of the DiSEqC switch.

2. Connect the coaxial cable from the second LNB to the LNB 2 or LNB B input connector of the DiSEqC switch.

3. Do the same for other LNBs.

4. Connect one end of a Coaxial cable to the RF output connector of the DiSEqC switch and the other end to the LNB IN socket on the STB.

2. Connect DiSEqC 1.2

Please refer to Motorised System. The Locking Time might take longer than expected during the initial boot if the motorised system is set

“enable” mode.

3. Connect a Satellite antenna

To the digital set top box, you can connect either a single satellite antenna directly or through converter box several antennas or LNB of multi-feed equipment.

You can connect a further Sat-STB (for example analogue), with the STB of common antenna equipment that has satellite signals.

Connect an antenna cable through converter boxes

1. When you assemble several antenna or a multi-feed equipment that has several LNB (or LNB with several exits), connect each cable from the antenna to a converter box.

2. Connect the output of converter box to “LNB IN”, as in example displayed.

3. When you use a converter box of 0/12V-steerage, connect it to the output “0/12V” additionally. For converter boxes of 22KHz- or DiSEqC-steerage, you can skip this point because the steerage signal occurs through the antenna cable.

4. Loop Through

If you have another analogue or digital STB and you wish to use the same LNB then you can connect it via the loop through. Connect one end of a Coaxial cable to the LNB OUT on the STB and connect the other end to the LNB IN on your second STB.

5. Connect a S/PDIF Fiber-Optic cable

If you are watching a programme with a Dolby Digital soundtrack(see page GB14) you can enjoy the higher quality sound of the Dolby Digital audio by connecting the STB to an external Dolby Digital television or amplifier. Do this by connecting the optical S/PDIF output of the STB to the optical S/PDIF input of the external

Dolby Digital product (television, amplifier,.....).

6. Software Upgrade

HUMAX digital set-top box is a highly sophisticated product - incorporating one of the best software applications.

Whenever a problem is found with this software or, in fact, extra functions or enhanced applications are added, the software in the equipment has to be upgraded.

In order to maintain proper performance of the product, it is essential to have the most up to date software. The latest news and release of software versions may be found at HUMAX website -

http://www.humaxdigital.com.

It is recommended that users register to HCSA(HUMAX Customer Service Area) and periodically check for the availability of software upgrade.

There are three methods to upgrade the software:

a. set-top box to set-top box download(copies the software of the main unit into slave unit); b. pc to set-top box download(downloads the software directly from pc to the model requiring upgrade); c. OTA over-the-air(downloads the software where the manufacturer reserves the right to decide when and

where to release through satellite system).

Over The Air(OTA) is simply another alternative for downloading software versions. However, the manufacturer reserves the right to decide when and where this software upgrade can take place

by "beaming" latest software versions over the air via satellite systems. Note that OTA is only limited to certain geographical regions mainly due to different satellites having different footprints(area where the signal can be received).

SUSS(TM) is an official trademark and logo for HUMAX loader software to perform OTA. The software upgrade via satellite system will only occur under the following circumstances:

(1) the equipment should have appropriate loader software; (2) the manufacturer decides to release software downloading via a designated satellite system; (3) the equipment must be "tuned" properly to the same satellite that the manufacturer uses.

Note : CRCI-5500+ complies with the OTA type of CryptoWorks.

Selects the input source between TV and satellite STB.

2. TV/RADIO

Switches between TV and Radio modes.

3. NUMERICAL BUTTONS

Enter a TV/Radio service number or menu option number.

Displays the main menu.

5. TIME - WHITE

Displays the current time on the screen. Reserves services on the i-plate or EPG.

6. ARROW BUTTONS

Change the service or move the cursor to the up, down, left or right menu option.

7. i (INFORMATION) - RED

Displays the information about the service and programme.

8. SOUNDTRACK - GREEN

Displays the Soundtrack.

9. CH- / CH+

Changes the Service.

10.RECALL

Returns to the previous screen.

11.FREEZE

Freezes the TV screen you are watching. Play the audio continuously.

12.WIDE

Changes the Display Format.

13.STANDBY

Switches between Operation and Standby modes.

14.GUIDE

Displays the Programme Guide.

15.EXIT

Returns to the previous menu and exits the guide screen.

16.OK

Selects a menu or confirms the selected operation. Displays the service list during watching a programme.

17.ZOOM - BLUE

Enlarges the picture. (Reserved for future use)

18.SUBTITLE - YELLOW

Changes the subtitle language.

19.V- / V+

Adjusts the audio volume.

20.MUTE

Pauses the audio temporarily. That is, volumes on/off temporarily.

21.UHF

Displays the UHF menu.

22.? (HELP)

Displays the Help box on the screen.

Select the corresponding colour option shown on the screen.

2. Setup

2.1 Connecting to TV, VCR and Hi-Fi System

There are several ways of connecting the STB to your existing Audio/TV system. We recommend using one of the following set-up for best results:

TV only

1. Connect one end of a 21-pin SCART cable to the TV SCART connector on the STB and the other end to a SCART socket on your TV.

2. Connect one end of a RF lead to the RF OUT connector on the STB and the other end to the RF IN connector on your TV.

3. Connect your TV antenna to the RF IN connector on the STB for receiving terrestrial channels.

4. Connect the coaxial cable from the LNB to the LNB IN socket on the STB.

TV with VCR

1. Connect one end of a 21-pin SCART cable to the TV SCART connector on the STB and the other end to a SCART socket on your TV.

2. Connect one end of a 21-pin SCART cable to the VCR SCART connector on the STB and the other end to a SCART socket on your VCR.

3. Connect one end of a RF lead to the RF OUT connector on the STB and the other end to the RF IN connector on your VCR.

4. Connect one end of a RF lead to the RF OUT connector on your VCR and the other end to the RF IN connector on your TV.

5. Connect your TV antenna to the RF IN connector on the STB for receiving terrestrial channels.

6. Connect the coaxial cable from the LNB to the LNB IN socket on the STB.

With Hi-Fi System

1. Connect an RCA/Cinch stereo cable from the AUDIO L, R sockets on the back of the STB to the LINE, AUX, SPARE OR EXTRA input sockets on your Hi-Fi system.

2.2 TV with VCR and Motorised System (DiSEqC 1.2)

1. Connect one end of a 21-pin SCART cable to the TV SCART connector on the STB and the other end to a SCART socket on your TV.

2. Connect one end of a 21-pin SCART cable to the VCR SCART connector on the STB and the other end to a SCART socket on your VCR.

3. Connect one end of a RF lead to the RF OUT connector on your VCR and the other end to the RF IN connector on your TV.

4. Connect one end of a RF lead to the RF IN connector on your VCR and the other end to the RF OUT connector on the STB.

5. Connect the coaxial cable from the LNB of your motorised system to the LNB IN socket on the STB.

6. Connect your TV antenna to the RF IN connector on the STB for receiving terrestrial channels.

2.3 Powering On

1. Connect the power cord of the STB to a wall outlet.

2. Turn on the power switch, located at the left of the back of the STB. Make sure that the Standby LED indicator is turned on Red.

3. Press the STANDBY button on the Remote Controller or the front of the STB. The Standby LED indicator is turned off.

2.4 Selecting a Language

You can select the language before you use the STB. Select your desired language using the

3.1 Information Box (I-Plate)

Information box is always displayed for a specific period of time whenever you switch services. You can view the i-plate by pressing the i I-plate.

1. Service number and service name

Represents parental level. Displayed only if this programme is reserved. Displayed only when the service is a locked service. Displayed only when subtitle information is available. Displayed only when the service is a scrambled service. Displayed only when there is any teletext information.
