Following are the steps required to perform the de-installation and packing process for the Color LaserJet 4500, 4500N and 4500DN printer.
NOTE: All toner cartridges and the drum cartridge must be removed before shipping the printer.
CAUTION: None of the original orange tape and shipping locks should be reinstalled when repackaging the printer as damage may occur.
CAUTION: The printer weighs approximately 125 lbs. (57 kg) and should be lifted by two people using safe lifting techniques.

1. All consumables should be packaged in separate sealable plastic bags and placed in the
consumable box that comes with the printer or, in equivalent packaging material. The image drum is light sensitive and needs a black/opaque bag for protection.
NOTE: Exposure of the drum to light for more than 30 seconds can damage the drum.
2. The printer must be powered ON and in the READY state to perform the Toner
Cartridge removal procedure.

Toner cartridge removal
1. Make sure the top door is closed and the power
turned on.
Once the READY message is displayed on the front panel, open then close the top door. An alternating message which reads PRESS GO TO PRINT with PRESS SELECT TO CHANGE TONER will appear.
2. Press the SELECT button to enter the toner
cartridge access routine. TONER POSITION CYAN=OK will appear. If no cartridge is in the slot then the message TONER POSITION CYAN=MISSING will be displayed.
3. Open the top door to access the toner cartridge
displayed on the front panel.
4. Lift the flap that covers the toner cartridge.
